That's interesting, I had not been thinking of a direct swap when I posted up about those cards but it does make some sense. I'll probably keep O-Stone around through this next round of cuts and see how things play out.
While I like these proposed changes and think I'll go through with them I'm concerned about raising the curve even more. Anyone see areas where we could trim back or should I just say screw it and add more ramp?
These changes don't seem to raise the curve very much. Apart from the Fecundity change, every new card added had the same or less CMC than the card cut.
I usually view SoFaF as a spell that costs 0 but overall I guess you are correct.
I've been running Nature's Lore and Three Visits in almost all my green decks and I like them a lot. Bloom Tender is another option. These all hit that nice turn 2 cast slot. Tithe isn't ramp but it's another card I like.
If you feel that more ramp is necessary, then these are pretty good options. I have liked how this deck has steered away from sorcery ramp, but the Nature's Lores are pretty strong.
Bloom Tender is a pretty nice card, and an Elf, so if you wanted another creature to accelerate your mana this is a good option. Also, I love Tithe in cube, so it can't be too bad in Commander.
All these options don't seem too bad. If you like Nature's Lore, there is always Skyshroud Claim as well.
I like your current cuts. I don't think you really need to add any of the sorcery ramp, but if you do need to add more ramp, Bloom Tender isn't too bad.
Probably just going to play it as is with the proposed cuts above and see how it does. If I change too much all at once it's harder to see what's working and what isn't. So we have 2 weeks before Bane of Progress?
Just picked up a Greater Auramancy... is it worth it to have two Sterling Grove effects? I'm debating whether to throw it into Rhys or Zedruu - Zedruu lacks any enchantment protection, but it does have counters while dropping two Grove effects at the same time in Rhys protects you from pretty much everything but Austere and Bane (because who runs any other mass enchantment removal?).
Still not sold on running a third copy of Doubling Season. Might happen but I'll have to see if I can get one first. Not getting into another Fecundity discussion :P.
I've thought about Greater Auramancy before but it compares pretty poorly to Sterling Grove so I've never bothered to try it out. I'm sure it's a fine card though as it basically gives you 3 of that effect (with Privileged Position).
So which stompy green draw spell did you end up adding to the deck? I have always been a huge fan of Regal Force, but I know you used to be a big proponent of Skullmulcher.
I played this weekend with Regal Force in the deck but don't recall drawing him. There were probably more instances where I would have liked to draw him though one of the games was pretty rough since I managed to lock myself down with my own Humility and neither would have been very useful :/
I wanted to do a Rhys commander deck, but it keeps getting smashed. I run scion of vitu-ghazi , mimic vat , seance , dual nature along with "enter the battlefield, get a token" and flicker effects...any advice?
It's difficult without seeing your deck or knowing your metagame but I can offer the following:
You need to tweak the tutor package to your own meta, for example Sacred Ground may be worthless for you but more creature control might be crucial so swap out the Sacred Ground for something that kills creatures.
If you're on a budget try to get replacements that fill a similar role. Gaea's Cradle may be expensive but if you don't have one don't put in a Woodfall Primus to replace it.
Post up a list! It's a lot easier to make suggestions if I know what I'm working with.
Diversify your decks a little bit. If this is the only deck you have or the other decks you have are similar it's pretty easy to hate you out.
Not sure if any of that will help but those are my initial thoughts.
I think tightening up the curve would help. Trostani's Judgment is far too expensive when a simple Swords to Plowshares would work, Copper Myr should probably be a mana elf, Vine Trellis could be Fyndhorn Elves, etc. It also looks like you might have some difficulty finishing out the game. You can go for a swarm strategy but you're not building up tokens too quickly. I think Craterhoof Behemoth could help a lot with this as you don't need a big army for him to do serious damage. You don't run many creature tutors which is the bulk of your spells. Worldly Tutor and Eladamri's Call are some of the better options there. Interesting build though and thanks for sharing it.
Looks good. I'd play some games with it and see how it does. If you change too many things all at once it's harder to tell what's working and what isn't.
I got a chance to test the new Elspeth yesterday (against Edric and Teysa Stax). Her second ability was completely useless in the match-up and she got hated off the table pretty quickly, but I still view her as a solid replacement for Austere. I haven't added Bane to my decklist, but it hasn't proven necessary. The two Seals (Cleansing and Primordium) proved their worth and more as MVPs - enchantments almost never warrant mass removal in my experience. Artifacts sometimes, but I have yet to play a truly dedicated artifact deck outside of Voltron builds.
On a side note, I would love to see a dedicated enchantress planeswalker in GW... something like
+1: Gain a life for each enchantment you control
-2 or 3: Draw a card for each enchantment you control
-X Return an enchantment with CMC X from your graveyard to the battlefield
I'm going to Walmart today to try and pick up a couple of them. Really looking forward to testing Bane of Progress…wait does he have the same abbreviation as Birds of Paradise…he does.:(
EDIT: Man expensive trip to Walmart. Playstation 4, Killzone, 2 precons and a holiday gift box (opened Stormbreath Dragon and crap). Can't wait to get home though!
You should remove stoneforge mystic in your deck cause you have no more equipments.
It's exclusively a Skullclamp tutor now. Kind of awkward to draw it with no targets but that does mean you already got your Skullclamp. I've tried Lightning Greaves and Sword of Feast and Famine out and they're both fine as secondary targets.
New set is spoiled but unfortunately looks like there's just a lot of near misses. Cards that stood out as possibilities
Brimaz, King of Oreskos - I'm not currently running Hero of Bladehold but for those that do this guy might be worth it as a backup. Vigilance is a pretty nice ability to have on a token.
Plea for Guidance - They don't print enchantment tutors very often so I'm up for running anything viable but this is pretty questionable at 6 mana. It does fetch 2 cards so it could set up some mini combos or finish off a 3 card combo. Unfortunately it costs so much mana you probably can't win that turn and you'll telegraph your play to everyone. So it's got pros and cons, probably the card I'm most interested in.
Spirit of the Labyrinth - This is a solid hate bear and very accessible for this deck being and enchantment as well. It also hits a nice spot in the curve. Does it do enough? Maybe. It also shuts off Skullclamp and our other draw which is a bummer.
Karametra, God of Harvests - Extremely accessible which is nice but it costs the same as Mirari's Wake and only triggers of casting creatures. Probably going to pass but the card is interesting.
There was some more fringe stuff but these stood out to me as the most likely possibilities.
I really like Spirit of the Labyrinth, especially in draw heavy metas. Almost everyone I play now seems to have a Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck, and even if a lot of them aren't very good, at least it makes life so much easier against a huge portion of the playing field.
I like Karametra, God of Harvests a lot. I don't think she fits in this deck, especially due to the lack of creatures to cast. If Genesis was still in she would be a lot better, but as it is I this the sidelines is the best bet for her. My favorite thing about her is that she's not Emmara Tandris, which puts her far ahead of the last member of the Legendary guild Cycle.
