I agree with parts of this. Land tax has definitely helped me in my boros deck to strip me of all the lands in my deck, and it doesn't even matter if I'm discarding them unless someone blows up all lands. Then I'd probably be sad, but there isn't much mass land d in my meta. Plus Land Tax + Terrain Generator is simply awesome.
There aren't any good mana doublers in these colors. You can go for caged sun / gauntlet of power \ might but they're only working at 50%. I don't think they're strong enough for the card slot. When my friend built his gisela deck, we contemplated putting in mana flare and a bunch of X spells but out came most of the X spells and therefore out went mana flare. I think being able to put more lands in play via things like terrain generator, and druidic satchel are far superior to putting in doublers that only work at 50%, cost a lot, and have a tendency to get blown up.
Furnace I believe was discussed several pages back. It's a good card, but far too risky in a multiplayer format where there might be 3 other people taking turns and having a chance to respond to gisela and then being able to do massive damage to you and you not have any way to respond to it. Which is why the two double strike enchantments appeared instead.
Top is obvious (I think at least) especially in colors that can't draw worth a ****. However I think Train has this a bit budget atm.
Reiterate and Ricochet are already in the deck, and Orchid is awesome and I'd run him over cartogropher in a meta that likes green any day.
I'm curious how the decks been working out for you so far DTrain! Also, what did you end up getting your friend for his graduation present? I'm curious! I also like exclamation points. I imagine you're still trying to find a Wheel of Fortune to swap out for Reforge the Soul, and a Miraculous Recovery in lieu of Defy Death?!
I've had quite a bit of fun with this deck, and even won some games, thanks in large part to the help of everyone in this thread. As for your suggestions, Miraculous Recovery is definitely superior to Defy Death. As far as Wheel of Fortune, it will certainly go in the deck as soon as I can get one. I'm not sure that Reforge the Soul is the card I would cut because I really like the stuff that draws a lot (Reforge, Knollspine), and I seem to win more often when I resolve them. As for my friend's graduation present, unfortunately I didn't have enough time to have a copy of Jenara altered for his general, so I ended up having to just get him a Primeval Titan. Not the most original thing, but it's a staple and he didn't have one, so I figured it would be something he would get a lot of use out of.
A lot of people are this way, and that's why a buddy of mine and I (who have several EDH decks, but most of ours include some variation of Wor R and not G and as such aren't able to crank out mass mana to do wacky things. So we've started including odd items like Druidic Satchel (Which as much as I hate to admit it, is effing awesome) and lands like Terrain Generator to go along with Land Tax / Armillary Sphere / Journeyer's Kite. I run ruination since I run only 4-5 non basics, and they're not really utility. It's something I built the deck around and it usually really decimates non mono colored decks. Some people are upset when I use it, but generally it's a good closer and even as a non-finisher it takes care of problematic lands that I don't have a ton of ways to deal with otherwise.
I actually thought about running some of those type of cards, like Terrain Generator and Walking Atlas, but I ended up dropping the idea before I ever tested it. Those could actually be potentially pretty good. Journeyer's Kite is definitely interesting. I think there are a couple floating around my playgroup, so I'll try to get one of them. I probably won't be getting a Land Tax any time soon because of its unbanning in Legacy and price spiking up to $30.
It's not my favorite because it's symmetrical. Obviously if you have it out with Gisela you can usually one-shot people, but I prefer to have True Conviction or Rage Reflection instead.
Mana Doublers are indeed awesome. However, there aren't many good ones available to me. I already run Caged Sun, but I'm thinking about cutting it because I can never get full value from it. Coalhauler is pretty awful by itself. Earthquake used to be here, but lost out to better sweepers like Austere Command and Blasphemous Act.

As I said, I'm going to give Terrain Generator a try. Unfortunately, it won't be teaming up with Land Tax because of financial concerns.

I tend to agree. There's also Extraplanar Lens, but none of the are really worth there while in a deck like this where they only work halfway and die really easily.

Yep, this is basically my reasoning as well. Isn't there a card that only doubles my damage that costs 1 more?
Top is obvious (I think at least) especially in colors that can't draw worth a ****. However I think Train has this a bit budget atm.
I actually have a top, but it's in one of my other decks. I'm not sure how my group feels about sharing between decks.
Reiterate and Ricochet are already in the deck, and Orchid is awesome and I'd run him over cartogropher in a meta that likes green any day.
Yep, Orchid is a card I need to get.
I'll be going through and updating the decklist once I have time.
I believe you said you run Gisela as a finisher, which I believe is the right thing to do whenever you have a general that costs 7+ (especially in her colors).
But if she dies, do you send her straight to the command zone, or do you let her "die"? It's been my theory (only a theory with minimal practice mind you) that higher-costing generals are better spent waiting to be revived than being sent back to the command zone because the general tax becomes so exhausting after a single casting.
You have enough resurrection/creature-to-hand recursion that you could either recast Gisela for her original cost or cheat her into play for cheaper if you can't win before she's gone from the board (with the obvious exception of being exiled).
Of course this means your opponent's could resurrect her from you, and that would suck, but different metas differ respectively (remember that if your general would be sent to the graveyard or exiled from ANYWHERE you can send them to the command zone as a replacement effect).
I'm surprised you play Blasphemous Act & Chain Reaction. The former kills Gisela for sure, the latter pretty often. I think Sulfurous Blast is the much better option here, being sunforgible - RW for 4 dmg at instant speed, 6 at sorcery speed & only 1 dmg to your creatures is just great imo.
Another card i made really good experiences with is Invader Parasite. Not only do you get rid of a problematic land, it will hurt a mono-U or B players (special friends of this deck) like crazy. Combine it with Manabarbs and see their life decline like the value of the €uro
cheers
Well, the idea is that we need some wrath effects that can be good separate from Gisela, since chances are that she won't be out since we'd be using them to control the board before we play her.
Blasphemous Act can end up being a pretty cheap wrath if there're enough creatures on the board, and fits into "play before you drop Gisela".
Chain Reaction is one of those that just scales in power. It's not unreasonable to use it for at least 4-6 damage per creature if you're playing with 4-5 people regularly. Sulfurous Blast is an interesting card though, but I don't feel it's wise to run it if you're counting on Gisela being there to boost it. But if your meta sees a lot of small utility creatures, than I don't see anything wrong with it at all.
Invader Parasite is very good against mono-colored, I agree. Defiantly one worth investigating more.
another way to help lower Your costs is getting your hands on the Ruby and Perl Medallions from Tempest. they are use full
(they cost 2 and Reduce all spells of the color by 1)
So I am thinking about bringing this deck back after some discussion on cryogen's list, and ever since I stopped playing this list I have been wanting a RW deck again. My MTG collection has expanded quite a bit since I last played this deck, so there are going to be a lot of changes. Let me know if you guys don't agree with any of them:
Mana doublers are awesome. Earthquake + Coalhauler Swine hehehehe....
Land Tax anyone?
No Sensei's Divining Top?
Reiterate, Wild Ricochet- are all GREAT ways to interat on the stack.
Shattering Spree WEHEHEHE DESTROY ALL THE ARTIFACTS (Except for yours) or just run Shatterstorm
Knight of the White Orchid for a better Kor Cartographer.

Not for $30.
I have one, but it's in another deck.
I'm already running both.
I prefer to run stuff like Orim's Thunder and Return to Dust because they also hit Enchantments and provide additional utility.
Definitely something I need to get a copy of. Will be especially good if I can get a Sacred Foundry.
