The deck doesn't look very good... but it won missing a lot of very good cards and reasons to be red/blue. I had little hard removal or card draw. I spent august trying to play the hard control blue with all the good cards but it just didn't work. Except this rag tag deck did.
Match 1... R/B sac deck.
Game 1 I got stuck on 2 lands... with 7 3 drops in my hand.. maddening.
he played devils, spirit and mintaur.
Side out the raider for thunder strike.
Game 2 I play a goblin shortcutter turn two.. he replies with child of night.. which I depervation. I then countered anything else he played he got a shiv's embrance onto his child of night and threated to undo my damage with life link.. however I used frost breath on the critical turn and killed him with the goblin and a minitaur.
Game 3.
I countered everything he tried to play except his 1 lonely blood brain. that couldn't get through my fliers. which killed him.
Match 2..... R/G Beats
Game 1.
I manage to counter his first couple of big plays. play a flyer then young pryomancer + Molten birth getting 6 tokens. I beat him down with them. He finally landed a mauldahorn and started going at me but I was way ahead on the race and let it hit me.
Game 2.
He when elf into boar but my hand was just all counter spells depervation and time ebbs. I got rediclously lucky with Molten birth getting about 8 tokens and kill him with them.
Match 3. G/U beats.
Game 1.
This was the closest game all night.
I landed an early water servant.
Using counters and time ebbs to push through damage.
He stuck a rootwalla and it came to a grinding halt. I tried to attack in the air but got a sea kited.
He played fireskrieker onto his rootwalla... I had molten birth tokens to block.. for two turns :S.. I won the flip again but it ran into a main deck negate the next turn.
a canyon minitaur helped me hold the ground and hit again but he had a phatom warrior and now there was a real race. He was able to switch the shrieker between the warrior and the rootwalla.
I had him at three. with a water servant and a minitaur.
I tap down only his messanger drake and not his seakite and swung.
he attempted to equip everything to the messanger drake and 1 shot me. I tried to tap it down.. he had ranger's guile.. but I had cancel. I win the race.
Game 3.
Slow start for both of us. He counters my first play. but I counter his back. tapping him out an allowing me to play mindsparker. he plays rootwalla but I time ebb it and hit.
he plays drake after drake after seakite after blocker and blocker we did ignore the time call since everyone else was still playing so it was actually a draw :(... but mindsparker with Shiv's embrace was my win soon enough.
Why did this deck work where Draw cards, claustriphobia, removal, seakite decks didn't?
I have a natrual tendancy for U/W flier decks.. but white is so weak that it isn't very good in this format. Is the U/R Evasion deck the U/W flyiers deck of this format?
The drop in speed between formats is huge but I have done much better with more agressive decks in M14 thant he blue ones... although I am not sure I call this agressive as such.
Ten creatures? Eleven, if you count Molten Rebirth I suppose.
The difficulty running that low a creature count is that you've just made each of your opponent's removal spells far more powerful.
At a minimum, I would suggest:
-2 Cancel
+1 Blur Sliver
+1 Academy Raider or Firecat
You have a problem with X/1 toughness...as in, you have too many of those. However, you have enough top-end (Water/Air Servant) to let you squeak by if you survive past turn four.
With so few cards that can win, I understand why you think 2x Cancel is a good idea. I think you would have been better off with 2x decent creatures. Unfortunately, you didn't really have any.
Not to be rude, but getting 8 tokens from 1 Molten Birth is incredibly lucky and without plays like that, could you have won?.... You can't really expect those kinds of results so I wouldn't ever recommend someone to draft your deck again.
I think the deck looks fine. Congrats on the win. You've got a low curve and a nice suite of spells. I am not always comfortable running that low of a creature count. I probably would have looked to replace some combination of Sensory Deprivations and/or Cancels and subbed in the Firecat and a second Raiders. But either way, you got there. Great work and good luck next time.
Thanks for the entertainment. While I'm being tongue in cheek and making fun of your post, the underlying message is... could you spell check? What's the point of card tags if you mistype half of the names?
- What's a mintaur exactly? A mint-flavored bull?
- You won on the back of a minitaur? The cute little ankler biter.
- Unless you're a two-headed giant, yes, blood brain tend to be lonely. Although bloody brains tend to be a fatal condition, aren't they?
- You had two, two!, senory depervation? What are they, I wonder? Senior, previously pervert creatures? How does one de-pervetate someone?
- Claustripobia. This one is going in all directions. Claus tri-pobia? And jovial elder accompanied by three, err, newt/frog hybrid?
- Yep, as you've identify, a pry-o-mancer can pry a victory from the jaw of maul-da-horn. Who likes having his horn mauled anyway?
- When an elf into boar, it gets red-i-clous indeed.
- Yes, kiting a sea hurts. A lot.
- Phatom warrior? That's an heavy attacker, right? One would think a phatty like that would be no match for minitaur.
- Sorry, I have no lame joke about acadmey nor messanger. I'm sure there is a lousy pun laying in there.

We played draw go.
I drew young pyromancer.. I made a mistake and didn't attack.
He drew an armored cancrix and I could no longer get through... he promptly won.
Game 2. Sided in Shiv's Embrace he didn't appear to have any non counter removal.
acadmey raider turn three and went to work. he was flooded and didn't get anything into play. I had counters.
He tapped out for a messenger drake and I landed an air elemental.
I tapped down his fliers and hit with mine.
He hit me back with his.
Playing haunted plate mail and fireshrieker whille I was tapped out.
I tap down only his messanger drake and not his seakite and swung.

I get a Shiv's embrace on to my Mindsparker.
