Good Luck.
.......
If you're building the deck primarily for duels (for which Brion is amazing), I would suggest running the full set of "Ball Lightning" spells: Ball Lightning, Blistering Firecat, Thunderblust, Lightning Serpent, are the best. They're really good for 'flinging' with Brion.
You also need a Sol Ring to power out a turn 2 attacking Brion. Turn 1, Mountain, Sol Ring, Lightning Greaves - Turn 2, plains, Brion Stoutarm, equip, smack! 8 point life swing, and 4 towards general damage.
So I proxied up this deck last night except for a few minor changes. I removed Sculpting Steel because of the lack of artifacts in this deck. It's very situational on an artifact being out, and I don't think this is a good deck for it. I also took out Lightning Greaves just because haste isn't that important in this deck, IMO. It's great for a turn 2 Brion, but other than that you're not doing much with it.
I also removed Terramorphic Expanse, albeit reluctantly. I figured that with Land Tax, this card isn't exactly to best land to put in.
Return to Dust was also cut.
Mirror entity, because it's too mana intensive for me.
Now lemme see if I can remember what I added.
Mutavault because I love manlands. Sword of Light and Shadow because one of the guys in my playgroup plays a Ghost Council deck, and this is too good to not play. Glory of Warfare for the extra Brion fling damage and the added defense. Skullclamp because this card is broken. Steal, equip, attack, fling, draw 2. Phyrexian Vault because sometimes it's better to sac draw rather than do damage.
I don't think you're seeing the piont of lightning greaves. Haste is just bonus, shroud is the main reason its there. Coincidentally, if you play Leonin Shikari, its instant speed free shroud for any creature in response to targetting.

I can understand the decision to take out sculpting steel - it's mostly a meta choice for me (and it's a great card). It's not in my deck to copy my artifacts as much as it is to copy my opponents stuff...too many DSC running around, and there's nothing like making one of your own for :3mana:!! There's no shortage of other broken artifacts to copy either (ever copy a Gilded Lotus with it?).
You took out Lightning Greaves? Yes the shroud is great, but don't underestimate the value of haste in a group game. (I know I talk about turn 2 Brion a lot, but that's just because I'm a dork; that's not all it's good for) Too many times I've spent my entire turn casting a huge fatty, only to have it killed before it makes it back around the table. Of course, in my playgroup we all use rather powerful decks, so one needs to have every advantage. Even 1v1 it can make all the difference.
Haste in EDH = Big beats, no waiting. It's so important that I've considered finding a spot for Fervor along with anger and greaves.
Return to Dust is really good. There are lots of things that need to be RFG'd, especially when people are allowed to use stuff like Academy Ruins. Plus, it's card advantage!
Mirror Entity - I go back and forth on him. At this point he's in there because I can get him back with Lark, and he's an emergency sac outlet if someone tries to Hallowed Burial or something. Also works great after an Insurrection, "Swing with everyone's stuff! Awww, now they're 0/0."
Not sure about Glory of Warfare. I thought about it, but I would rather have a Balefire Liege in that spot. He still buffs your guys a bit, but gives you the chance to get some extra damage/life out of your other spells. And you can Lark him back.

Well my meta is me and one other guy usually doing 1v1's, so Lightning Greaves just didn't make the cut. Every now and again we'll loan out our other decks to create a multiplayer game, but no one seems to enjoy it but us. But this is where the Ghost Council deck comes in. It's the other guys and most people like to borrow this deck, since it is a lot of fun.
Based on his current deck that he's playing (Wort, the Raidmother) I don't think haste is going to be optimal, though I do think the shroud will be. I'll just have to test it to see what I like and don't like.
Return to Dust will probably get added. I didn't put it in because I'm an idiot and overlooked it when I proxied. I just need to know what to take out now and see after play testing it if I need it ever. We'll see.
I thought about Balefire Liege, but it's color dependent. The guys I steal may not be in that color, and not get the benefit. That was the main reason was giving every guy I steal the extra +2 damage. Also enchantments are harder to remove than creatures.
OK, my Brother is currently in Italy on a study abroad trip, and since my birthday was yesterday he thought he would get me a cool card while he's over there. He knows one of my favorite magic cards is Fork, so he found me a sweet mint condition, black-bordered revised copy! I'm totally psyched about it because now I can finally have a Fork in my favorite deck. I've refused to add it until now because I only have white bordered ones, and there are no other white bordered cards in the deck (I'm a dork, I know, but it's nearly all foiled, and white bordered cards look bad).
My dilemma is this - what to take out? As I mentioned, this is my favorite deck, so the list is highly tweaked. Help me decide how to fit in my awesome new Fork!!!
Oh, and my decklist is in the first post of the thread...I always keep it updated.
Edit:
Ha! I guess you can forget about that. After I posted this, my friend suggested I take out Crib Swap which seemed like the best option. If you can see a better one, still feel free to suggest it.
Yea, he was on the short list of things I might take out too. It was kind of between: Mirror Entity, Crib Swap, and Phyrexian Processor. Obviously I went with CS with the idea that I had enough removal, and if need be, Fork could always copy a removal spell. ME is cool if you drop him early with some mana accel - you can sometimes get in quite a bit of damage before slower decks get going. Also, like I mentioned, he's an emergency sac outlet should I need it. The Processor, well, that's just in because it combos so well with Brion.
The processor looks so ridiculous and tailor made for a Brion deck, i would definetly take out a lot of other stuff before it.
Oh my god, you have no idea! I've only pulled it off once, but it was ridiculous! I haven't had it in here for long, but the way I see it - if you have Brion in play, 9 mana open and a higher life total than anyone else; you can play the processor, pay life equal to an opponent's life total, make an X/X token, fling it with Brion to kill them and end up right back where you started in life.
The only reasons I would take it out are A)It's a little cost intensive to pull off, B)It has massive backfire potential...I would only try it in a limited number of situations. I may drop it later, but for now, I want to play around with it a bit.
Updated the list in the first post with my newest changes. I recently picked up a foil Twilight Shepherd, a foil Sword of Light and Shadow (thanks Adam!), and two more foil unhinged mountains. As of now, I've foiled 96 out of 100 cards in the deck, including 14 unhinged mountains, and 10 unhinged plains. The fetchlands aren't foil, and I can't foil the Plateau or Fork (I have foreign black bordered ones instead). Of course, at some point I'm going to switch out something for a foil Baneslayer......I just need to GET a foil Baneslayer first.......
I would love to see a 1v1 version of this. Ive been playing for a few months now and just got into EDH and i really like your deck idea.:D
Thanks, this has always been my favorite EDH deck. I honestly don't think I would change the deck for duels, except perhaps to add a bit more artifact & enchantment spot removal (maximum of 1 or 2 more spells). I've always considered putting in a few things like Orim's Thunder and Dust to Dust. I've had Disenchant in the deck in the past, as well as Shattering Pulse and Allay, which were excellent, but got cut at one time or another.....in fact, they're so good that they'll probably end up back in the deck one day......buyback is amazing in EDH, and you can play them with Sunforger! (edit: and you can pay the buyback when you do....)
Aside from that, the deck fares rather well in duels for a number of reasons:
1) Brion gets rolling on turn 4, if not earlier. Having a low CMC General is always nice in duels.
2) You have lots of spot removal for creatures, which lets you swing in freely (possibly with their stuff).
3) Great mass removal to reset the board.
4) High-quality bombs to drop after said resets.
Anyway, you get the idea; the deck has tons of removal, and great creatures that will get the job done after you're finished killing their stuff. As I said, perhaps 1 or 2 more spot removal spells for duels, but that's about it. As always, I have no idea what I would take out of the deck......
I am just proxying this up to play, and I was wondering why you didn't include a Spinerock Knoll in this deck. With how much damage Brion or any creature in this deck can do directly to an opponent, it seems like it would be really good.
I've tested it in the past, for quite some time actually, and just never liked it. It could be great, but it never really worked for me. Take out a mountain for it and test it - maybe you'll have better luck with it - let me know how it works out!
I love this deck. Its amazingly fun. I've pulled a few shenanigans here and there that make me a big target :). Last week I used Word of Siezing to take this dude's Oblivion Stone and put a counter on my general. At any rate, its definitely fun!
Heres my list. Its really similar to the original post and has some differences (I think I added Preacher which is totally badass when paired with Adarkar Valkyrie.
One thing I've noticed is that I'm being watched in group games for taking ppl's creatures. My 'stealing creatures' spells are being countered and 'swerved' a lot. Anyone have any suggestions to make those a little more reliable? I added Boseiju, Who Shelters All but haven't had it out yet.
Are there too many big creatures? I'm worried sometimes that I will hit too many big creatures in my opening hand and I'll be screwed.
I like the idea of having Pumpable creatures on my end....attack with them, pump then and throw for some extra damage...just a thought...would that be any good?
Emeria, the Sky Ruin + Anarchist + any wrath effect. You can wrath every turn as long as you have an active Emeria. Add in Anger and you can attack. If you can bring back a Karmic Guide into the Anarchist, then you can attack for more. Its small, but if you can get this going, it makes it real hard for someone to stop you outside of killing your Emeria or removing anarchist from the game.
I really like Skarrgaan Firebird, and Magma Phoenix. I've noticed the Phoenix on a few lists, but the firebird is just nuts. The recursion is highly relevant, as it ensures you rarely run out of gas, and basically once you hit ten mana, its just a cycle of fling, recur, recast.
OknotOk I would think Day of Judgement would be a better pick over Planar Cleansing. Obv Cleansing is cheaper but Day of Judgbment can be searched via Sunforger.

You may also want to find room for some tricks like Wild Ricochet and Reiterate - they're really good at dealing with annoying blue decks.

*whew* sorry. Deep breaths.
But seriously. Insurrection + Stoutarm + Thornbite Staff + a little mana = 1-sided wrath and buttloads of damage to your opponent.
Also, thousand-year elixer might be good.
Also, I'm testing out Rings of Brighthearth - always wanted to, but never got around to it.
