Red has such a hard time being reactive that I love playing all the strong hosers we have available. I'm going to to try the orb. Yes, it shuts off a few cards but I we have Slobad to sac it in a pinch and with the way EDH is heading (magic in general really) stopping those CitP can really shut down some decks, especially with those new Primordials (7 drop bombs that each color is getting in gate crash) comming out. Does any feel that the red Primordial is a little weak compared to the rest? I personally am not a huge fan of threaten effects, especially compared to the white and black one. ruination, stranglehold, grafdiggers cage, and now torpor orb. Are there and other efficient hosers that red has access to?
Everyone in the thread is saying that the white is the weakest, the green is by far the best, followed closely by black and red, then blue then white in my opinion

I could agree with this, although IMO i think that blue is better then red.
One card that I've always loved that seems like it would be pretty bonkers with Slobad to protect it is Vedalken Orrery. Being able to cast ANY of our disruption or land wipes at instant speed is devastating. In addition, EOT flashing in our Wheels or creature cards like Welder, Forgemaster, and the new Hellkite Tyrant is very strong as well. It just gives the deck, which is almost entirely sorcery-speed, some "quickness."
I played Vedalken Orrery for a while and did like it but cut it because it doesn't do anything on its own. There is also Shimmer Myr which has a similar effect for the deck. They are good but they limit the space you can devote to threats. I recently put Lightning Grieves back in and like it a lot the way the deck it now. It also gives to "speed" to the deck as well and adds some more protection.
@Bosaapje use the tags [deck+] [/deck+] (but take the + out and add a number in front of the cards).
Finally, after playing the deck enough, I have a synthesis of the strategy Slobad with mass LD uses and why. It uses heavy artifact builds to accelerate in mana far past opponents, and uses mass LD after that acceleration because most decks rely on land based mana and ours doesn't rely on it as much (it hurts the opponent a lot more than Slobad, securing a much better position than opponents). It plays a lot of hate to make up for weaknesses that mono-red and artifact based decks have. Both the hate and mass LD turn what is usually considered a weakness (artifact based red decks) into a strength due to how the deck is set up. Then it plays fatties and Slobad so it can win when it comes out of a mass destruction spell. Figuring that out deliberately has finally given my deck direction that it was lacking, and I thank you for coming up with so many great ideas on how to achieve this strategy. Sorry if this paragraph sounds a bit like your primer; I'm just glad I finally realized what I was trying to do with my Slobad deck.

There are many other ways besides these. I was thinking that having an outlet to kill an opponent with all this mana would be nice. Devil's Play is what I had in mind. I know Comet Storm kills everyone in one fell swoop but until you get the huge mana it clogs up your hand, and we have very few ways of getting it back. Ideally Devil's Play can only kill 2 players, but it also has the advantage of being able to be dumped to something like Wheel of Fortune or Chandra and then used later in the game. I dunno if this is even necessary or not, since an Obliterate with Slobad out is GG anyways, but what do you all think?
I've assembled the Rings + Basalt combo, on turn 3 no less... and had nothing to do with all the infinite mana. (Then someone Mindslavered me making me sacrifice everything but my 5 mountains. Argh.) I'm not entirely sure that mana sinks are what the deck needs, since space is already tight. There's certainly some you can do (like Nim Deathmantle) but I'm not tossing out important things just to put in win conditions that only work when I have infinite mana.
Finally got an All is Dust into my deck, Woo! I also pulled an Illusionist's Bracers at the prerelease, I'm curious if it will go in or not.
Congrats on the All is Dust! And Bracers is really interesting. It would be nuts with more than a couple cards.
I tend to agree on the infinite mana situation. I was just putting it out there because it's pretty darn easy for this deck to do. Myr Matrix would be another good outlet too, btw.
On another topic, I just noticed another interaction that I've been dying to put into a deck with indestructible lands. Ghost Quarter + Darksteel Citadel (or Great Furnace with Slobad making it indestructible) is Mountain search and deck thinning. With Crucible it's really really good. I might give it go.
I ran basalt monolith for a while but also felt that the deck does not really benefit from the infinite mana. It was great when I played Bosh as the general but not now. With Koth, both mana gauntlets, and caged sun I have never had problems hitting big mana. The deck only needs to hit around 8 mana to cast its big spells and that's no problem. I am going to be playing the bracers, I think it will UW pretty fun and I want to change a few things up. I will be trying to update Friday. I did link to the combo thread in the section about a combo version in the OP bit I really need to update the optional choices/versions section. All is dust is sooo good for this deck.
I run a really artifact heavy Slobad and mirrorworks does a CRAZY amount of work, just a thought.
Everyone loves two steel hellkites for 8 mana lol
I like Mirrorworks with the artifact lands, lol, though I'm always on the fence about the card in general. When it's good it's really good but often it doesn't seem to do enough, and most of our main beatsticks aren't artifact creatures unfortunately.
trees, I've got a question for you. How do you usually go about protecting your Planeswalkers? I know we can chump with tokens from Kher Keep and Pentavus (I run Myr Turbine as well), but that's not a lot of defense from flyers. I just put my Tawnos's Coffin in the deck (great idea), so that should help, but it seems like flyers are a problem. No? I guess it depends on one's meta, but I see a good amount of angels and dragons. Ensnaring Bridge might be good, but I'll try it with the Coffin first and see if that's enough.
Also, I can not wait to use Bracers with Pentavus!
Sweet list! I run one similar but mine is really heavy on artifact creatures with ETB effects and recurring them with Trading Post. One of my favorites is looping Volatile Rig and Solemn Simulacrum back and forth. Once I get Dross Scorpion into play I can even start using them 2-3 times a turn.

I played mirrorworks for a while but it mostly just copies mana rocks. With the current suit of mana rocks/doublers I run I'm never hard up for mana. I think its great for some decks that cant get Gauntlet of might, Grim Monolith, and Mana Crypt, but i never have trouble casting things. Honestly after getting a Gauntlet of might (in addition to gauntlet of power and caged sun) I felt that the whole mana base changed. Most of the time playing one copy of an artifact is enough for me.
There are not a ton of flyers in my meta so I have not had that big of an issue with them. Most of the time I really care about getting 1-2 uses out of them and assume that they will die eventually, Im not really aiming for an ultimate. Just dont run them out if they can be in danger and you dont need their effect right away. Tawnos's Coffin will go along way towards helping you. You could always run Junk diver as a deterrent and chump blocker. If you feel so inclined Island of Wak-Wak would be a great card (bonus jank combo with Predator, Flagship and Flying Carpet).
Okay guys, I need some help. I'm going to have a 1vs1 tournament pretty soon and I want to play the nastiest Slobad deck that's possible to play with. Blood Moons, land destruction, infinite wincombo'sm you name it, I want to play it. Can we make a list together that's going to give me some wins on the tournament?
The banned list is this:
Sol Ring
Mana Crypt/Vault
Ancient Tomb
This is the banlist for Slobad. There is more but we dn't have to care about that.
Slobad is not going to stack up well in a 1vs1 tourney, even with those mana accelerants. There's just not enough ways for the little red guy to interact with lightning fast, blue controlling, and deadly decks like Arcum, Zur, Rafiq, Grand Arbiter, etc. Slobad can do work, but multiplayer is where he shines the greatest. If I was going mono-red for 1vs1 I'd run Godo, Bandit Warlord. However, if you are set on Slobad I'd run something close to trees's Primer. It packs tons of disruption for the commonly played, tier 1 deck archetypes.

I would avoid a ton of combos in this deck due to the lack of tutors and draw and aim more for mass disruption. As Tigerdriver stated the deck might not be the best choice for 1v1. It can be pretty good if built right i.e land D/disruption. I would suggest a fusion of my deck and a land destruction style similar to Akroma angel of Fury which can be found in the 1v1 forum. That being said I just updated the OP with a lot of changes that i feel are big improvements so feel free to check it out.
Updates for the new set. I am going to try and update the OP inline with set releases, although i need to do some polishing in general over the next few weeks. My biggest focus with these updates is to try an improve the overall synergy of the deck and cut the cards that are good on their own but don't really interact with the rest of the deck. I think this will help its consistency and make for better plays and board states. Here are the changes and reasoning.
Reasons: Hellkite Tyrant: The deck has tons of artifact and can easily win with his second ability but that's not really that realistic, but it can happen especially with Mycosynth Lattice. The Lattice also lets you steal someones whole board or use Liquidmetal Coating to steal target permanents. Yes, I know that he doesn't pass the "Terminate test" but swinging with him can be a very big advantage. I also put in Lightning greaves so that will help. Plus, who doesn't want to play with this dude? Illusionist Bracers: Great with Slobad for double Indestructible. Really crazy with Pentavus and every creature in the deck. With Karn, Silver Golem you can equip to any of your artifacts with good abilities i.e. Trading post, Grim Monolith (copy the untap for infinite mana), Tawnos's Coffin, etc. And if the game gets crazy you can use Mycosynth Lattice or Liquimetal Coating + Karn, Silver Golem to equip to a Planeswalker for double abilities, dreams can come true. Myr Turbine: I put in Skullclamp and wanted another good token maker. The upfront coast is a little high at 5 but not having to worry about any further investment makes it worthwhile. The second ability is good (only targets are Myr Battlesphere and Myr Retriever) but that's not really why I am playing this card. Swinging for 24 damage with Battleball would be great but having a free sac for Slobad, a great target for Skullclamp, and chump blockers is worth it. Torpor Orb: Another great hoser with all the great inter-the-battlefield creatures going around. This is a lot more of a meta call but I feel that a lot of decks are turning into ItB good stuff decks. Lightning Greaves: I know that some people think that this card is always an auto include but I stopped running it because my meta ran very little targeted removal in favor of wrath effects. My meta has shifted and I know think it needs to be put in. Free protection and haste. Most of the creatures in the deck have really good tap abilities so having the ability to use them right away is so good. Winter Orb: This is a pretty brutal card when played at the right time. The deck has a ton of artifact based mana so most of the time you wont even notice it and when you do need the mana on your next turn just sac it with Slobad at the end of your opponents turn so you get your full untap step. Skullclamp: OMG such a good card. With Kher Keep, Myr Turbine, Pentavus, Myr Battlesphere, and Trading Post you have a lot of options to draw a bunch of cards. Red doesn't have a lot of access to draw and this card really helps.
I will be updating the list of good Godo equipments soon.
Yo trees, cool analysis on the changes. The Illusionist's Bracers combos with Karn (and Coating, Lattice, etc.) are so awesome. That's EXACTLY the kind of thing I want to do with ole' Slobad!
I just had a good series of games with Slobad where Hellkite Igniter was a wrecking ball. So many in my group have really greedy manabases as well, and the Ruination and Obliterate effects are really crushing. They'll learn to adapt.
I see you pulled your Mad Prophet, and so far my Rummaging Goblin has been pretty good, especially combined with Journeyer's Kite or Crucible of Worlds, among others. The Bracers would be great with him as well.
Another really good card with Bracers is Mindless Automaton. He's an artifact, and with Bracers he turns into "1: discard a card, draw a card." I know outside of this combination he's pretty lackluster, but it's just a thought.
I cut mad prophet for skullclamp which I thought was a good cut but I realize how good he is with the bracers and have been looking to get him back in because of that. As far as your meta adapting to ruination my play group also started making a less greedy mana base in response to the moon effects which is why I cut them (not to mention better and better strategy hate I.e. grafdiggers cage etc.) But ruination will always be great because you won't get those lands back. Automation could be good to but mind's eye would probably be better in a vaccume. hellkite igniter is so good and can get really dumb with a few mana doublers out. I played him the other night I swung for 60+, I don't like running big beaters that only smash face but he hits way to hard to not run.
Pretty small deck list update. Put a Thespian's Stage in for a mountain.
Overall I am liking the most recent changes I made. The deck has so much more synergy now and is really turning into a machine. With red having little consistent draw power I tried to focus on putting in cards that offer a lot of interactions with many other cards. I feel like the deck is a lot more consistent now and can really generate a lot of card advantage. Sadly Hellkite tyrant does not seem to be as good as I was hoping. I didn't think he would be as good as he looks on paper for this deck but I was really hoping for some fun plays with him. I have not given up yet and am still play testing.
The deck runs a pretty small amount of creatures so it can be good. It's really a meta call, If you are running against a lot of swarm style creature decks i think smoke would be great. Crawlspace might do the job better, being an artifact. There are more ways to get it back and protect it. Or even Portcullis/Storage Matrix for similar type of effects. Having the effects come from artifacts are more well suited for the deck.

I've never seen Crawlspace but I love it (my meta has a few aggro decks that are quite good, like Rakdos 2.0, Edric, tribal Slivers). Also, I play a deck very similar to (and based on) yours and thought I'd just share a story real quick:
I was playing a game the other day against said Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck and a Kresh the Bloodbraided aggro/reanimator/sacrifice shenanigans deck. A lot of crazy interactions happened but the ending of the game was what really did it for me. I had Slobad out, equipped with Silverskin Armor, a Karn Liberated, and (amongst a large board of artifacts) a Caged Sun and Planar Portal and had a HUGE Kresh coming at me, but I was able to animate the Caged Sun and Planar Portal, double block, and then Comet Storm FTW next turn. It seems like Slobad is quite good at pulling out victories and just general "wtf" moments like that often and I'm looking forward to playing it more!
I like silverskin armor as a way to make creatures artifact. I strongly recommend liquidmetal coating, it can do the same thing and lead to some very interesting board states. I once used it to make a Karn liberated an artifact then animated with karn, silver golem and equiped a illusionist bracers to double up on the exile. Plus you can save enchantments.

pretty sure at that point you get infinite ability activations don't you or is that only with kraj?
I believe that is only with Kraj because the clause to use a planeswalkers ability once is attached to the planeswalker its self and nog the ability allowing Kraj to use it over and over. If I make a planeswalker an artifact then a creature it is still technically a planeswalker.

I loveHellkite Igniter as my beater, he comes in swing for so much damage. I really like having Gauntlet power, Gauntlet of Might, and Koth, of the Hammer. They will get you a lot of mana. Running Wheel of Fortune, Reforge the Soul, and Chandra Ablaze will really help out your card draw. Furnace Celebration might also be good with your mana loops for an insta-win.

A couple thoughts I had when laying my deck out by card type:
Depending on your build, you may have 1 or more infinite mana engines. There is Rings + Basalt Monolith
Slobad + Karn + Salvaging Station + either Sol Ring or Mana Vault or Mana Crypt
Krark-Clan Ironworks + Nim Deathmantle + either Wurmcoil or Battlesphere.
There are many other ways besides these. I was thinking that having an outlet to kill an opponent with all this mana would be nice. Devil's Play is what I had in mind.
