Counterbalance did not make the cut. It's too situational. I've added Thassa in, she's been amazing. Survives most wipes, the scry is terrific, and although she can be hard to turn on it's usually worth it. Other recent changes include taking zur's weirding out, and scroll rack, and adding in tinker Mage and mana vault. I've also been reconsidering more card draw such as rhystic study or font of fortunes. I might add in one drop artifact hate such as grafdiggers cage, tormods crypt and pitching needle along with a trinket Mage for large tournament stability.
Generally the lock order is
1) moat/humility, though this will shut hanna off
2) greater auramancy/copy enchantment
3) honden of cleansing fire/seeing winds/test of endurance or jtms for a wincon
4) enchanted evening/opalescence
There's lots of ways to get there though, and if you are experiencing heavy hate you can bide time with nukes like enchanted evening/ndisk or use mindslaver as a backup wincon. Stasis/Landtax or capsize is also a great way to get started.
If you're still playing land tax I definitely think you should leave scroll rack in. They're just so good together. Trinket mage is amazing. No matter how many more experienced players run vault I'm just not sold unless I'm trying to combo off asap which is not the case.
I'm only half paying attention to the spoilers but I haven't seen anything I want
I wanted to try Hanna as she seem quite awesome. Wondering about Back to Basics, as I dont see it in the list but read it was very metagame-dependant. How would you build the deck with Basics in mind? Half my playgroup are in 3-colors decks so I thought it would be quite good. Also, I dont have a clue what to take out for it.
I swapped Copy Artifact for Treachery, as I see it as a very good play in tempo aspect.
Thanks you for doing such excellent job on this primer.
Hi Sheva. I had back to basics in at one point in time. It was pretty good except when it didn't just outright win it was terrible and I didn't like the extremes that much. If you're playing back to basics I would cut some of the man lands and the standstill plan. They don't work very well together. but other than that not much needs to be changed. My copy artifact is usually either mana ramp or isochron scepter, both things tI value very highly whereas treachery wouldn't do much for me with the people I play with.
So far clever impersonator is the only thing from Khans that I have any interest in adding. Flooded Strand makes sense of course too but I keep mine with my legacy stuff and if I open any more I'll be trying to trade them for fetches I don't own a set of
Containment Priest is a great card, and for an enchantment version of the deck like this one, I think it would fit nicely. Containment priest is going to really force some opponents to readdress how they play the game; however, for Hanna, I believe that, unless she's in a blink heavy meta, Ethersworn Canonist is still the stronger card--particularly for artifact heavy builds. (although balanced builds would also see a benefit).
With such small bodies, being able to bring Ethersworn back over and over is ultimately going to do more to hamper your opponents over the long game. Containment Priest's exile is tempting (particularly if your meta is GY heavy) but the only players she is really going to hose are the players who abuse CiP abilities (which I'll acknowledge there's a ton of) and recursion decks (which again, there's a lot of--i know).
Ultimately, I don't believe you would necessarily be going wrong with either choice, but if you're looking at the 99th card, I think you've probably got to go with Ethersworn Canonist over Containment Priest unless your meta dictates otherwise.
BTW, thanks for bringing this Hanna thread back to the fore--it's nice to see someone else out there is still using her, I'm sure the OP is tickled to death as well.

No one spoke. There was no need. The threat of the Eldrazi presented a simple choice: lay down your arms and die for nothing, or hold them fast and die for something.
Sorry for the slow response. Haven't had much edh going on lately :/ I've been on a bit of a legacy grind. Hmm containment priest. Not worth the $$$ in my opinion. Definitely something I could see in the deck though. I won't be using it as I don't think it would do much around my store but seems good in general. And yes, you could just remove it with the wave and still have everything enter.
With the new rules for tucking, I've managed to squeeze in a pithing needle and nevermore. Karmic Justice I've liked, as its a good deterrent for new or poorer players, however better players will not be deterred as easily. I've removed the Enchanted Evening/Opalescence combo as much as I liked it, it was a win more. When you have Jace and/or Narset behind the pillow fort, its rare that they will be easily disrupted. Also, Narset is godlike, but makes you easily the biggest target in the room. I've got off her ultimate before, and behind a moat/humility no less. The game was over, I had inevitability.
I've been tinkering with Hanna for awhile. Right now I'm using Stuffy Doll and Guilty Conscience with Tower of Calamities and Grand Architect for the luls. I've actually won a couple of game with savage beats with Grand Architect and several clone effects. I also and testing a Triskelion/Scythe of the Wretched/sac outlet combo. For those that don't know, it runs similar to the Triskelion/Mikaeus, the Unhallowed combo. You shoot Triksy for 1 and someone for 2, then sac him, since he did damage to himself, he comes back equipped to scythe then you rinse and repeat
Is anyone still tweaking this deck? I've recently been working on my own list & was interested to see if anyone's adopted Paradox Engine or any other cards from recent sets.
I have been playing regularly with Hanna, she's my absolutely favorite commander since I got addicted in the format.
My EDH regular groups have grown used to Hanna, in the sense that when I pull it our of the box, people frown and moan. Some have taken pride in trying to take Hanna down, but man, this deck is pretty hardcore in keeping the table under control. The win ratio is quite high, if you consider the other players conceding a stax'ed game by asking "will you eventually combo out" to which the reply is always "Yeah, probably. Would you like to see?"
Since this deck is very frustrating to play against, I've reduced the number of elements required to combo out quickly and instead focused on long-term control and stax, which creates a diversion to my opponents, allowing me to calmly assemble all combo pieces and deal with any threats, while keeping myself safe in the process. In a table of four, usually the favored's opponent choice for disenchanting would by an Arcane Laboratory or Static Orb, instead of a Propaganda or Ghostly Prison. I.e., in sake of playing with my friends, I made this deck even more badass by keeping my opponents under control and doing what I expect them to do, even when they are totally unaware.
(And that is also the reason why I had to build some aggro/midrange decks to keep my friends from hating me a lot)
Just found this thread today. Hanna has always been one of my favorite cards, and this has been a huge help in improving my own deck. I see there hasn't been an update in a while so I'm hoping to spark some conversation again. There have been a lot of good cards for Hanna lately, I'm hoping someone could provide their opinion on my build. I'm going for a balance between Artifacts and Enchantments, and there are still some cards I'd like to find room for.

I feel like Trinket Mage would do really well here, as well as possibly Heliod, God of the Sun.
