Last night at my FNM, I got put into a draft pod of 11 players. At first I didn't think much of it but after what was quite possibly the weirdest draft ever I wonder if making pods bigger than the standard 8 is a good idea.
Do you all frequently run into situations like this with big draft pods and what are your thoughts on it?
It's weird and non-optimal, but it's the only choice when the number of drafters isn't evenly divisible by 8. The worst is an odd number, since it means one person gets a bye each round.
Assuming even numbers of people, here's how I see it playing out:
6 people - one pod
8 people - one pod
10 people - one pod
12 people - two pods of 6 is better than one pod
14 people - one pod of 6 and one pod of 8
16 people - two pods
Basically every factor of 8 is even 8-man pods. When you're two over or under, make one pod a 6 or 10 man pod. When you are 4 over, you need two 6 man pods.
