I need help building a monocolored legacy battlebox. A battlebox is a set of decks designed to be played against each other but that also reflect the format they come from well, so you can take them to a local card shop and get some games in with friends. Battleboxes are a blast and a great way to entice players to try a new format. I already did that in pauper (it’s a blast) and I would love to do the same in legacy.
The decks should be monocolored (duals and fetches are expensive and shuffling is boring) and should be decently powerful featuring lots of legacy staples but also well balanced to play against each other.
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am considering...
Death and Taxes
Mono Blue Delver
Suicide Black/Gate
Dragon Stompy
Mono Green Stompy/Natural Order Deck
...but I don't know if these are the best choices, will play well against each other, and I have no idea how best to build the delver or Suicide Black lists to keep up with the other decks.
For reference, here is monocolored pauper battlebox I put together that I want to replicate in legacy...
Mono Black Control
19 Swamp
4 Barren Moor
4 Chittering Rats
4 Phyrexian Rager
4 Gray Merchant of Asphodel
3 Cuombajj Witches
1 Gurmag Angler
1 Crypt Rats
2 Thorn of Black Rose
4 Chainer's Edict
4 Sign in Blood
3 Victim of Night
2 Disfigure
2 Dead Weight
1 Geth's Verdict
1 Pestilence
1 Tendrils of Corruption
Mono Blue Tempo
17 Island
4 Faerie Miscreant
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Spellstutter Sprite
4 Ninja of the Deep Hours
2 Augur of Bolas
1 Spire Golem
As an aside, pauper is the single greatest magic format that has ever existed. And all the decks can be built for just pennies. More people should be playing it.
Not sure Dragon Stompy is the best idea, since it largely hinges on Blood Moon/Magus of the Moon which doesn't really work in this Battlebox. You could tune it differently, but it would be a bit off from a normal list.
Ok, so I'm assuming you're looking for cheap versions, and that a battlebox isn't just for duels, that you're looking for multiplayer too?
Fair?
Yeah I would assume Goblins or Burn would be the go-to for budget red mono-coloured pursuit.
Suicide Black / Gate isn't where I would want to be.
I would consider the Pox or Reanimator archetype's. Budget versions are both possible here, and if you play multiplayer they will both have options that stand up. Waste Not combo (think Ill-Gotten Gains etc.) in MP discard is ridiculously good, like too good. And Reanimator simply has to field creatures that care about many opponents like Caller of the Pack etc.
For mono-white, I would consider soldiers. They're surprisingly effective given some have in-built taxing effects, and white does have the best perm-based hate to stop or slow down combo, storm and grave strategy.
And with blue you have so many different options.
Mono-blue Omnitell is a thing, Merfolk is strong but can be pricey. There are so many combo options here.
Do you intend to follow the ban-list of Legacy in this battle box? I was just wondering about the two copies of Gush in the blue deck. But I can understand if you decide not to, as it doesn't seem to do anything broken in that deck.

He posted his battle box of Pauper decks for example. That's why it has Gush.
I play legacy in my kitchen table group. We actually have something similar to your goals---namely cheap legacy legal decks that play against each other.
Here's what my group has (with some modifications for your purposes)
The monocolored versions of some of these days may not be be competitive in tournament. But if you wanted fun cheap legacy decks that play well off each other this worked for me.

looks good.
but stone blade.. isn't that a UW deck basically? wouldn't it be easier to shift that to a DnT with vials and thalias?
Also, how does the burn deck stack up against the other decks? i imagine it's kinda not too fun, since the deck either wins or doesn't. Aren't there other decks that would be more interactive and less 'binary'? imperial painter? mono red prison/stompy?
