So, I've been playing dredge for a month or so now, but not on MTGO, so I haven't gotten much practice. When I play dredge, I often want a more aggressive beatdown deck game two to hopefully outpace their hate. Then, come game three (if I lose), I would like to sideboard in anti-hate once I know what hate they include. Now, if only to know what to include for such a sideboard, and what to sideboard out. The latter is the hardest part; no one want to side out any part of a stratagem as complex as dredge. I create this threat to hopefully facilitate a discussion that benefits dredge players such as myself. Let's get started.
I play a LEDless Dredge deck. I prefer a speckled ax, mainly because I don't exactly have the funds to create a flashy deck. If you are a reader who is unfamiliar with the dredge mechanic, look through these decks, then look at Lion's Eye Diamond and Faithless Looting. Or just google(1) Lion's Eye Diamond Dredge MTG.
Note the absence of Undiscovered Paradise in the Main Board and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite in the sideboard. The reasons for this is merely due to a lack of cards. (Of late, I've been saving up for a Mono Black Infect deck for Modern. I'm cheap, plus I do not believe many people will be as prepared for it, so I should have the edge games 2 and 3). Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. I greatly want to increase the aggression of this deck in the sideboard while also having a few answers. I'm considering cutting Leyline of the Void for Surgical Extraction, cutting Chain of Vapor for Bloodghast, cutting a single Ashen Rider for an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, and cutting Nature's Claim for more of Pithing Needle. I also want to test Squelch and Bind, though the two mana does not seem worth it. It would be hilarious to see someone sacrifice a Nihil Spellbomb just to see it fall to Bind followed by me dredging 6. Oh well. Better not get caught up in unreasonable dreams.
Anyhow, what tips and tricks do you have for sideboarding? What to side in/out? What's an effective sideboard against your current meta? What should I change about this deck while still keeping it LEDless? Why is LED Dredge superior to LEDless? (Well, LED Dredge is incredibly explosive and therefore has a much higher chance to win). What dredge deck do you currently run, what problems do you have with it, and how do you react to your most difficult match-ups? All of these questions are various topics that I would love to discuss in this thread. Though, since this is a "help" thread, I would favour the first three questions the most.
Cheers, &c.
