ZenN I read this primer and kinda fell in love with the deck. Seams like a ton of fun and I would like to build it but I have almost none of the cards for it. Is there a place your recommend starting at?
It's been a while since I looked at this thread. Augh. This Primer is really quite good. A card that has proven to be very good in testing is Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. It has fantastic synergy with the deck and gives relevant cards in the 'yard flashback in addition to getting things into the 'yard in the first place. What do you think?

Sorry it's taken so long for me to answer you here! I've been really busy lately and it kinda slipped through the cracks. As far as a starting place goes I'm not entirely sure. If it helps, when I build a new deck, what I usually do is figure out what I already own, then spend $50-$100 to get as much of the little stuff I can, which is usually every card that is <$10 or so, proxy up every else and go from there. I acquire the rest over time, as I can afford them and/or find them. If you don't want to proxy you can try to find cheaper temporary alternatives to some of the more expensive cards (eg. Mana Drain can easily be subbed for another counter, dual lands for cheaper lands, etc).

I actually find Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, and that entire cycle, to be incredibly underwhelming. He just isn't impactful enough to be worth a slot. Yes, the things he does are useful, but he's outshined a lot by other options.
Of the New cards from Oath of the Gatewatch i would shuck a Goblin Dark-dwellers in there!
i see about 13 different cards of possibility to be cast with the Dark-dweller
Goblin Dark-Dwellers is a fine card, but I'm pretty sure that it takes the same spot as either Snapcaster Mage or Archaeomancer, and I'd much rather have both of those, I think. For anybody who doesn't want to spend money on a Snap, though, it could be a reasonable option to consider.
Unrelated to all this, I've been thinking I want to try to find a slot for Dragon Mage in here.
Dream Halls seems insane if you can manage to keep your hand full. It's really good with wheels/reanimation. Faithless Looting does what I think this deck wants to do. Draw and pitch cards to feed Sedris/reanimation for a low cost. Frantic Search It's free, fills your graveyard, and fills your hand. Smooths your deck out at the cost of a card slot.
I'm not really a fan of Dream Halls. In order to really get good use out of it you need a much higher density of high cost creatures than I'm comfortable with. Faithless Looting and Frantic Search are both fine options, and I've run them both in the past. I generally prefer to run options that are a little higher impact. Either seeing more cards or having multiple uses, like Fact or Fiction or Dak Fayden.
Hmmm...I'll have to do some heavy testing with Dream Halls. Chaining wheels into a Living Death sounds fun. We will see how consistent it is though.
For me, the latter two cards don't compete with FoF or Dack for spots but follow the same theme. The reason I value them so highly is because of their cost (1 and 0 mana), and Frantic Search has the possibility of netting you extra mana, I've found it too good to not include.
Wheel effects seem crazy good with Sedris though, I'm going to probably increase the density of those in my build.
I've replaced Coalition Relic with Dragon Mage. After going through the list several times, the Relic just seemed like the easiest cut.
I haven't actually gotten to use the Dragon Mage yet, so I don't really have any comments on it just yet, but I presumably will in the near future.
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure there's not a single card in the new set that I actually want for this deck.
The two that come closest are probably Soul Separator and Collective Defiance.
Soul Separator has the potential to be sweet, but I think it comes with Whip of Erebos for the same slot and I would way, way rather have the Whip. Separator super doesn't mesh with Teferi's Veil. The Veil lets me keep things that would otherwise get exiled by Whip, while it just makes me lose the tokens created by Separator and the creature still gets exiled.
Collective Defiance is fine for a personal Windfall with some occasional removal, but I think I'd rather just have actual Wheels and removal in those slots.
I've been fiddling with my Sedris list a bit recently. I had snagged the grixis lands out of him to rebuild my tribal Djinn deck, but recently ended up putting in a pile of budget 5-color(ish) lands in him. I have 10x lands that could produce any of my colors, all at the cost of pain, paying for their entry, or just coming in to play tapped. The mana-base also costs less than a single polluted delta.
The major issue with my deck is the absolute absence of ramp. I only run a sol ring, wayfarer's bauble, and slow creature ramp via solem+burnishedhart+dreamscape artist. My deck is hyper slow, but that's OK for the table that I play this at. Since my deck is so slow in early turns, these delayed lands hardly have an impact.
While the lands are hyper-budget, I have yet to be color screwed. With the new commander rule change in how I can now produce green/white mana, I've actually taken advantage of opponents viridian zealot and caustic caterpillar a few times already.
It has a Necrotic Ooze/Mogg Fanatic/Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker cheese combo, which is pretty easy to enable with Sedris out. If I untap with still 6-mana and have just Buried Alive in hand, I can toss the 3 dorks in the 'yard and unearth the ooze to combo off.
Most of my draw is in the Fact or Fiction variants, and that new Fortune's Favor is pretty sweet. It looks bad on the outside, but in this sort of deck it works very well.
hmm, the marchesa lists and your basic idea seem pretty close. both share a lot of cards and can play the same combos as plan B and C, too. one advantage i see here is the more reliable (but easier to hate out) reanimation.
in your primer you ignore marchesa when you compare commanders, why is that?
oh: and from the new sets, dont you want at least prized amalgam in here too?
There's no comparison with Marchesa, the Black Rose because she didn't exist when it was written, and I she never got added to the list! Just kinda fell through the cracks, I guess.
As for Prized Amalgam, frankly, the card just doesn't do anything worthwhile. He's not even really worth abusing with sac outlets, since he doesn't come back right away. If he was a bigger threat or had some sort of sweet ETB ability then maybe.
Macabre, as for your list, you would probably be best served by adding tutor. Vampiric Tutor and Demonic Tutor especially. Also, adding in a Trinket Mage would help.
So I was looking through MTG Familiar for some cards to use for a Sedris brew of my own when I realized that Identity Thief could work with this deck as it exiles the card you Unearthed with Sedris. I asked the judges in the mtg judge forums and they say this card does bypass the exile clause. The thing is would the card even be good enough to use? The card is not great and it doesn't have haste on it's own but if it survives it could be used to keep your unearthed creatures around. I do like the idea of Unearthing a Lord of the Void, entering combat and swinging with identity thief which exiles and becomes the lord and getting the effect and also leaving you with a defender at the end of turn. I will probably test the card and see if it's worth using.
To be honest, I haven't actually played this deck in a couple months. But I do still have it, and I do still keep it in mind as new things come out. Mostly it's just fallen aside because I've been tinkering a lot with other decks. In the last few months, I built (and subsequently dismantled) a Narset, Enlightened Master deck and a The Gitrog Monster deck. Now I'm onto a Maelstrom Wanderer deck. And I'm considering maybe dismantling my Ghave, Guru of Spores deck, and maybe building something else.
But I do plan to spend some time on Sedris in the near future. I've got both a Twilight's Call and a Whispering Madness sitting in my unsorted box, waiting to be slotted into Sedris for testing. And I'm almost certain going to test out that Combustible Gearhulk I mentioned.
I dunno, it seems fine.
As far as wheel effects only work for me, I'd probably rather play Chandra, Flamecaller. She draws X+1 cards, and is overall a super solid walker.
The 3-5 damage that Fateful Showdown will USUALLY deal won't generally be very useful.
Sedris is awesome, just made him my commander and hes slowly taking over my graveyard deck. My version focuses a little more on purphurous, tokens, and things like cut throat and blood artist
The unearth says that if the creature would leave play, it's exiled. How deadeye could blink a Unearthed Palinchron?
Unearth creates a replacement effect that causes the card to go to the exiled zone if it would ever go to any other zone instead.
When you flicker something with Deadeye Navigator it's already going to the exiled zone anyway, so the replacement effect doesn't actually change anything.
Ashiok, Dream Render is super, super sweet. 1) self mill (or mill an opponent to mess with top deck manipulation), 2) exile other people's yards before a Living Death, 3) prevent them from tutoring for answers.
Finale of Eternity certainly has some potential here. I like versatility, and this can either be removal or another means of mass reanimation.
Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion has also caught my eye. I like that he's got a repeatable wheel effect, plus he's a threatening body and has the potential for some mana advantage. I like him a lot.
And, since I haven't posted here in a while: from a couple sets ago I really like Mission Briefing.
Thanks for posting the primer on Grixis Control. I feel like it's misleading on what Grixis offers. The deck has an insane curve, and very few ways to deal with hate. How much does your meta play graveyard hate? In my experience, I get hated out really fast or dominated the game. Everyone has access to colourless GY hate such as Tormod's Crypt, Soul-Guided Lantern, Relic, Grafdigger's Cage. Everyone plays black/green so that adds Nihil Spellbomb/Leyline of the Void/Ravenous Trap/Scavenging Ooze, and Ground Seal.
How are you planning to combat your meta once they evolve their gameplan?

First of all thank you for this deck list, this is really a nice primer and I am doing your deck right now.
Few questions:
Got any update on this deck?
Is it competitive?
If not why would it miss to be?
Thanks for posting the primer on Grixis Control. I feel like it's misleading on what Grixis offers. The deck has an insane curve, and very few ways to deal with hate. In my local meta, I'm the UBR Reanimator/Control player, but this deck seems to lack a sufficient way to get to Plan A. I see you are playing Entomb/Reanimate/Animate Dead package (That's good to see more people realize how powerful that can be).
How much does your meta play graveyard hate? In my experience, I get hated out really fast or dominated the game.
