Do you know what this obscure card does? Yeah you probably don't. So here: Imprison. It may not look like a whole lot, but it's gaining quite a bit of hype as something to lock down commanders in black EDH decks -- just enchant some player's commander, specifically a voltron-y one, and it's basically out of service. So I'll just say it -- do you guys think it could be the next great black edh card like many are saying?
It's basically Black's only Arrest-type effect in it's arsenal except for Paralyze (which has a built-in out for the opponent) and Melancholy (which costs 3 mana, but puts the cost as an upkeep cost instead). If you are looking for something to lock down a Commander and you are in black, you are really limited to your options so I guess you take what you can get. It's not like you can do much better with artifact options either; Amber Prison might be your best bet, but you also have chaff like Deserter's Quarters and Barl's Cage unless you want to get crazy with something like Portcullis.
So if it's something you think you need, then Imprison is going to be one of the best options because there are so few options to begin with, but I think black has enough repeatable creature-kill options that outright removal is probably better.
Neat card, not sure I would run it, but I am sucker for Legends cards so maybe in a B-team deck. I have thrown in Demonic Torment before to serve a similar purpose, but it was never very good. Imprison is probably better.
If a deck cares a lot about its commander, it's probably going to have hexproof/shroud. A targeting piece of sorcery-speed removal is probably not something it's too worried about. I wouldn't play this.
