I feel like reviving this thread. NO RUG is one of my all-time favorite decks, and 5 months with no posts?!?! That's just dissapointing D:. So, NO RUG players, it's time for Show and Tell, what have you been doing with the deck? What have you found successful?

I once looked at this archetype when it had the presence of Mental Missstep as the Goldberg of Combo/Control (Yes Goldberg was the real deal). Its resilience and board tempo always seemed to amaze me, I wonder if there's a chance for its resurrection one day on the "tier" scene.
In our depression of Deathrite Shaman and Abrupt Decay (not to mention Esper variants), I'm prepared for the Rogue "tag"...can Progy be considered a contender it tadem with the team?
So far my testing has only been focused on Reanimator (Show and Tell), but I'm sure after this next week or two I'll have some Esper, Maverick, RIP, Thresh, UR Delver matches under my belt...just to note I was DEFACED against reanimator...I was pissed to say the least, but I'll knock the dirt off and get back up for round 2 soon.
This deck is Sexy, there's no question about that.

In what matchups do you bring in empyrial archangel? It looks like it should shut down burn very nicely, and probably RUG. Probably buys a turn vs Goblin and merfolk.
I am wondering if Hornet Queen might be a good choice in some cases or if the angel is basically always stronger.

Hornet Queen is actually surprisingly strong against decks that try to cheat in Emrakul (although saccing 2 lands and all the tokens to block Emrakul with the Deathtouch queen can still be disgusting), while Empyrial Archangel gets wiped out.
What is the thinking behind lavamancer as a one of? Since it can't be fetched it seems a bit out of place to me. I assume it is a throw in for aggro decks and to add some reach but if there are other reasons please comment.
If you are not expecting to play a lot of zoo and goblins style decks, what is a good go to replacement? I am looking at a fire-ice, gitaxian probe, or echoing truth in that spot.
I'm playing 2 Grim Lavamancer in my list. It's really nice at slowing some decks down there's a lot of X/1's and X/2's. Besides killing Deathrite Shaman it also counters it's skill.

Pre-Ravnica, I posted that NO Bug was unviable. With Deathrite Shaman and Abrupt Decay, I have been playing the deck with a lot of success. I top 4'ed a 25 man tourney, went 6-1-1 in a team tournament, finishing in 5th (cut to top 4), and won a bunch of small 8-10 tourneys. The deck is extremely strong against any creature decks. NO package, be it BUG, RUG, or BANT is very strong right now IMO. Bant gives you access to voice of ressurgence, which could possibly be extremely strong. I like BUG personally for D shaman, decay, as well as Engineered Plague out of the board.
A couple bullet notes about the archetype:
-Shardless agent works well in the deck. Nonbo with daze so you probably need to choose one or the other.
-If playing with agent, I strongly recommend Jitte MD and 2 Arbor elves since if you hit GSZ you can still ramp.
-I will trying Ruric Thar the Unbowed against combo decks/control.
-Life from the Loam has been one of my best sideboard cards.
-I play Scavenging Ooze MD alongside Goyf. It has always been amazing. It puts you over the top in Deathrite/Goyf mirrors.
-Vendilion Clique is a house. Play it.
I haven't seen much NO RUG lately other than Reid Duke's list from the last invitational, but NO Bant is still doing ok. Voice, pridemage, plow, and to a lesser extent Knight do good work. Bant can win without NO, which is nice. Splashing for deathrite shaman is also doable. If you are committed to RUG or BUG, I personally lean toward BUG as it gives you deathrite, decay and thoughtseize which while making the deck a bit slower, are generally very strong and give you a lot of interaction.

Nice ill look into the bant build. I really dont have much desire to play with white although I can definitely see some benefits. Ive been testing both RUG and BUG lately and I have been surprised how much more fluid the red build feels compared to black.
DRS is in regardless since he functions fine even without B and he directly attacks KotR which iirc used to give this deck problems, now with DRS though a bolt handles it much better. So far im leaning towards 3 DRS/1 hierarch simply for the option of exalted off GSZ although this might not be correct.
Edit- list revised after further testing. DRS got reduced although I might add 1 back in place of a hierarch. Thoughts on this?
I would really enjoy some input from you NO RUG experts out there. Is 2 forked bolt too much and how about jace maindeck?
The manabase is starting to get where id like but I might even go -1 basic, if so which is the most essential? Feels like forest but I find myself wanting to keep my cantrips live and solidify one U towards cliques.
Yes. It's not hard to have more than 1 Noble Hierarch on play and they can make your clock so much faster with vendillion clique for example. Also, your tarmogoyfs will always be bigger than the ones from your opponent, which is nice.
I would really like to see a list with Voice and Shardeless Agent. Does anyone got anything like it?
i may start building this deck for my first leagcy deck. Thus far I am liking how it looks on paper with the current staples for legacy (cliques, goyfs) I own which also happen to be my favorite cards and considering things I would have to buy.
Keep in mind the nonland cards I would not be skimping on but would it be possible for me to build this deck with a somewhat janky manabase? I have misties and tarns a taiga but no duals. Could I play the deck with no duals beyond that taiga? I am also not going to be playing this deck anywhere outside of my lgs so I am not too concerned with playing duals.
