Ok, so here is my list. It's very raw and untested but I'd love to hear some feedback. I'm a bit concerned about the curve and the use of Pod, as has been mentioned. Also feel I'm duplicating some effects and could streamline it a bit?
First of all, what effects do you think you are duplicating too much? In some decks that could be seen as a good thing, depending on what effects and how many of the effects you are using.
Second, re: Pod, I'm noticing that you only have two 2-drop creatures in the deck. Some options I would add in your list are Zulaport Cutthroat, Vampire Hexmage, and/or Beastcaller Savant. In turn, this makes it easier for you to get to your sweet spot of having 3-drops, for the sake of your many 4-drops. The Savant in particular is strong for the sake of ramping up, and Hexmage provides much-needed utility against planeswalkers or crazy counters-based decks like Ezuri, Claw of Progress. Cutthroat just helps win games
As for cuts to your list to accommodate, I'd say pull from your 5-drops. I would cut Wretched Confluence (the card isn't as much value as you are looking for), Corpse Connoisseur (also not as much value as you require), and from there you have *probably* done enough to your 5-drop pool. At this point, I'd look at the 7-drops and, of those, cut Havoc Demon, as it is not one-sided and could detriment you at the "best" possible times (read: worst possible times, for you, for your opponent[s] to be killing it).
That *should* shore up your Pod picks for your 2-drops. You'd also do well adding in 1 more 4-drop, like Spike Weaver, in place of another 7-drop like Grave Betrayal.
One more thing I might suggest you do is look at your mana color ratios. As of right now you have 31% green mana in your costs, and an average of 41.5% being produced. While this could be good for your green spells and such, it hurts your black spells (more than you might infer offhand). Even if you have Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth available to you, it won't always be there when you need that black mana.
But before we go to fixing that, I might suggest that you add in 2-3 more lands. They could be basic, they could be otherwise. But it's definitely a good idea because (at least IMHO) 36 is a touch too low for a Commander deck. I, personally, might consider removing Farhaven Elf (Sak Elder should do more than enough for you with regards to basics), Victimize (Meren can do enough of this, even if it is nice to 3 for 2 for yourself with 1XP, and 2 creatures at the cost of 1), and Death Cloud (which I see at least as very B-intensive for what you are trying to do). I'd put in 2 Swamps and a Cabal Coffers (because black mana is best mana).
That might already fix the issues with the mana base but you'll have to edit it to see first.
Hi and, thanks for the response. Incredibly helpful and some great points to consider which all make a lot of sense. Agree with your points over the 2 and 5 drops. It's unbalanced and needs to be addressed. Provided i want to run pod though. I think I'm trying to do two things here and it's maybe best to stick to one path? Pod, needing ramp and still having the ability to work without Pod being drawn and also entomb effects, as with the connoisseur etc.. The entomb strategy is likely to be less linear (??) and still requires the curve to be fixed, no? Keen to know which strategy has worked best for others.

I really do like the value of grave betrayal though, it may be a bit too cute as you say. Although it fits more with the sacrifice board lock idea..
I use a Pod subtheme in my Meren deck, but if I don't manage to see it all game, I don't suffer without it. I see no reason to use it as more than a potential catalyst for your creatures to pop out via. I also think that in Meren, particularly, there does need to be a curve for the entomb effects to be optimal. However, if I'm being honest with you here, it's easier to get mileage out of Meren more than Pod if need be, as both are usually 1/turn and Meren also can disentomb if you're not at the point you want to be.
That being said, having both isn't bad, and Meren can work fine without entomb effects (my build lacks them entirely and still seems to test consistently well), so between the two options I might axe the entomb effects - if you need to axe anything at whatever point.
Grave Betrayal.. Ohhhh, Grave Betrayal. I really think it could be a lifesaver in some cases, but Meren usually herself wins through combat and if you have the combat advantage you are generally the one with the bigger dudes. As such, I see taking the opponents' chump blockers as a very win-more move, especially at 7 mana, a slot where you have a lot in there already to work with.

Lower curve, same level (?) of ramp so keep land count the same but adjust swamp/forest ratio and see how it looks.
I am happy that you are getting some headway on this deck! I would like to point out that Undergrowth Scavenger does very little for you except as potential Jarad sacrificial fodder, especially in a locked enough boardstate. I would find more utility in Brawn, which has the same mana cost (even down to the colors).
At this point, I might also remove one Forest for a Swamp to streamline your cost-to-distribution ratios colorwise.
Everything else looks and seems splendid thus far!
*:If you are not on a budget, Verdant Catacombs is fine to replace one of the generic fetches, and possibly one for Myriad Landscape. The fetches here will not only fix your lands, but also be sacrifice fodder in case Mazirek is out.
Another card I could see working for you if you have Urborg online is Filth. I'd been meaning to fit one in my deck, but I haven't really been looking into curving my deck too heavily for the sake of my Birthing Pod. That there's a fun 4-drop.
Mindslicer is very real, and I think I prefer it to Mind Slash. Forcing the entire table to discard their hands can put a huge target on your head, but if you're ahead that could just end the game.
I'm also surprised not to see Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet mentioned anywhere, especially if you are running Grave Pact and similar effects. Necrotic Ooze is also quite strong, though maybe less strong in your list as you would be relying more on your opponents having good activated abilities (since yours are mostly ETB abilities).

Kalitas doesn't exile what's already in the graveyard when he lands. So it's quite possible your opponent would still have things to reanimate. Not to mention, he can give you an army after a board wipe.
You're right, it doesn't really work with Rise of the Dark Realms. But the card is just unreal when you have Grave Pact or whenever you play Innocent Blood effects. Cast Merciless Executioner -> 4 players sac a creature -> You get 3 Zombies + Grave Pact Trigger -> each opponent sacs a creature -> you get 3 more Zombies. All of which you can sacrifice to make Kalitas bigger. The board presence you can develop alone makes up for the nonbo with Rise of the Dark Realms IMHO.

@Perplex: Looks good! I would try and make room for Volrath's Stronghold. This card can get you out of some pretty annoying situations. I see it in the maybeboard, but I don't really understand its exclusion.

I recently finished a list for Meren that I think will get some pretty good results. There are some reanimation targets in Sheoldred, Whispering OneUlamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and some others. An infinite combo can be done with Gravecrawler another zombie Phyrexian Altar and Zulaport Cutthroat. Lastly, I always loved aristocrats as a deck and I felt like Meren is the perfect opportunity for a competitive recursion engine. Nantuko Husk and Carrion Feeder work as aristocrat beaters while Vengevine and Bloodghast are great recursive beaters. The rest of the deck sets up sac outlets and Azazels in support of a beat down victory. One of my favorite things about this deck is that even if the previously mentioned strategies don't pan out, there is still a chance of a beat down victory given the amount of life gain and support everything else can give. I am working on writing a semi primer for the deck on the tappedout page though, so any input anyone can give would be great!

-Wurmcoil Engine actually doesn't seem that great here. It has nice stats and does produce tokens when it dies, but it doesn't have much of an effect on the board when it enters the battlefield. In my view, this makes its interaction with Meren less interesting. It also doesn't have evasion. I think Rune-Scarred Demon would be a fine replacement. It can tutor for combo pieces (repeatedly, if you can cast and then reanimate later) and has evasion, which IMO makes it a better candidate for the deck. Shadowborn Demon could also be a reasonable candidate, though in my opinion less so.
-I see the utility that Golgari Germination offers, but I think this slot would be better as something like Awakening Zone. Unlike Germination, Awakening Zone gives you tokens regardless (which, importantly, can be sacrificed to both ramp, interact with Grave Pact and also add experience counters). It's also easier to cast, for whatever that's worth

I totally understand what you mean about Wurmcoil Engine, it isn't exactly a super star for synergy in this deck. Maybe it is because of my meta but I have done pretty well with that card in the testing that I've done. It wasn't synergy that made it work well, it was just the cards value as a body and its tokens. Also you are completely right, I can't believe that I forgot about Rune-scarred Demon when making this deck, recurable tutoring is insane.
And I see your argument with Awakening Zone. The reason I like Golgari Germination is because of opportunities to get two or three tokens a turn with something like Gravecrawler or Bloodsoaked Champion. That being said, you are right about the consistency, and the added ramp is great as well. What do you think about Awakening Zone vs. From Beyond? I am wondering if the extra tutoring is worth it, maybe not if I'm only running a few eldrazi and already have a lot of tutoring, especially with Rune-scarred.

Thanks man! It's still a WiP for most of the cards but it's pretty quick and resilient. Last time I played it I made the board scoop after I dealt with 4 sources of graveyard hate, enchantment hate, board wipes, and they still couldnt keep me down!
I saw someone mention Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. I think he's a decent option if you're looking for graveyard hate of your own, but I would probably run Agent of Erebos first, because it's repeatable, and deals with everything in general.
And I see your argument with Awakening Zone. For me it's not the tutoring (I run 0 viable targets) or the Ramp (Although that is an option). It's the ability to just quickly increase my EXP counters in a pinch, trigger Grave Pact effects, etc, all at instant speed. Ramping is a helpful byproduct. They also are great fodder for Contamination, Skullclamp, Pox, Pattern of Rebirth, Black Market, Grave Pact, Evolutionary Leap, etc. They just do so much for my build. They're easily expendable and remove themselves for triggers. I wanna repeat that haha. Even lategame I dont mind seeing the card (unless I really need something in a pinch). The only issue is having to wait until your next upkeep. But when they come down early, it's backbreaking.

Changes? As is, that's how I have it. The maybeboard has alot of my proposed additions. Black Market, Massacre Wurm, Grave Titan, Corpse Augur, Oracle of Mul Daya, and Garruk Wildspeaker are all cards I'm not too impressed with. IF you were gonna make changes, I personally would start there, based on your meta and how the deck plays for you!
I'm currently using this list but realized that I might need to incorporate one or more boardwipes.
The token producers are another building site, as I want to test out Seed Guardian, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and my newly acquired Bitterblossom. Suggestions of cuts/changes?
Just a couple cards I noticed pretty early: Sylvan Ranger and Satyr Wayfinder. We have better options for ramp as is, that puts land directly in to play rather than our hand.
If you can get a hold of one, Toxic Deluge might be a good choice (you could potentially even swap it for Tragic Slip). It's a flexible wrath that can hit indestructible creatures.
Also why is nobody using Hermit Druid? This is one of the few decks where he's great but fair'ish imo. (I know he's banned in french but so is Sol Ring)
Hermit Druid makes me wary. Despite my playgroup not running much grave hate (yet), I still like to have better control of what gets put directly in to my graveyard. I do typically include it in dredge decks, by my current list is more of a value attrition deck.

Bogbrew Witch, Bubbling Cauldron and Festering Newt. A bit of a wombo combo but you can fetch with with fleshwrither. Fleshwrither can also fetch Dimir House Guard which can be transmuted into Pod. Newt can also provide starting point for pod.

You could potentially try for something like Pawn of Ulamog or Sifter of Skulls for a similar effect to Gogari Germination, while still getting tokens that sac themselves.

Changes? As is, that's how I have it. The maybeboard has alot of my proposed additions. Black Market, Massacre Wurm, Grave Titan, Corpse Augur, Oracle of Mul Daya, and Garruk Wildspeaker are all cards I'm not too impressed with. IF you were gonna make changes, I personally would start there, based on your meta and how the deck plays for you!

Just a couple cards I noticed pretty early: Sylvan Ranger and Satyr Wayfinder. We have better options for ramp as is, that puts land directly in to play rather than our hand.
If you can get a hold of one, Toxic Deluge might be a good choice (you could potentially even swap it for Tragic Slip). It's a flexible wrath that can hit indestructible creatures.
Hermit Druid makes me wary. Despite my playgroup not running much grave hate (yet), I still like to have better control of what gets put directly in to my graveyard. I do typically include it in dredge decks, by my current list is more of a value attrition deck.
