So I've been collecting older boosters for a while and want to do a chaos-sealed event with friends and acquaintances.
Thing is... How much should I charge?
It's a mix of stuff:
Original mirrodin
Scars of mirrodin
Ravnica
Guildpact
Dissension
Champions of kamigawa
Betrayers of kamigawa
Saviours of kamigawa
Planar chaos
Shadowmoor
Eventide
Alara reborn
Conflux
Innistrad
7th edition
8th edition
Xth edition
Odyssey
Invasion
Dragons of tarkir
Born of the gods
+A few others
Out of 60 boosters, only 2x born of the gods and 2x dragons of tarkir are from recent sets. The rest is innistrad or older. Most of the boosters are worth a fair amount.
Any idea what the going rate for something like this is? Six boosters plus prize =??
The average price per booster seems to be around $8-10. I'm not sure I want to charge $60 for a booster sealed thing. It's difficult.
(for the record I have no interest in phantom drafting and keeping the cards)
1. How are you coming up with those prices? Is that retail? Is that how much you could actually sell them for today? Just speaking anecdotally I know my local store stocks old packs like that and has a very hard time moving them.
2. What are your motives here? Looking to turn some packs into cash or have fun?
3. I can't say most of those look like very exciting packs to open. Personally I would love to do a draft like that, but wouldn't pay anything close to $60 to do it for unexciting packs.
Why not do it for free on the stipulation that you keep all of the cards? I'm almost certain everyone would have more fun that way. Nothing is more "feel-bad" than having someone (a friend of yours, no less) pay an exorbitant amount of money only to randomly draw Saviors of Kamigawa/7th Edition/Dragons of Tarkir. In any case, I'd wait until you collected more boosters from older sets.

Out of interest, what would be more exciting boosters?
I mean, ravnica, alara, innistrad, mirrodin, kamigawa, Shadowmoor etc are all examples of amazing limited formats?
I've got no interest in "lottery" boosters which have a crappy limited experience.
But you're right on the price thing. I just need to gauge what's a sensible amount for people to pay (because paying the market value isn't really an option)

By exciting boosters I'm talking about opening something of value, not how good the original draft format was. Although it is worth noting that due to the nature of an event like this how good the original draft format was is essentially meaningless, as this will play nothing like that. The reality is that you are going to get a pretty weird limited experience from this even if you pick only boosters from great limited formats, simply because those formats tend to revolve around synergies that won't exist when you only get 1-2 packs from that block.
IMO if you want a quality limited experience you would be better off hand-picking packs that go better together. Draft multicolor-oriented sets together. Draft the old and new mirrodins together. Draft the tribal heavy sets together.

That's good advice and exactly what I was hoping to get from the community.
I'll hand-pick suitable draft or sealed sets of boosters and have a big selection. I'm a bit worried about power level so I'll look through the set lists and see what might go with what.
With sealed i'm guessing 3 or 4 boosters sticking to a theme (i.e. tribal or multicolour) and a the remaining ones random others to provide variation and potential fallback options.
I'll bat some ideas around with my other friend who's adding boosters to the collection and see what we can come up with.

Putting them together in some semblance of order kinda defeats the purpose of a Chaos format, doesn't it?
Another interesting idea would be a 'Sealed-Draft' in which each player cracks 3 packs and then does an 8-man draft. One problem I've found with Chaos formats is total lack of synergy, but with a 3-pack sealed, you get a decent idea if there is any synergy with your packs (maybe, maybe not) and an idea of what your strongest colors are. Then you can select cards that fit your existing pool, PLUS everyone gets to handle every single pack in the draft.
As far as what would be a fair price, I'd place it somewhere just below what market value is for a 6-pack event right now (~$25) since most of the cards are going to be proxy fodder. Sounds fun.
