I spent quite a bit of time collecting data on excel to get a nice metagame analysis of modern for people who are interested in testing for a PTQ (or GP Lincoln coming up) but don't know what to test against. These represent every deck that has gone 3-1 or 4-0 in the past week.
1. Have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
2. Stubbornly argue for at least 1 page of posts.
3. Regurgitate things you read on Starcitygames or Channelfireball.
4. Hate all netdeckers
5. Claim your 2nd place FNM deck broke the format and Delver is not even that good.
6. Tell everybody that MBC is coming back every time a new black card is released.
Hmm, it seems to be working for me. Perhaps you can offer a better hosting site?

Very interesting chart.
- Storm is "back"
- UW hawk, UWR isochron are making their way to the top
- Affinity losing some gas but still a very serious contender (like twin also)
- tron not able to make a single win....
It should also be noted that in the later half of the week, UWR Isochron and UW Hawk were putting up more numbers than jund.

Keep in mind that the PTQ data we're seeing is a bit different than the MTGO data from dailys. RUG and Affinity are a much higher portion of T8's and Tron is nearly non-existant (evident by your count of 0 4-0 results). Of course this is slightly over a weeks worth of data, and there were no PTQ's last week.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
From where I'm sitting, they overlap closer than you might think. The PTQ top 8 lists roughly correspond to the SE meta in many ways. Obviously the SE meta has more decks, simply because of larger numbers. But overall, they overlap pretty close.
And Tron currently has 18 4-0 & 70 3-1 finishes in the SEs. (up to 1/25).
The online PTQs are much different than the paper ones. I have been looking through results and comparing and contrasting numbers over the last couple of days. Tron has showed up in one IRL ptq which was one in some foreign place called tibula(???) This also only had 80 players and most of the decks in the top 8 were missing key staples or had "budget" concessions.
The daily results are only as good as what you face.(which is typically worse decks/worse opponents than in ptqs)
For instance lsv faced some random beastmasters ascension deck. I have watched tons of online DE events for modern and most of the time you get at least 1 "bye".

And there were UB Faeries deck, but if you didn't know MUF is mono blue faeries.

Thanks for putting this together, but I do have to say that really don't think we can take much from this without normalizing for quantity of the decks that were entered. If 49 people entered an identical janky list and 1 person entered a tier one deck, we'd see that the janky list is more viable than the tier one deck.

As I stated, this is a metagame analysis. That is, decks you should be prepared for in an unknown field of decks. It is not a predictor of the viability of any deck in the format.

Maybe I had my mind to far in the gutter to appreciate your abbreviation of mono blue faeries:)
As per the thread I could some someone the raw data of online PTQs vs IRL PTQs to show the disparity between the two. I am quite bad at excel and other chart/graph programs so i think it is an endeavor I can live without.

I don't understand how you expect me to cross reference anything now as there is no way to know all the decks entered. There would have to be a dedicated team of data miners to record every daily round with decks and their records. Or one person who is willing to spend close to 6 hours a day doing this.

Several people have written scripts to parse that data. I can do a glance comparison to see that control is a lot more common online than in the paper ptqs we've seen

Once again, this is not a "top tier" predictor or a predictor of viability. It's simply the winners metagame this week.
I'm not sure if you understand how I obtained these results. I got the data from daily results like this: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnlineTourn.aspx?x=mtg/digital/magiconline/tourn/3372775.
