Heya, scottjhebert has graciously stepped up to administer an 8-way draft, so it looks like we will run one, assuming there is interest. Hence this thread. We should require 32 players in total.
What is an 8-way draft, you ask? An 8-way draft is a forum draft where each seat consists of a number of MTGS users. Each team is given access to a forum that members of the opposing teams can't see, where the draft organizer posts packs for the team to discuss. The team is given one day to select a card, at which point another pack is posted. The draft portion should take a little over a month (the last few picks in each pack are usually auto-picked by the organizer), and after it is done, matches may or may not be played out between the teams, we'll see. This has often been a little difficult to arrange, so we'll see what we opt to do.
What's required from you: at minimum, a few minutes of your time on most days to post your opinion on which card to take. In a perfect world, check in a few times so that you can actually participate in discussions.
In any case, if you're interested in this, please say as much in this thread. It won't happen if we don't get enough responses, after all.
Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
However, I was disappointed that the previous 8-way draft didn't inspire more post-draft discussion and analysis. Whether or not we play any games, would it be possible to set up a postmortem thread for discussing what worked, what we'd pick differently in retrospect, and how our card evaluations have evolved since the draft started?
salmon: I have no problem with postmortems/AAR/etc. The issue has always been that, if people want to play their decks, the AAR needs to wait until after the games are played. Historically, it has been very difficult to get the games played in anything like a timely fashion, and people lose interest in the entire exercise if they have to wait too long. This is why we are working to set up alternatives so that AARs can occur.
