I just went to SCG Syracuse and did a Legacy Challenge there. I went 2-2 and all of my game losses except 1 were not from interactive magic games, but just from either a turn 1-2 combo kill for which I had no time to interact or scooping to an Ensnaring Bridge turn three.
Match 1 vs Lands WIN 2-1 - he had a turn 2 Marit Lage which is rare for Lands and I couldn't get 4 mana turn 2 for my Jailer. Easy win. Games 2 and 3 I hate him out and grind him out and win.
Match 2 vs Dark Depths Reanimator LOSS 1-2 - game 1 he had a turn 2 Grave Titan that I couldn't deal with i. Game 2 I win, but I forget how it went down. Game 3 was super close but in the end he activated Marit Lage for a kill.
Match 3 - vs U/B reanimator WIN 2-0 - he got two griselbrands and I had a Jailer for both.. I'm alway uncertain how to side against Reanimator becuae I have so much hate but if I take out Soldiers I'm not sure if I should take out Preeminent and/or Enlistment and how many of each. It's probably correct to take out Preeminent. I had some luck on my side this match with drawing lots of Jailers, but i felt i got unlucky earlier in some of my game losses so that felt due.
Match 4 - playing vs Mentor Cheerios or w/e it's called Loss 1-0-1 - Game 1 I scoop turn 3 to a bridge I know I can't deal with, my only hope was drawing Hokori, Dust Drinker and him drawing a bunch of bridges and mentors he can't cast so I can attack, and I didn't want to wait all that time and let him see my deck. Game 2 was super long and we had a huge audience of judges and other people. He drew all four mentors and had a bridge and I had an army of guys I couldn't attack with, Suppression Field to slow him down, and chalice on 1. We ended up drawing the game but I think I could have won it to force a game 3 if it was untimed.
I'd like to have another Revoker or Damping Matrix in the sideboard. I find that Etheesworn Canonist is a bit of a weak card, because it only really hates on AD Nauseum. Reanimator can play around it, and so can elves.
I'd like to have some more answers to bridge, even one in the mainboard, because I don't want to scoop game 1 against a bridge deck.
Aerial Responder was not very impactful this tournament, but I didn't see a single Delver deck. I did actually want it against reanimator to block a big flyer to buy me an extra turn though, but I kept siding it out first for hate cards.
I'm also not sure how to sideboard if I'm taking out a lot of soldiers for hate cards. Sometimes I'm not sure if I should take out Enlistment Officer or Captain, but I think Officer is better to keep in. He does bottom the non-soldier hate cards, but many of those, especially vs. Combo, are most important to have in the opening hand or it can be too late. The tempo and uncounterable entry granted by Captain isn't so essential. Also, Officer can get Recrtuiter which can find those hate cards.
I will have to think about this more to make sure I am confident how I'm sideboarding in the future.
Now that tribal themed Commander 2017 cards are being spoiled let's hope we get a sweet at least 1 worthy Soldier.
EDIT:
I want to address the BasqueRootwalla's link to the list that placed 16th at a Legacy Challenge. I think that Vial should be replaced with Chalice for sure, but I do think that Trinisphere is decent in that list, and may be why it placed 16th. In fact I may even consider adding it.

I have nothing to offer here- I loaned the deck out recently to a Legacy newbie- it apparently went 2-2, but I have no report. I took it to play an event that was cancelled, and I took it to another and chose not to play it. All my testing has been on my other projects.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
OK! So I have an updated Soldier list. I just won a Magic League trial with the deck, albeit a small one. There were only four players, but I managed to go 2-0 and 4-0 in games. All the players are good though, at least 2 of the other 3 are judges and I know they are very competent players. I played against Death and Taxes first and then the new Miracles.
I've been looking on the Soldier forum on mtgthesource and someone posted a deck that top 8'd (second place finish).
I definitely liked a lot about this deck, and then I thought maybe we dismissed Aerial Responder too quickly. We all know that the 2/4 Flying Lifelink from Charioteers is one of the best creature options we have. Responder has Vigilance which is great for offense and defense, therefore synergizing well with Monarch. Plus it's cheaper. Add a Daru Warchief and it loses its weakness to almost all cards it was weak to before, except Abrupt Decay.
There were a few things I didn't like about the list, and one of them is the inclusion of Brimaz. I don't think the card is disruptive enough to have a real impact on the game to be Legacy worthy, so I removed him. I definitely didn't like only 2 Copies of Thalia 2.0 as well, so I made room for 2 more. I changed his sideboard up. I also prefer 19 lands and 3 Cities in my Soldier decks, so I made that adjustment. I kept the Odric, Lunarch Marshal because I actually think it could be really good in a number of different situations, a card I had looked at before but was not nearly as appealing in a deck without without Aerial Responder. It can do some big things. In the tournament I had a 3rd Warchief instead of Odric but I put Odric back in the deck. I also added my 1 of Hokori, Dust Drinker tech. I had to cut Winter Orb x2, which was all my copies and that's a bit painful, but I think it's alright because I still have Hokori.
It could be that Protector of the Crown is meant to be in the list still, somehow, but I'll be testing the deck without it, but I don't play as much Legacy at the moment. Mostly just if there's a tournament.
Hey, that's my list that won me a Bayou in that tourney! I am mostly known as the dredge guy in my local meta so I decided to surprise my friends with a new list. It was the first time I sleeved up soldier stompy and I was very surprised to place 2nd as well. There are certainly some weaknesses in the list as you have pointed out. Brimaz did not perform as expected and I sided him out almost every game.
I built the deck mostly as a meta call. This was pre-top ban and suppression field and caverns should be good as I expected a sea of miracles. The 4 palace jailers was because I was expecting a lot of show and tell as well. I did play against 2 show and tell that day so it turned out to be a great call. Aerial responders were for delvers, to buy a turn vs Ms Dark Depths, and to block 7/7 lifelink flyers. I did play against one burn deck before top 8 and aerial responders were solid. I did not like the double white though, and have since replaced them with Aven Riftwatchers. Odric was cute and did win me games but I felt it was a win-more at the end of the tourney.
In the top 8, I played against my good friend's merfolk in the quarter finals 2-0. I had no answers to TNN but my responders out raced his TNNs both games. Palace Jailer in that match was a double edged sword as we kept switching monarchs. I faced miracles in the semi-finals and went 2-1. Suppression field got there g1. Humility and planeswalkers won him g2 and g3 was a very exciting match where I armageddon after he tapped out for humility. It was a slow ping to a win but it got there. The finals was fast as I was stuck on 2 ancient tombs and a caverns out in the first game with only responders and suppression fields in hand. G2 I had 2 lands, one of which was wastelanded and it was game over when I didnt draw any after.
I'd definitely built it differently now. Post top-ban suppression field does not look as appealing but still decent nonetheless.
Hope that gave everyone some insight into the card choices.
Even post top-ban, Sfield is still good. It's great vs. Lands, good vs. Grisel brand and any deck running fetchlands (that's a lot of decks), as well as any artifact based deck. I've seen more of that Cheerios Mentor deck these days.
It sounds like Aerial Responder did a lot of work that Aven Riftwatcher wouldn't able to do so I'm skeptical about the switch. Occasionally it could be an issue with the mana, you run even more white sources with me and I haven't found the double white to be too much of an issue. You only get two turns attacks with Aven, which in longer games could be an issue. The instant life gain is really great vs. Burn and Delver, but evenstill, I'm skeptical.
How did your sideboard cards work out?
I'm interested in Geddon, Worship, Grunt, and Firewealker. Firewalker seems pretty bad to me, and I think there are better options that grunt, but I'm very curious about Geddon.

I'm trying a new build with riftwatcher and eerie interlude (spicy i know) to dodge removals and reset the counters + lifegain. Another issue that favours monowhite is that riftwatcher can be a turn 1 play with ancient tomb + mox. Though I must say that responder + warchief makes TNN looks very much less scary.
SB are silver bullets. Firewalker was a metacall for burn. I did meet burn and went 2-0. Responder won g1 and recruiter into firewalker won g2. It seems like a win-more card though and may not deserve a spot in the sb.
Geddon took everyone by surprise. It was for Lands, Eldrazi, Miracles and Nic-fit. The first 2 are self-explanatory. Nicfit + geddon = useless P.Deeds. Miracles usually save their counters for chalice and s.field early in the game, sometimes Thalias. A resolved geddon is usually back breaking. Moxes are still around after geddon and in games that i side in geddon, I stop laying lands after 4 mana sources are on the field as my curve stops at 4 (another reason why i don't play captain).
Worship is bad. I kind of regretted placing it in the sb. It does nothing against life loss combos like aluren, and against tendrils too. Against creature decks and burn I'd rather draw another soldier.
Grunt is an anti-gy tech, though slow, can be flipped with enlistment officer, and a turn 2 4/4 is a clock that needs to be answered as well.
Wondering about the new Soldier as an anti d n t card- hurts Palace jailer/enlistment officer and captain on the Solider side, so I doubt I will play it.
I like damping matrix for D n T as it hits vial, equip activations and mommy. can't think of many situations where Torpor orb effects are useful- Elves perhaps.

Hey guys, first post here!
With inclusions of Thalia, Heretic Cathar and Palace Jailer, we have seen some Soldiers decklists 5-0's.
So I tried a version of aggressive stax using this pieces, in my first local tournament, with 18 players battling for a FoW I GOT IT!
Here is my decklist, it is like a mashup with the Charlie-in-a-mox's monobrown stax with Soldiers:
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4 Thalia, Heretic Cathar
4 Lodestone Golem
4 Palace Jailer
4 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Batterskull
4 Sphere of Resistance
2 Chalice of the Void
4 Mox Diamond
4 Ancient Tomb
3 City of Traitors
4 Wasteland
4 Rishada's Port
4 Cavern of Souls
1 Karakas
8 Plains
SB:
2 Containment Priest
2 Chalice of the Void
4 Swords to Plowshares
2 Holy Light
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Phyrexian Revoker
1 Batterskull
Any suggestions please? I don't know if there are enough W sources to play Palace Jailer and Swords to Plowshares on the board, maybe cut some Caverns, City of Traitors or Rishada's?
Very strange build you have there, but apparently effective enough to take down the 18-man. SFM is a great card, and there may very well be a non-Soldier deck that is also great, since you still have the best Soldiers in the deck, but not enough to play Enlistment officer. The Lodestone and Sphere seem quite strange to me, although since you are producing a lot more manas than your opponents it's should be much worse for them. I'd probably add 2 more Chalice over Sphere but I haven't tested the deck. Good job!

@Gui Bonella, I'm also curious as to why you put have to Chalice in the sideboard as opposed to the full 4 in the main. Do you think 28 lands is too many? Maybe 25-27 is better.

Squadron Soldier. This newly spoiled card is no fit for the more stax-like lists posted here lately but it could bring new life to the more tribal versions. It trims your deck, helps recovering after a board wipe and pairs well with cost reducing soldiers. At least it seems as test material to me.
Squadron Hawk was always a good card, but I am not a huge fan of this card, the only card I'd take out for it would be Preeminent Captain. He has become the least essential Soldier in the deck, but is still a good card. This deck usually has enough CA that I don't think Squadron Soldier will be an upgrade.

I'm OK with only 2 chalices because multiples aren't good for the deck, with palace jailers you usually draw a lot of cards and the beauty of the deck is stacking (1) more to cast every time, or locking a land more with rishada/waste.
There is a problem too that many decks are avoiding 1cc, it is a bad card versus vial decks (D&T, goblins, merfolk etc) and other chalice decks obviously, witch increased a portion of the field with the print of Chandra.
I can't say if 27 mana is better, it is very hard to test it... but some lock pieces taxes you too, so you need to always be playing lands, because you may need to pay 6cc for a palace jailer.
Playing more with the deck made me think a lot about the 3rd equipment, maybe one more batterskull or fire&ice, because there are many times that i draw a stoneforge and already have access to the 2 equips, but it is when you are already winning with the monarch standing...
I find CotW unnecessary. Everything I have in my list is more important. I don't need the extra beef to win games anyways.

Was testing out Sorcerous Spyglass in place of Suppression Field and eventually ended up working on this list:
4 Etched Champion
2 Porcelain Legionnaire
4 Ballyrush Banneret
4 Daru Warchief
4 Enlistment Officer
4 Palace Jailer
4 Thalia
4 Thalia
4 Chrome Mox
4 Chalice
4 Sorcerous Spyglass
4 Ancient Tomb
2 City of Traitors
4 Cavern
2 Karakas
6 Plains
BOARD
2 Canonist
2 Jitte
2 Aegis of the Gods
3 Cast Out
2 RIP
2 Holy Light
2 Warping Wail
Spyglass is functionally similar to Field - sometimes better and sometimes worse. It is definitely easier to cast. Etched Champion feels like a baby True-Name when it's online and with 20 artifacts turning it on isn't usually an issue. Jitte main might be correct but I think I prefer having more soldiers and hate cards.

I wonder how useful worship was useful for him. I was unimpressed by worship. Cast out is non-bo with thalia and s.field. All in all I think soldiers is a very under-rated deck. Let's hope more people put up good results with it!
What do you guys think about Lotus Petal in this deck?
I have been playing this deck, the list that was in Top 8 of MKM Barcelona, and maybe it's my poor mulligan decisions, but I have been feeling like my starting hands rarely worked, because I can't seem to get to 2 Mana T1.
Last friday I talked to a guy about this deck, and we thought that this deck might have too little mana sources with 18 Lands and 4 Chrome Mox, compared to something like Dragon Stompy which has 26-27 manasources.
That is too little. I run 19 lands and 4 Mox with 7 Sol Lands in my deck. It works fine.

4 Ballyrush Banneret
4 Daru Warchief
4 Enlistment Officer
4 Palace Jailer
4 Thalia
4 Thalia
4 Chrome Mox
4 Chalice
4 Sorcerous Spyglass
4 Ancient Tomb

2 Karakas
6 Plains
BOARD
2 Canonist
Thoughts?

Sean Brown's report here:
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/this-week-in-legacy-mkm-barcelona
I wonder how useful worship was useful for him. I was unimpressed by worship. Cast out is non-bo with thalia and s.field. All in all I think soldiers is a very under-rated deck. Let's hope more people put up good results with it!
This is a list i want to try with Lotus Petal
3x Aerial Responder
1x Brimaz, King of Oreskos
4x Daru Warchief
4x Enlistment Officer
1x Hero of Bladehold
2x Palace Jailer
4x Preeminent Captain
1x Recruiter of the Guard
4x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
2x Thalia, Heretic Cathar
4x Chalice of the Void
4x Suppression Field
4x Chrome Mox
4x Lotus Petal
Lands:
4x Ancient Tomb
4x Cavern of Souls
2x Karakas
8x Plains
This is basically the MKM Barcelona MD
-1 Odric, Lunarch Marshal
-1 Thalia, Heretic Cathar
-1 Aerial Responder
-2 Palace Jailer
+1 Hero of Bladehold
+4 Lotus Petal
