Thought Scour may only see fringe play, and may not be good enough for Storm decks, but I would not dismiss it so quickly. It's a cantrip that fuels the graveyard very efficiently. I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a whole new deck type at some point. Maybe, maybe not. Either way, it's not
"garbage".
Same with Tragic Slip. It might not see play in every deck that wants black removal, but 1 mana to kill your non-Emrakul fatty is REALLY good. There are enough X/1's to make it fine even without Morbid, but if your deck is designed to turn that mechanic on somewhat consistently, you're talking about a very, very efficient removal spell.
Also, the "worse than Goyf" argument for Strangleroot Geist is pretty weak as well. A lot of things are worse than Goyf, but that doesn't make them unplayable. Many times, Goyf is only a 1/2 or a 2/3 on turn 2 anyway, making Geist just as good if not better for an aggro deck. Again, it probably won't be universally adopted, but I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly. "Can be run alongside Goyf" is another way to look at this card.
what you quoted was actually about about why fateful hour is not a good idea for modern, I did give my opinion of the strengths and weakness of each of the cards you mentioned above in the rest of what I said. Also typically it fills the same role as goyf, is slower, and harder on the mana base. In decks that are more than two colors(even in decks that are two colors) it is probably going to be a 3 drop more often than not. Mono-green wont be happening. GB has bob, GW has a plethora of hate bears(or they ignore the two drop slot and focus on the three drop slot with 6-8 1cmc mana dorks)
Green red could run it, but your probably faster and better going red white aggro. Typically when looking at formats with larger card pool it is what can I replace. This is not a good replacement for goyf. Will it see play in modern??? sure if goyf stays ~100$ this is probably the next best green creature on the market that cost 2. Will it ever be optimal...probably not.
Strangleroot Geist is just different from Goyf. In Modern, Goyf doesn't like to come down on turn two. You'll actually drop this guy on turn two and swing. He's a bit of a sweep-deterrant, too. Doesn't get as big, of course. Doesn't survive a bolt even after undying. I don't know. I think it's more fair to compare him to kitchen finks which does see a lot of play alongside goyf.
Kitchen finks is so much better though. Sure it isn't as aggressive, but that is the point. In jund goyf can easily be a 3/4 on turn 2 or 3. for 3 mana(only 1 more) kotr can easily be a 4/4 or larger on turn 3-4. Doran(which might start seeing play) is essentially a 5/5 for 3.
My point in all of this is the biggest reason for a creature in modern is utility or the ability to win in the trenches. Green based aggro(in modern) is too slow for SrG to matter. He will dumped in decks when goyf isn't affordable. Some of these will probably win daily events and people will make a big deal about it. Happens all of the time. It is never the budget card that wins the day it is the other 56 cards in the deck lol. you can run chimney imp in jund and still win <50% of games, and no one is singing its praises.

Do you have any way of backing up that claim (nor the Chimp claim)? If it is the other 56 cards that do the work then why bother spending $400 filling those last 4 slots?

I will look for some decks with cards that are just better in some daily events or something. As per why spending 400$ on cards to fill that spot that is kinda just how it is. 4 cards in your deck don't always have that big of a role when replaced by cards that are some what worse.(most people could agree that using day of judgment in place of wrath shouldn't really hurt you at all)
I mean the giest for example would for the most part fit the same role as goyf early, but you would notice the disparity in power when you draw it late. Not ever game are you going to draw it late, and some decks are powerful enough to be running a few budget replacements and still do fine in something like FNM or a mtgo daily.
Back to the point about decks spending 400$ when they can still win:
Generally most tournament players(that can afford) are going to play the best deck possible. 400$ is quite a steep price for a playset of a card, but even those few games that you win because of that cards power vs a budget replacement mean a lot in GPs and larger PTQs.
I guess a good example of this is splinter twin. The banned catrips are much better than the replacements(even if not for budget reasons) but the deck still has a high win %.
It all comes down to the statics of how often you will see that card, and when and how much better the best card will be in different common situations.
Also I have no trouble seeing the blue. matter of fact that is why I picked it over the colors I could use(red is restricted for mods) I just wanted something other than black because it makes it easier for me and other people to pick my points out of multiquote messages. i have only had one other complain about it, and it was from someone who used a weird color setting on their browser? Are you using some odd color settings or less used browser?

I use the "dark" setting, but even when I have switched it back it is very difficult for me to read unless I am perfectly level with each line of text. Otherwise the text seems to float and run together. I am not telling you what to do, but I have never had trouble discerning people's replies (using default font color) from that which they were replying to.
