Has anyone tried out Dismantling Blow? I see value whenever I look at it, but is adding 1 onto the normal Disenchant worth a potential Divination being tacked on later?
Don't get me wrong, this is a big mana format. But we also have to face facts that those little bits of mana add up over time. So, thoughts/experiences with this card?
Looks like a good card to me in this format. If you have the mana late game you might as well use it and get something extra out of an effect. I think I've seen it in WRU lists as part of the Sunforger package. That way you get the full effect for just 2U.
I like it. Any card that does its intended purpose but has the option of extra value in the late game is a good card in my eyes. Cyclonic Rift and Vandalblast are other great examples. Two cards is not to be underestimated.

This is where the answer lies. It hasn't been a big mana format for me in years and Dismantling Blow hasn't been good in years. The two are related. When I ran this card it did its job just fine and drew me some cards too, but there are more efficient ways to remove problems and that's why we run cards like this. 3 mana is also a sweet spot in most of my decks so it conflicted with a lot of cards.

Ditto. I used to run it a bunch, and it was almost always the wrong play to hold it in the hopes of getting the card draw as well. I don't think I even consider it for decks anymore.

I did forget to touch on this part. I don't think that EDH is a bigmana format anymore. In lesser experienced metas, it's a good option, but once your meta gets more fine tuned like mine has over the years, your AVG CMC shifts from 4-5 down to 2-3 really fast. My Wrexial deck has proven this if you sift through the changelog. On occasion, there are some cards that are worth going up in CMC for. Examples would be Rack and Ruin going up to Into the Core, since sometimes the exile matters, or Heroes Downfall over Go for the Throat.
So again, I don't think it's a bad card by any standard, but it really only shines in draw-go control, where you're gonna have extra mana up anyways.
Yeah, this is what I was thinking. My group is getting to have really tuned decks, so I thought it would be clunky. I have to get the most out of everything I can in my decks.
I'm still thinking of try it, though. The cards seem so sweet, but by the time I can cast it I honestly don't think I'd want to be wasting my turn on blowing something up.

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.

I love the card so much, but it's not in any deck right now. It's just outclassed by too many cards at this point.
