I've had these guys sitting in my folder a little while, as well as the remnants of a previous Grixis build under Thraximundar that conveniently happened to have a few bits of planeswalker tech I thought I could use. I've played a few superfriends builds before, but haven't seen a lot under a Grixis shell, which is a colour combination I've always been fond of.
Vial Smasher the Fierce
Part of the reason I think this could work and be fun is that Walkers are generally a little pricier to cast, which plays nicely with Vial Smasher the Fierce and his ability. There's plenty of ways to drop that CMC, and I'm running a few of them here, which has made this quite an artifact-y build, too - there's easy ways to generate a bit more mana with proliferate, affinity, improvise, and delve, all of which have a presence here to some degree. None of the walkers here are enormous to cast, but I don't feel like leaning into Vial Smasher's ability all in is entirely necessary. Once resolved, they put enough pressure on the board that Vial Smasher isn't the biggest threat anyway, so I'm happy to consider him a cherry on top.
Kraum, Ludevic's Opus
Kraum, Ludevic's Opus is an inclusion in the command zone I deliberated over; there aren't really any other stunningly good partners in Grixis, but Kraum works well enough. He can swing in for immediate damage, he cantrips when my opponents play spells, and he can chump block with evasion. He's not the worst thing to see in the command zone, he gives me the colours I want, and bare minimum he's decent chump blocking for my walkers and a 5 mana burn to the face from Vial Smasher's ability. I feel like these two play well into each other, and support a superfriends shell fairly well.
I'm fully open to suggestions, because this is totally an experimental thing, there's plenty of ways this could be improved, so feel free to hit me with some thoughts.
The deck is designed to be able to play out fairly quickly and fairly cheaply - or, at least, with a speed that isn't evident in the average CMC anyway. There's a lot of synergy for Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain here, in that most of the spells I cast will cantrip her, and Bolas's Citadel pairs nicely with a lot of our cost reduction - things like Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge, Ugin, the Ineffable, Inspiring Statuary and Jhoira's Familiar mean paying less life for spells of the top of the library as they crop up. This has the potential to make a huge board state quickly.
As far as combo and proliferate goes there's obviously plenty of scope here, which is nice for some, but I think I'd prefer to avoid it. A lot of the pieces required have shot up enormously in price recently anyway (seriously, check the damn price on The Chain Veil these days), so it's a bit of a moot point. Other than that there's a couple of cute ways to make my board enormous quickly. Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain cantrips me off of most of the deck, Bolas's Citadel helps me with colour fixing, and there's a lot of cost reduction in the walkers - Will Kenrith, Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge, and Ugin, the Ineffable.
Ashiok, Dream Render is a good hoser if you want to stop graveyard strats. If you include Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God then you can get more mileage out of your walkers (especially ones like the latter that have no loyalty incrementing abilities). Teferi, Temporal Archmage is amazing with The Chain Veil and if you get that emblem you're golden. Your deck is triple-colored but I'd still include Darksteel Citadel because it's an artifact and a land and at least its indestructible for only giving (if you include Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth then it as well as your utility lands will be able to tap for B). You should definitely include Tezzeret, Artifice Master and Jhoira's Familiar. All 3 of Tezzeret's abilities are relevant here and the familiar will definitely give you some value by reducing the cost of your artifacts and legendary spells. You could also add Honor-Worn Shaku which pretty much gives your planeswalkers "T: Add ." A good card to add if you include the shaku is Leyline of Singularity. It might seem stupid in commander but with cards like Honor-Worn Shaku, Tsabo Tavoc, and Empress Galina, you could also add some spicy jank that would really give credence to the planeswalker/legendary aspect of the deck.

Yeah, I’ve just overnight traded a ton for a copy of the Dragon-god. It’s not likely to drop in price any time soon and it’s a completely savage add. The next shoe-in walker is the God-Pharaoh iteration. Being pricier to cast gives me juice for Vial Smasher, and his first ability gives me more juice, potentially, too.
I like the idea of leaning into the historic/legendary theme. It makes Jhoira an absolutely savage draw engine (moreso), and makes Jhoira’s Familiar a potentially good add, too. Leyline of Singularity is pretty hilarious jank, and I like both Tsabo and Galina, as griefy as they can be. I’ll hold off for now just to see if there’s room to squeeze this angle into the deck, but if I can it’s worth exploring.
Honor-worn Shaku is....actually kinda brilliant. My walkers sort of turn it into a second Coalition Relic for C. Which is nice considering the average cmc here is probably fairly high. Darksteel Citadel I was on the fence about because it doesn’t colour fix, but I guess it’s worth leaning as much as I can into artifacts matter. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is a solid recommend - it makes me wonder how many an average deck builder needs, I’ve bought like 3 since UMA released. This suggestion made me wonder about other legendary lands too. There’s not much of relevance out there, but Inventors’ Fair caught my eye as a potential add. Then there’s legendary other things...Whip of Erebos looks fun with Vial Smasher at least.
As far as additional walkers, I’d like to add a few more. Here’s the shortlist (money dependent for some of these):
Tibalt, Rakish Instigator - dare I? He plays well with Vial Smasher and gives me exploding chump blockers. Could be reasonable.
As far as The Chain Veil goes, it’s damn expensive these days. I picked a copy up for my wife a few years back for $5, so paying $40 now leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It’s probably not likely to be reprinted anytime soon, but I’m not sure I want to throw that much money at it. Same goes with some of the proliferate tech too - Contagion Engine is now a $30 card, and even Inexorable Tide shot up as well. This sort of stuff I think I’ll just pass by for the moment. It gets a bit combo oriented for my liking anyway, at least with the veil. I’ve got a tiny bit of proliferate in here and that’ll do for now.
Thanks heaps for the suggestions, there’s some pretty neat interactions here!
Great! I'm glad my suggestions were useful! I have an Atraxa, Praetors' Voice superfriends deck (completely unoriginal - I know) and a lot of the proliferate tech has been amazing.
Yeah, a planeswalker heavy set was gonna undoubtedly explode the price of all the cards with proliferate or planeswalker tech cards. Similar to how the legendary super type attachment to planeswalkers exploded the price of cards that care about legendary permanents.

Oh, my wife runs it, no biggie. Only major tech she's missing is Doubling Season and Pir, Imaginative Rascal - at least outside of her lands anyway. I don't dislike it as much as I used to, you just have to close out the game damn quick.

Yeah, it's totally expected. I don't expect to pick up any of those pieces in the foreseeable future. That's ok though, I'll work around it as best I can.
For wraths, Toxic Deluge can be pretty good and can scale (if you need it to). I never liked In Garruk's Wake due to the cost, but if it works for you, the effect can be pretty good. I do agree Honor-Worn Shauku is pretty good here and helps with some of the higher cost stuff. I get that you want the high cost stuff to work with Vial Smasher but I think the wraths especially should be more efficient to cast early if needed
Is Temporal Cascade more of a budget option or just based on the CMC? It seems Memory would be better here since it gets 2 casts and can be removal at an opportune time. Though it does exile itself which might be an issue.
How has Narset been for you so far? I have thought about her in my list, especially with my Wheels and Twister effects, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet (mostly because the foil is outrageously expensive). I am also not sure I want to be quite that mean in my deck since I can use her more offensively in that regard rather than just letting her sit around and stop others from maximizing their draws.
Overall, I like the deck. It is much different than mine in that mine has a higher concentration of Walkers and much fewer Artifacts but that isn't a bad thing. It looks like a lot of fun to play.

Yeah, Toxic Deluge is one of those things I'd love another copy of but just can't justify spending on. It's one of the best removals in the format undoubtedly, but damn does it need a reprint, I could use like 3-4 of them. As far as reduced cost removal I do agree - I'm definitely open to suggestions, but in a similar vein Damnation is likely off the cards, too.

Yeah, it's a flex spot for now. I do like the flexibility of Commit//Memory, that could be a decent add.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how deep I wanted to go on wheels on account of her inclusion. I haven't actually had her come up in play yet, so I'm not sure what value she adds. Ultimately she's there to even things out a little and filter my draw, but I'm really not intending to go 'full Leovold' with her. I'm going to keep her in until I can put her through her paces at any rate.
Overall, I like the deck. It is much different than mine in that mine has a higher concentration of Walkers and much fewer Artifacts but that isn't a bad thing. It looks like a lot of fun to play.
Thanks! I'll be re-balancing the rocks/walkers in the next few weeks with a few more walker adds to come, but fairly happy with how it's looking at present. I mentioned in your thread the pieces I've got coming, those should be good additions that add a lot of power to the deck without going full walker combo.
So, yeah. Big expansion of the walker suite here, and it's meant dropping a few cards I thought would be neat to play. Welder I'm a little bummed to lose, likewise with some of the bigger spells here (if for nothing else purely for the benefit of casting with Vial Smasher in play), but I think this makes the deck a lot leaner, and hopefully a bit meaner too, without devolving to pure combo. These changes pretty much take the deck to where I want to see it and playtest it for now, so hopefully it all plays out well enough.
So I got to playtest yesterday in the latest iteration. The deck played nicely, and quite quickly. In all honesty, it was a 1v1 against Roon that I ultimately lost, purely because I couldn't keep the board clear with all the shenanigans flying about. However, it was a fun arm wrestle of a game that came down to the wire. There's a few thoughts:
Liliana, Defiant Necromancer's emblem is nuts, it's easy enough to trigger, and it keeps my commanders in play for cheap.
I like Bolas's Citadel here, purely because it's not too strong. I don't have a lot of manipulation in the deck, so I can't 'go off'. It's still powerful, and Bolas themed, so I'm happy with its presence.
The deck might need a few ways to keep life totals reasonable, purely because superfriends decks can be a grind, and there's at least 2-3 strong spells that chew through life quickly - namely Command the Dreadhorde, Bolas's Citadel, Necropotence.
I could definitely see running some instant/sorcery recursion - Archaeomancer would do just fine.
Proliferate is obviously nuts, but I'm pretty happy with the balance here, in that it's not a race for ultimates.
Omens needs a slightly heavier weight of rocks to see a significant impact. I was tossing up removing this or Inspiring Statuary, as either have their pros and cons, but I think for the moment Omens was the right choice. Blast Zone was not in the right place in Glissa, whereas here I can proliferate the hell out of it, and I have a little more incidental mana to drop on it.
I've also now got a free Grave Titan, which I've seen mentioned in WizardMN's list as a reasonable deterrant to combat, so I'd be interested in how that has played out. I've been tossing up trying to squeeze it in here; either that or Phyrexian Obliterator, no one wants to be chump blocked by that thing.
Had a great playtest today against Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage, Thantis the Warweaver and Arcades, the Strategist. Had a ton of fun with some crazy shenanigans, and it ended with a victory, but everyone enjoyed themselves despite the 'superfriends bad juju' thing. Some observations:
Honor-worn Shaku was really great value. Not only did it keep Vial Smasher away from combat where needed, it pumped out around 3-4 mana a turn easy.
Mimic Vat was really good control, and more or less ended the game. I managed to imprint Kraum, Ludevic's Opus for a chump blocker in the late game, and drew into Noxious Gearhulk which got destroyed with Vat in play. I call that a misplay, and it was a devastating one.
All in all, I was pleased with the win and with some of the cards I had yet to playtest, but just as pleased that everyone had a great game, as I've been worried the deck is a little griefy.
I took apart a Zedruu build the other day. A little sad, but I hadn't played it in months - no one really liked when I brought the chaos, so I decided the sum of its parts could be better used elsewhere. Some of that elsewhere is here:
So Titan and Locust are obviously chump blockers, and they should do quite well in that respect. Both have deterrents to attacking and can create a veritable horde for me. Locust even defies removal and loots for me, so I'm quite looking forward to trying it out. Deliver is one I've discussed with WizardMN around planeswalker recursion - there's not many options available for this, so possibly getting a couple back at the worst, or several back in a good scenario is worth looking at.
Statuary was just something I never wanted to cast. It goes down a similar route to Honor-worn Shaku, but just doesn't do as much in any way. Mortars was similar - reasonable critter destruction, but very much a reactive card to run, whereas with Titan I can block where needed and swing when it suits to, so is a far more proactive option for walker defense.
