My friends and I are doing a sealed draft where we can pick any set to go with, however they aren't very practiced, anyways. What set would you recommend me going to destroy the rest of them?
3x Fate Reforged. That set has the highest density of bombs in recent history, and most of them are generic single colored or two color bombs that will fit with cards in most other sets.
It would go well against most other sets? Essentially if you had your choice choosing any set for yourself to do sealed with, it would be fate reforged? (I'm talking everyone chooses 6 Booster packs from any set/sealed)
Ah, the words "sealed draft" confused me. I thought you meant draft, in which case FRF is good due to high density bombs.
If you really wanted to destroy them and do not care that much about spending a lot to do so, then I think 6x Alara Reborn would be the best to go with. That set was notorious for having the highest power level in that block by far, and I think 6x Alara Reborn would just completely destroy most other configurations due to the sheer card quality in the set (Behemoth Sledge, Bloodbraid Elf, Bituminous Blast, Jund Hackblade cycle, etc.)
If you were going for a more budget option using just the recent sets that won't cost you as much, then that gets way trickier. While Origins was fast, it's hard to say whether that was because the overall power level in the block was higher, or if creatures were so small in the format that there just weren't any good defensive options. Having thought a whole 10 minutes about it, I think my pick would be something like 4x KTK, 2x FRF. Khans block had pretty high power level overall, and you want the fate packs to supplement the khans packs with bombs and random stuff that depends on multicolored synergies.
Torment - A set that is literally unbalanced in favor of black in terms of both card count and quality. With 6 packs of Torment you will be virtually guaranteed a strong black deck, likely with the opportunity to go mono-black if you want to. Some great commons include Crippling Fatigue and Faceless Butcher.
Urza's Saga - If you want to mix it up a little you could combine some Urza's Saga packs with your Torment packs, as Urza's Saga was loaded with some ridiculous black commons. Befoul, Expunge, Corrupt, and most absurd was Pestilence. If you are heavy black (which you could be if you had 3+ packs of Torment) then cards like Corrupt and Pestilence will be on par with the bomb rares other people open.
Thanks for all the comments. After doing a little research, I decided to go with original zendikar. Synergy is excellent, plus it's highly regarded as one of the best limited sets. As for choosing zendikar, what should I be looking for?
With any set at my disposal I would go MM2. That set was very deep, very bomby, and had strong synergy cards that were somewhat interchangeable between color pairs. MM2's "weak" cards that are often excluded are strong and would generally be included in normal limited environments.
