After doing a midnight release it would appear not too many of the cards in this set will see major play in legacy. Just a few random upgrades like that artifact/enchantment hate card for GR that shocks an opponent.
Maybe Thassa could be tested in merfolk? I doubt it's good enough though, even though she is pretty sweet.
Yes, I agree with you that Chimera can be hated by DRS and RiP. So can Goyf and Goyf is still beeing played in vast numbers. And with Chimera you get trample and evasion for just one more mana.
Maybe you can't compare Goyf and Chimera in all functions, but with both you get a dumb beater which is dependent on untouched graves. Both got their individual merits over the other and because Goyf is still played with all the available hate, I think so would Chimera.
I mean, it looks ok, and it *might* see some play as a 1-2 of, but it still feels like it has enough flaws to prevent it from being a huge roleplayer. 3 cmc is huge in legacy, especially in temp decks with like, 18 lands. And 3 toughness has its weaknesses in the form of bolt and not being able to block as much (to be fair, 3 toughness is better than some of the established legacy creatures).
Lol, UR Burn uses Snapcaster and Grim Lavamancer...
Yup. In other words, it gets weaker. In other words, Snap and Grim have dis-synergy with Spellheart Chimera. For the record, I do like Chimera and find it interesting on paper. I just don't think it'll be that great in practice.
I am dumbfounded that folks are writing off Swan Song. It is the real deal. Saying it is worse than Spell Pierce / Flusterstorm / Envelop in a void is insignificant. It is not unthinkable that a metagame could exist where this effect, as a hard counter, is preferable. It seems very good in combo mirrors, and against control decks it won't lose value as the game progresses. It has potential to see play similarly to a Pact of Negation used defensively, but does not insist you win the game immediately, which could be critical in a deck like Reanimator.
I also think it's interaction with Abrupt Decay would not be irrelevant in a Team America list. After opponent declares attackers, Abrupt Decay something and Swan Song your own Abrupt Decay to get a Bird at instant speed.
It's a good card. No lie -- however, I'm not sure it's "all-star" material. Just good -- as it has a lot of competition, each with their own perks.
I think it will see decent amount of play, depending on what the deckbuilder wants in a counter spell.
I'm a little lost on what you are talking about with Team America and Abrupt Decay. Unless I'm mistaken Team America is UWR, which means you wouldn't be able to cast Abrupt Decay without a random splash for green. Are you talking about BUG? Also, I guess this is more of a rulings question, but are you even allowed to target an uncounterable spell with a counterspell? Or is this a case of, "Yes you can, but it fizzles/does nothing (Gives you a 2/2 Bird in the case of Swan Song)."
General Question to MTGSalvation readers: How annoying is the 2/2 Bird? I mean, I can see it being pretty crappy, if you counter something and then don't do something productive from it -- and it crashes into you for like, 4-5 turns (and God forbid you cast 2-3 of these things and don't answer the repercussions of your actions). And I guess dealing with the 2/2 directly is kinda awkward, since you'd have to blow your own spot removal on it. But do no deck run something that can mitigate the 2/2 at all? Like sweepers or just better quality creatures that can block it?
I guess my point is, in the decks you'd want Swan Song, I'd imagine that you'd be going off that turn or soon after (as in, solid Combo card). I really don't see it being that much worse off than its competitors (Spell Pierce, Flusterstorm...and I think that's it -- maybe I'm forgetting one).
what a boring set. though i'm surprised no one is talking about the one mana enchantment that shuts off activated abilties
Isn't Pithing Needle better on most every account? You can hit non-creatures including lands, so long as you call the name right. And you'll hit multiple copies too possibly. The only upside Viper's Kiss has is the -1/-1 which may be able to kill a Dark Confidant or Grim Lavamancer or something...but that's about it. Eh...Ok the other upside is people are more prone to playing artifact hate, as opposed to enchantment hate -- slightly harder to deal with. But of course, everyone knows that most artifact hate (the good ones) also kill enchantments.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.

Team America's usual colors are BUG, the story of the deck's name goes way back to completely inscrutable origins. So I've heard, it was once a joke among European players who put together a BUG tempo deck using cards American players were neglecting. It was completely all-in on the tempo plan.
The WUR decks are often misnamed Patriot Delver, though I prefer French Delver, Napoleonic Delver, Jacobin Delver, Viva-le-Delver, and so on. Any country with an appropriately-colored flag (and an appropriately amusing political event) will work.

What's wrong with calling WUR Patriot Delver? How is it off? Lol I like Napoleonic Delver.

Swan Song is very good sideboard tech. It's a one-mana hard counter to Show & Tell, Sneak Attack, Omniscience, Blood Moon, Dread Return, and a helluva lot more.
