I think Negate here. Don't want it that bad, but it beats the other garbage we are unlikely to play in the pack. I suppose Wild Guess could end up being playable depending on what we get later, but right now our red is 2 Shock, and does not require a heavy R commitment, I'd rather keep it that way.
Let's run far, far away from blue. The only playable blue card we've seen since pick 2 is a single Seacoast Drake a few picks back. We do not want to go to there.
Blood Bairn is the best card in the pack, and Wild Guess isn't completely unplayable, but I'm going to go ahead and vote for Rod of Ruin. To be clear, I very much do not want to maindeck it, but I think it's actually a fine sideboard card in this format. Some color combinations have a tendency to produce decks stuffed with 1-toughness creatures (UR comes to mind), and Rod seems like a reasonable sideboard card against those decks.
I'm still not sure we'll wind up green or blue or something else in the end but I'm fairly certain we will be red. Wild Guess.

"A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus: 1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect? And he will probably ask himself two more: 1. Could I put it more shortly? 2. Have I said anything that is avoidably ugly?"
Blood Bairn with a large slapping sound. It's power level is way ahead of everything else, and BR sac is a thing with this baby as the #1 engine. Wild Guess is a hard-to-cast double-loot, and I agree that U is a broken ambition. Rod is fine, but why take a sideboard card when you can take a key card for a potential archetype?

Blood Bairn, most powerful card in the pack, still leaves it open to other colors if no black shows up. Second choice would be Negate if we want to stay blue.
I may be killing people by me saying this but for of ruin in my opinion can be real garbage. I'd rather have a negate or scour.
It my drafts I have been consistently passed scouts all day. You can easily run a super control removal mill deck which I recommend. And if there is a traumatized opened i guarantee you pick 8 it will still be there. I ran a mill deck once and let me tell you. Watching them mill their win cards feels good. On top of that you can easily run 3x essence. Scatter and never and even a cancel with some great burn cards to kill creatures.
On the other note negate me good to run at least one in control burn and cyclops goes well with your fliers you will inevitably pick up. He cost a lot but you won't see many red creatures being ran except hell cats and maybe short cutter.
I vote scour or negate As I love control mill in draft.
I don't see any reason to take the Blood Bairn here. We haven't seen anything to make us think we might end up in black, and since our deck so far is so light on creatures, it's even more of a stretch that we'll ever play it.
It's a pretty miserable pack, so there's not much sense in worrying about signals. We might as well just take one of the on-colour cards. Negate is a decent sideboard card at the very least. Wild Guess is the other card worth consideration.
I still say negate. I mean you'll see plenty but always have one if I'm going control. I mean people always say negate and cancel suck but they really don't especially if you have a wall of frost and a hand full of tomes. Bad pack though. Stay on color with red blue in whatever way or nat is good too. I've never had a need to use it yet.

My reason is that it's a higher payoff gamble.. which is what I like to be doing in the first half of pack 1. As people have pointed out, it looks like a safe bet that U is gone. The other cards in consideration are fine 23rd cards (though toodumbtopost makes a great point about Rod + Shock.) But if I'm taking 23rd cards p1p6, I'd sooner drop and go watch Breaking Bad.

It seems to me that we have no idea what colors we're going to end up in at this point. Blue has dried up, we've seen some late green, but we've also passed a lot of it. And even our red isn't locked in as a main color. Given this (and my inherent irrational dislike of Wild Guess) I think the pick is between the risky high-upside Blood Bairn and the underwhelming but safe pick of Rod of Ruin. If we'd seen any Tenacious Dead or Act of Treasons that might table, I'd go for the Bairn. Since we haven't, I'll vote for the Rod of Ruin.
We haven't seen any playable blue in several picks. I wouldn't take Negate just because "it's in our colors," particularly since we don't know what our colors besides red are yet (as evidenced by the number of people clamoring for Blood Bairn). I'm not particularly fond of being in four colors by the 6th pick and outside of the Liturgy in pack 4, the black hasn't been very good to this point. Most of the time, I don't want to play Wild Guess. That leaves Rod of Ruin as the only legit option left. I'm not sure why so many seem to be afraid of it given how bad the rest of the pack is. Nothing else in this pack will make our deck unless we randomly jump to black after seeing zero signals for it. Rod probably will and will be dependable. We have no idea what we're doing beyond Shock. We could use dependable right now.
Rod of Ruin Would probably fit best into what you are building, Cyclops Tyrant probably wouldn't be a horrible choice ether. But the choice would be between Rod or Bairn

My opponent scooped on the spot.
Seriously, though, if we're on the all-Shock plan, then I really don't mind having access to a Rod as it makes Shock way better.
