are you sure that treasure nabber is worth it in here? it doesn't have flash (and even if it had, mana abilities don't use the stack anyway), and if it were in play i wouldn't risk as an opponent to give you the ramp and/or lose the mana rock.
Well, I got a cheap Imperial Recruiter now, so I'm throwing it in. Getting ravager AND marionette is too good to pass up.
I am cutting Vicious Shadows. It is expensive and it is actually pretty hard to kill a threatening player who has 3 or fewer cards. Instead towards the future I'm looking into improving the beatdown backup win condition.
Reasoning: Hangarback already has an anti-removal clause in making thopters when it dies. It doesn't come back unlike the other cards but still has modular synergy. It also costs 2 mana and helps the beatdown plan if it comes down to it (no wincons nearby). It also supports all available win conditions.
I cut reclaimer because these days I don't often use the ability. Slith is 2 mana and the idea is to empty hand and reload as often as possible. Draw suite may be tweaked in the near future to support this route.
I found a slot for more draw. Trading Post is finally getting cut as the list gets more refined.
Out of all the draw options I'm looking at, River Kelpie is the most synergistic and durable option.
Oh yeah, there's a Mana Drain instead of an Arcane Denial in here too..
Now I'm looking for room for another sac outlet (Carrion Feeder). Adding artifact token generation like Animation Module isn't the worst here either, but Genesis Chamber is a little more efficient.
Hey, I love the deck! Any updates? I've recently started branching out from my go-to EDH deck (I've been tuning and playing the same deck almost exclusively for ~6 years) and I've been really intrigued by the concept of Marchesa Robots! The list I'm toying around with is fairly similar to yours with some notable changes. I can put a list up when I'm not making changes quite so frequently .
I've been toying with the idea of manlands in my Marchesa build, just as back-up closers. I was wondering if you ever thought to include Mishra's Factory in your builds or if you think that would be good?
It was under consideration, but ultimately the problem is that there's too much competition for colorless land slots and I can't afford any more nor am I willing to swap the ones I do have. Plus, Blinkmoth Nexus would be better anyway.
- Academy Ruins (Surprising, but I never used it. If I had Volrath's Stronghold, I'd much prefer to use that.)
- Fabricate (Actually too slow for the build these days. I care more about raw drawpower now, only tutoring usually for wincons. Also, not a creature, which is big for when you want to loop stuff. My versatility in artifact choices have also actually gone down. I could be wrong on this though as getting Cranial Plating and Time Sieve is big)
- Crumbling Necropolis (adding strict upgrade)
- Terminate
+ Path of Ancestry
+ Pact of Negation (The deck loses to combo and stuff that can ignore its resilience. Pact is solid because you almost never hold up mana.)
+ Ancient Tomb
+ Bedevil (Another removal effect that can hit artifact graveyard hate)
In certain metas, Judith, the Scourge Diva could be pretty good for shooting enemy utility creatures. Especially good against those annoying elves.
Bolas's Citadel: Powerful artifact draw engine Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge: Powerful global drain option combined with passive affinity being a very strong bonus for colorless artifact creatures combined with draw engines.
Definitely included: Spark Double: Two Marchesas make the deck even tougher than it already is.
+ Bolas's Citadel: In limited testing, this thing is absolutely nuts. You may... kill yourself playing this card. I'd be careful with it.
+ Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge: This card, in limited testing, is also nuts. A lot of the creatures don't have too much color weight and it functionally removes all generic cost requirements by the time you want to play this. If you have a draw engine to go with this then you basically go off. It essentially performed much of the role Storm the Vault did but provides extra utility plus provides the mana savings immediately. The plus 2 does a pretty hefty amount of damage. Don't ever ult unless desperate.
+ Spark Double: Copies Marchesa, copies creatures with a +1/+1 counter attached, AND it copies walkers (in csse we care). What we care about mostly is the +1/+1 counter. Copying Jhoira is pretty insane too.
- Pact of Negation: Good in theory, but we often need more than 1 counter to make it truly worth and we can't slow ourselves down too much.
- Storm the Vault: Not getting immediate value and being situationally good is not good enough. It is powerful but it kind of breaks the flow of the deck.
- Clever Impersonator: A good goodstuff card but clone with a +1/+1 counter that can act as an extra Marchesa is too good.
With Tezz out, all of my creatures except five cost 0-1 mana. You can play him on eight mana sources and basically get refunded for his cost, and then if you untap with him and a draw engine, you basically win the game. He also can randomly kill players with his + ability.
Honestly, thinking about the number of artifact focused planeswalkers makes me wonder how interesting artifact superfriends would be as a deck...
Tribute Mage is very much equal in weight to Imperial Recruiter in this deck. Both get ravager and both get one of the two best wincons. Finding cuts is VERY hard. Trinket getting ring and clamp alone makes it worth it.
A couple other cards that stand out: Goblin Engineer acts as a pseudo tutor and Goblin Welder lite. I'm trying Metalwork Colossus to fill a similar role as Greater Gargadon, and combined with the Engineer it can provide us with an early sac outlet that is resistant to removal.
Mystic Forge is another Future Sight type effect that pairs well with our deck. Not as potentially game-breaking as Bolas's Citadel, but it comes down earlier and provides good card advantage.
Dockside Extortionist I'm not sure how to evaluate this card. It could be incredible in the right meta. Treasure tokens also provide self-sacing artifacts to trigger Marionette Master and the like.
What are your thoughts on Thought Sponge? It seems like a decent card draw engine, but competes for a slot with Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain and/or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician. I do like that the sponge supplies itself with its own +1/+1 counter, and that as long as you're sacing it on your opponent's turn, it will come back with a counter.

I'm definitely going to try Thought Sponge. If sacrificed on each opponent's turn, that should be 2 cards for me each time.
What do you think of liquimetal Coating? Turns Marchesa or other non-artifacts into viable recipients of modular counters. Also randomly allows opponents permanents to be Goblin Weldered.
And I assume Dockside Extortionist is insane here?

Also, Saheeli's Directive is making it in. I'll probably cut Vicious Shadows just for being a tad too expensive and killable for its cost.
I've been getting flooded a lot with this deck in many cases. Cutting a land should be okay.
The new common colorless land is also making it in. More Opal Palace is good.
Vedalken Humiliator ALMOST makes it, but space is too tight.

I don't think it's very good. Opal Palace filters for colored mana and marchesa enters with the counter so opponents can't respond to the counter.

So, I got Bolas's Citadel out with Sensei's Divining Top in my hand one game with a Blind Obedience out, and it still did work even when you can't abuse the (pay 1 life and 1 mana, draw a card) mode.
Second time I got the citadel out, I hit the top and I declined to use that approach because well.. I had better things to do with my mana.
Like test out and tutor for Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge. Yeah, I like him a lot too. Both are keepers.

I don't have so many artifacts that Mystic Forge is insane here.
