Hello everyone. I'm looking for advice on what Legacy deck to build next. Here's my situation:
I have been playing G/W for years now. In my local meta, I think I'm becoming known too much as "the Maverick guy", and especially since Maverick has gained so much popularity recently, the hate is becoming more common. I'm looking to build a second deck which allows me to switch things up and be less predictable at tourneys. i don't particularly care whether it's aggro, control, or combo, but here is what I'm looking for:
1. I enjoy nonlinear decks that offer many decision trees. I get bored playing decks that involve the same linear strategy every game (such as Burn).
2. I'm looking for a deck that has generally good matchups where Maverick does not. This way I can have two decks that perform well in diverse metagames. If I'm expecting an overload of combo for instance, I can use my new deck instead of Maverick.
3. Budget is not a concern.
Right now I'm thinking either UW or Esper Stoneblade is a possibility. Any suggestions?

TES or DDFT. Assuming you're being honest about "i like decision trees" and "budget isn't an issue". My only preface is not to complain about the difficulty of such decks. Stoneblade is very linear in decisions...that's not what you want.

Thanks for the advice. I was considering some type of Storm combo as one of the possibilities. I have been practicing with regular ANT builds to get a feel for Storm.
On a side note, other things I was thinking about - what about Spanish Inquisition or Combo Elves?

Sticking to the "I want variation and trees" you'd be going backwards. Without blowing this thread up, this is the rough breakdown of decisions/complicated things:
5 Color TES > DDFT > 3 Color TES/ANT (+Doomsday) > ANT (non Doomsday) > SI/Belcher > Combo Elves
*That should give you a rough map on complexity and decisions per game.
I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Yes, as Warden said, I'm looking for something with a little more decision trees than Delver. I like D&T, but again, it has generally the same weaknesses as Maverick (soft to combo).
I'm currently reading up on Doomsday and TES. Though I always thought Combo Elves offered a pretty varied gameplan since you can GSZ/Pact/Wish for not only different combo pieces but also fall back on an aggro strategy.
So unless I'm completely wrong, I'll most likely be going DDFT, TES, or possibly ANT.
Still far too pricey. I can't pay 120 for just vindicates, that's absurd as hell. Especially on this kind of budget. Plus, lets see: 4 Wasteland (200) 1 Plateau (40) 3 Scrubland (150) 4 Vindicate (120). That right there alone is 510. And that's not even going into Fetches.
Since you already have a playset of Dark Confidant and are on a seemingly limited budget, you could always play mono-black. The only relatively expensive cards you'd need to buy for mono-black would be 4x Wasteland and 1-4x Lilianna of the Veil, depending on your build. Other than those, the majority of the deck is $1-$6 dollar uncommons and a few moderately priced rares/mythics (Bitterblossom, Abyssal Persecutor). Already having the Bobs, I would imagine you could build the remainder of the deck, including Wastelands for about $300-$350.
Edit: And I don't know what you're using for a price guide, but if you use eBay you can probably get a lot more out of your budget than you think. For example, I got my playset of Vindicates (NM) for $70 shipped. Still a decent amount of money, but no where near the $120 you are quoting.

Since you already have Maverick built, you could always just throw in blue and play Bant. Bant will shore-up your matches against combo and allows you to play aggro or control depending on what you're playing against, so the games are not always linear.

That is actually a pretty good idea. I thought about playing Bant since I have most of the cards for it. I like the fact that it's very customizable to many different metas. I might give it a try.
Show and Tell enthusiasts, I have a playset of that wonderful card lying unused in my binder and I'm thinking about slowly making a Show and Tell deck, but I'm not sure which one I want to make. I was wondering if someone could break down for me what the pros and cons of each of the main three SnT decks (Sneak and Show, Dream Halls, Hive Mind) are. Budget is a bit of a concern, but I'll take competitiveness over affordability. From those decks I only have the Show and Tells, Force of Wills, every blue dual, and one each of Intuition and Volcanic Island.
Also, do you find that such decks get boring after a while? I play Storm Combo and while I accept that I downright suck at it at the moment, I appreciate how different each game feels like thanks to tons of decision trees. Do Show and Tell decks get stale after a while because you're pretty much winning the exact same way each time?

Well, in the past week I've been trying to catch up on MTG, I've also been looking for a deck to build that's decently competitive in legacy
I was especially drawn to Mono white control decks, The Mighty Quinn, etc. Can someone recommend me something along these lines?

I am a notorious show and tell hater, but this was my exact experience with that archetype. I played the Dream Halls version (one with False Cure/Beacon, one with Coalition Victory/Progenitus/Prismatic Omen), and I played a friends Sneak Show deck for a while. It got extraordinarily boring after the first 10 or so games. You're a combo deck, so you don't really care what your opponent is doing, but there's no complicated, sweat inducing math and decision trees like in High Tide or ANT tendrils. Also the lack of a wishboard makes the deck very, very linear. You're only really digging for one of 2-3 things, and the wins never really feel satisfying.
I'm a control player through and through. I never want to play any deck that is not control based, but I'm having some problems dealing with my local store's meta game. It is very creature heavy with mostly white weenie, affinity, and UB Faeries. What type on control deck would be best to compete with these heavy creature decks?
Any help would be great!

The pendulum shifts around the natural rocks-paper-scissors of magic: control-combo-aggro. Since Onslaught, the lines have blurred considerably between aggro and aggo-plus decks. From your perspective, "aggro" encompasses a whole lot more than it used to.
As of early June 2012, "control" is questionably non existant. Aggro-control or control decks featuring creatures would be closer to the mark competitively.
This isn't to say that Mono W Control couldn't work, but it's an avenue that hasn't seen much action since Quinn.
There's speculation that UWx based control or Ux control can "work" but as it stands, pure control is dead. Land.dec and Enchantress are amongst what I'd controversially dub "combo-control". You may like them, but they are not your top tier decks.
Tempo strategies (RUG, BUG tempo, UR delver) are the marquee aggro-control decks at the moment.

Clique is definitely better in the current meta. Geist is pretty embarrassing when the opponent drops a Griselbrand off a Show and Tell, whereas Clique can tear their hand apart in response. I've played both in U/W Stoneblade and generally I feel Clique is the superior choice. Also, Sword of War and Peace isn't that great in Legacy. You'd be better off running a Sword of Feast and Famine or a second Jitte (to blank opposing Jittes) IMO.
Is there any? Since the format seems to be favored by those three, i'd like to know which deck has good or at least even MUs against those decks.

That said, Aggro Loam has a favorable matchup against RUG, and a even (if not favorable) one against maverick, unsure about stoneblade, it also just so happens to be really fun to play.
Dredge has pretty solid G1 matchups against all 3, but g2 and 3 requires a lot of pilot skill, good meta decisions regarding your sideboard (or even your mainboard for that matter) and a little bit of luck (probably a lot).

You should definitely consider your matchup vs Sneak Show too since Aggro Loam is a HUGE dog to it. Chances are, you would need to tailor the SB of your BUG Control deck to fight it at the expense of a decent matchup vs the other 3. BUG Control is great at keeping your opponent's 3 CMC or lower permenants off the board, but you probably need a little more than Innocent Blood or other eddict effects to fight Griselbrand.

What exactly do you mean by "huge dog" ?
And you're right about SS vs. BUG, i think that the lack of instant speed removal (or the removals at instant speed that it uses is kinda weak against such creatures) makes it an hard MU.
My buddy at my LGS has been playing Aggro Loam while I play Nic Fit and another guy plays Maverick... We all have the same issue... We lose to un fair decks... Is disruption like Duress and Thoughtseize actually good against them or am I just a dreamer?
Ahh...I see. So, althuough it has an overall good or even MU against Maverick and Delver, it's an auto-lose to Sneak Show...
Combo has issues against strong and well-timed disruption. By disruption i mean discard, cheap counterspell or things that make their spells worse (such as Thalia or Ethersworn Canonist).
At my point of view, strong Discard (i.e Duress followed by Hymn to Tourach) can simply crush combo or slow it down enough to make an victory. Unfortunately, it doesn't apply to dredge. The only way to crush dredge is with Graveyard hate or by using cards that you generally wouldn't run maindeck like Echoing Truth. Flashbacking a Cabal Therapy also works pretty well i guess.
So I have a fair amount of legacy cards and can/have built Thresh, Zoo, Maverick and Stoneblade. I'm currently acquiring the cards for ANT but due to the availability of the cards, I'm also stuck reaching out and acquiring random legacy staples when available. What deck should I be building towards next? Currently I'm stuck between some form of combo. I think I may try to do a fallback of Dredge when I can't find the available cards. I'm really just unsure as to what I should gather next. It's been all over the place with my store credit just because the staples are few and far between. My last acquisitions have been entomb x2, LED x3, Belchers, Grave Trolls, Chrome Mox, Chalice, Candelabra and Cities of Brass.
Should I focus on just acquiring the best of whats available or become more focused on the next deck I build?
The only reason I pose the question is because of the availability of Legacy cards at my LGS. If you were to focus on building some form of combo, how would you rate them (besides Sneak Show, which I know is currently #1)?
Find a deck you like and build it, acquiring staples here and there is great but if it's not in a deck what was the point, unless you found some at a bargain somewhere.
On a sidenote: Trying to broaden my horizons a bit, built maverick (and done, I really don't want to go tally how much all the cards I have for it are worth), working on storm combo (build one, and your about 5-10 cards short of building every other one), and need a good control deck to build, preferably with Counterbalance involved, with it coming down to either U/W miracles or Thopterbalance, both seem pretty decent, miracles having done well and thopterbalance being very tunable. Anyone have any experience with the two?
