I've been an off an on MTG player for a long time. Recently I met a new group of friends that were in an EDH group. I decided to dig through my old cards (of which I didn't have many) as well as piece together a deck from some basic online suggestions. I ended up with a Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck that is fun to play during testing. But unfortunately in my group of friends it is woefully underpowered compared to the decks my friends rock. They have powerful decks like Kess, Padeem, Kozliek, Titiana, and Atraxa.
So I come to this forum for suggestions (because i simply don't know cards well enough to do what I wanna do) in order to take my Hapatra deck from somewhere around a power level 4, to something that can compete with what i feel like are at LEAST power level 7+ decks.
I love my hapatra build and have since she was spoiled, mine is aggressive and more combo oriented. Personally i feel hapatra has a lot of trap cards that look good on paper but dont do ***** in practice.
There seems to be an awkward blending here that makes your theme and support messy.
For example you have seedborn muse, why? Its a good card but is it good enough here? Do you utilize casts on other turns enough?
Stuff like flesh eater imp, sure edhrec says its in a ton of decks, but the minute a pod sees infect you will die. It still has to actually attack, which is slow, youre not running many ways to proliferate the poison counter, and 4 mana is pricey, so is it necessary?
My feeling is that she cant always push through, so think of her more as an enchantment that makes snakes and build around that. So too your opponents wont always have creatures to dump counters into so be sure you do.
Altar of the brood is a wincon, hoof is a wincon, ivy lane denizen and yorvo go infinite with the right pieces. That new drawbridge thing is good budget tech, concordant crossroads is great too.
I did not like corrosive mentor at all since the snakes are green.
Try to lower your curve, it looks fairly high.
You can get a lot of mileage out of one or two counters on things and proliferate, theres a ton of support there thanks to war of the spark.
I also feel like your mana base is messy and slow. Shes cheap and youre in green, you pretty much always want her down t2 in a pod so lands that enter tapped are just too slow. Additionally, you can bump your ramp and drop your land count for a little more consistency, we're in green after all.
Its a really really solid start, just needs some testing and focus.
Id link my build but im fat and lazy. I will say it can pump out wins on turns 3-5 pretty reliably and often wins by accident out of seemingly nowhere
I play Hapatra - she's generally one of my stronger decks. With an ideal hand I can combo out and win turn 3 and even in long haul slogs she does pretty decent. It's definitely not at 100% but is more like at 90% but it's solid enough to hang with some pretty brutal decks even though it could use some better tutors and some lightning grieves . The biggest difference I see between my deck and your's is that you don't have a way to go infinite and kill. I use drainers like falkenrath noble to achieve that along with blowfly infestation
Here's my build
the rest are basics, no tap lands - I try to get hapatra out ASAP sometimes turn 1 with the lotus petal the trick is to get the combo pieces out basically you need the blowfly infestation and a drainer like zulaport cutthroat and then you put a counter on one of your own snakes to generate an infinite drain loop.

So this deck is going with the -1/-1 counters theme. I tried to find the best interacting cards I could, but i'm sure you guys know better than me.
How would you guys go about making this deck gross. I wanna be able to hold my own in my group. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
