Have you ever play against a dread deck? There is nothing for you to counter. Since you don't have a way to stop creatures from coming into play, there is nothing your deck can do.

LEGACY PLAYER- SPIKE
trying to move into standard because more players in my area are moving that way
Here are just 3 cards your deck can't stop: narcomoeba, bridge from below, and ichorid. Go figure it out yourself. My point is that even if you bring root maze from your sideboard 2nd game, it still won't stop it because root maze doesn't affect creatures. So let's say you get a good draw with your rootmaze/stasis/forsaken city lock and beat out all the other decks, but it's still an auto loss against dread. And a non led dread deck costs about $50 to build. Slightly more than a goblin deck. So there is a good chance alot of players will be playing dread.
This is how I make mad money by doing what I already do, Shopping with Mr. Rebates. If you signup with my referral, send me an email and I will show you how to earn even more money.
Dredge decks would often slaughter stasis decks. All stasis can do is Root Maze and Stasis lock as soon as possible. But even then, it still summons creatures. The counterspells are normally easily removed with Cabal Therapy and Unmask. At that, if they move first, they may already won.
im out of the verbage loop i suppose.. i didnt know
dread
meant the same as
dredge
. sorry but ya i copy what you both are syaing. and ya thats a shawty matchup. but if i dont lose t1-t2. i can still couter draw spells although not cycling abilities and try and remove the grave... what else is there??

LEGACY PLAYER- SPIKE
trying to move into standard because more players in my area are moving that way
Back in the day (~2000) I used to love my old stasis deck, because with three cards on the board, I could virtually end the game: Stasis, Kismet, and most importantly, the win-con: Chronatog. I really dont understand why he isnt being included in most if your decklists, at least as a 2of, since you can just skip all of your turns and watch your opponent draw his deck unlikely to find an answer. And even if he does, hopefully you have a Daze or FoW in your hand to stop it.
Now that Kismet has been reprinted in blue via Frozen Æther (and one sided at that!), THERE IS NO REASON TO SPLASH ANY OTHER COLORS!!! we can run the whole deck in blue in order to maximize the # of MD counterspells in order to protect the combo. If I were to make this deck, I would go something along the lines of this (using r3p's 1st decklist as a starting point):
EDH: BBBDrana, Kalastria BloodchiefBBB GGGKamahl, Fist of KrosaGGG WBGGhave, Guru of SporesGBW RBUSedris, Traitor KingUBR WRGUril, the MistalkerGRW RGRosheen MeandererGR
Yes that is similar to my deck except I use more search and I play turnabout and tanglewire.
Tom Mee: Your sideboard needs a way to remove the opponents graveyard.

Other cards I'm considering: Rushing River: originally ran it and was one of the reasons I included Crucible of Worlds. Should it go back in? What would I take out?
Anvil of Bogardan/Howling Mine: Helps me win faster and lets me dig for lock pieces. Good with things like FoW and Foil since I'd be more likely to have a card in hand to get rid of for them.
Fetchlands: good with Brainstorm, but leaves me open to Stifle and gives me less islands for Foil and other cards that want islands.
CounterTop: Top lets me dig for pieces and Counterbalance can soft lock until I can hard lock. Looks nice. Unfortunately, my average CMC looks higher than most decks and I run more land, so it might not be as good.
Ebony Owl Netsuke: If I run Howling mine, it could be a faster win condition.
I don';t like howling mines. It allows your opponent to draw answers faster than you can stop them. It's not a requirement to win. All it does is speed up your win condition. I'd rather have 4x tormods crypt main deck than to have howling mines.

Okay - stasis has been my favorite deck since 1997. Using BoPs + Instill energy to fuel the lock, and smash with Serra Angel.
However, in this day and age there is no reason to branch out colors. I've had this deck built for 3 months or so, but haven't had a chance to play it in any serious competition, So I'm finally opening it up to random eyes to see if it's good, bad, ugly, playable, etc.
Choices:
Tezzeret over Green Splash (Garruk). With the Artifact Lands, that can be fetched for and untapped, Tezzie does everything you want garruk to do, more efficiently. Never mind he can animate your crap and smash ftw.
All nonbasic lands are able to work out from und B2B.
And so on...
In random games against bant and Countertop, it does pretty well... Should just shut down aggro. But again, I haven't had the opportunity to try it out in any tourney setting.
let me know. Thanks.

Amazing. I took a break from playing magic due to lack of time, to see that my thread has exploded. What a wonderful thing to stumble upon with my return back to playing
I've been toying around with this deck off and on over the last year, getting daily spurts to play again and ending up not.. I've made random deck attempts on MWS to try new ideas to safely keep the lock in check. Today was another one of those spurts to play, but this time i decided to check my thread. Glad i did ^^
There's a ton of amazing ideas over the past several pages. Pretty exciting to see chatter going on cause of my post.
Through reading the thread, i've briefly looked at everyone's lists and read their arguments for what makes their build good. I'm not so sure on the Green Blue version, it looks like an interesting idea. But i've been stuck on whether run Mono Blue or Blue White. My decks still built as the list shows on the website, i only changed it on paper. I like the ideas and discussion Alpha bases off of. It makes the deck preform much smoother if you only run 1 color. When i do splash, i add like.. 1 plains. And fetch cards.. just so its not super common to see that white.
Many suggestions were mentioned that i've tried. My old statis lock was Stasis + Vedelken Mastermind. I had attended a tourney where i went up against another Stasis.. which was just crazy to see 2 stasis decks face off in a legacy tourney. His was far more stable and ran off Chronotog. Since playing him, it's the build ive been far more sucessful with.
I'm gonna revamp my original deck, and keep checking this thread out. Sheesh, had i known there was discussion going on here i woulda got back in months ago

Why does no one use Crop Rotation? It is a one mana tutor for Glacial Chasm or Forsaken City, and if you're using Root Maze, then it's already in your colors. If I'm not mistaken, Glacial Chasm and Chronatog on the board together is just about an autowin against most Dredge decks, isn't it? I was reading a page back or so about how hard the Dredge matchup would be.
I was building a U/g version of stasis, contemplated doing it with a few Birds/Hierarchs and Instill Energy, but was also looking at the Root Maze/Amulet of Vigor/Garruk/Jace B. builds, with 18 or so counterspells. Would Orb of Dreams be better than Root Maze to fully shut the opponent's creatures out, as well? Or do you think Elephant Grass from the SB can keep Dredge off its side long enough that we can board out Root Mazes for it?
Would Orb of Dreams be better than Root Maze to fully shut the opponent's creatures out, as well?
i think that orb of dreams would only be necessary if you were really afraid of dredge or you desperately needed more maindeck root mazes.
and on the point of elephant grass, i think that tormod's crypt will probably be enough hate while still getting around stasis (elephant grass would likely be better though, if you intended to skip all your turns with chronotog...)

i think shackles might be a decent addition here. stifle is in side for combo since you can just stifle the storm. other things are kind of self explanatory
Changed my Stasis around. Haven't had a real chance to slap it down against a serious group of legacy players.. so i don't have solid results to back the idea with.
I've slowly changed my Stasis build back to the way it use to be, prior to the post i made on here. The post here was after a swift beating playing another Stasis deck. I modified my version, and posted what you saw on page 1. I feel, even through the counterspells, that decks could find answers even after i setup Stasis.
I feel this version lacks on the counterspells, though. I wanted to go back to my Wish build, because the toolbox to fight through a situation was always wonderful. White offered some great ways to rebound from a bad moment, and gain ground again.

Chronatog provides the win by skipping your turn to completely deck your opponent. If shuffle effects or other things prevent you from winning, an Iron Maiden or other similar card can do the trick as well.
after finally playing a stasis deck in a tourney setting, i feel standstill is more awkward than helpful.'
Your opponent either sees you aren't doing anything, and/or can't - thusly making you break your own standstill, which sucks. Also any aggro that gets down before it, will just be a beatdown...
Also - you are playing green, making it easier to do the silliest combo in the game right now... Worldly tutor/living wish, Emrakul - then mystical tutor up a show and tell.
It's just a way to speed up an incredibly slow - yet powerful deck.
Quirion ranger is a great idea.
Daze is also a very useful counterspell in this deck.

I'm just not happy unless I can smash face with Demigods.
I still have my stasis deck and I made very little changes to it since I played it ten years ago. No creatures, running artifacts, howling mines, bounce , the usual stasis with UW with enlightened tutor.I don't really play it in tournaments because I have other decks like reanimator and Ant etc which are better than this deck. I play it casually and if I feel nostalgic and wants to play a classic deck on today's magic meta.
Here are just 3 cards your deck can't stop: narcomoeba, bridge from below, and ichorid. Go figure it out yourself.
