5 rounds cut to top 8 is incredibly small. I must say I was surprised. I mean honestly in Virginia of all places to have such a small event is stunning.
They played nine rounds of Standard yesterday. The SCG Open is currently in round seven of Legacy.

The decks are more expensive than an Underground Sea, but there's not too many decks close to a $1,000. (Jund and Caw?)
I think a couple early Jund decks I saw were up near 900$ to throw together. However most of the solid decks out there if they avoid goyf are fairly moderate at around 300-600$ which honestly is fairly good when you compare it to Legacy where just a land base could run you 300-skys the limit. I just have to look back to Standard a year ago to Caw-Blade and say 800$ standard deck and go yeah Modern as a non-rotating format seems pretty decent in the that price range for decks.
And today we have one of the smallest Legacy opens in years. I heard all the excuses, sorry but numbers are numbers.
Are you aware there's this thing called the Super Bowl today?

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.

Guess why. Goyf. Oh but they can reprint goyf while they can't reprint duals.
They haven't because they know it's useless to reprint those and not the other staples. People are still gonna need the ones in the reserved list.
Force and Wasteland are still the two most played cards in the format after Brainstorm. And they're expensive, and they're not on the reserve list. Your point is invalid.

No his point is still valid... There are alot of cards on the reserved list that are also format staples. But there is no point in reprinting a staple for the sake of saving a format from price barriers if you can't reprint the other equally important staples. That's the problem with legacy/vintage.

Except for the fact Legacy can only support so many players and Wotc doesnt really support Vintage.
I wonder when people will get this through their heads? There are only so many copies of those eternal staples, and they are gonna be destroyed eventually.

Off-Topic: I really wish WotC (or someone other than Gen Con) would support awesome Vintage. Vintage is an incredible format, with some ridiculous interactions. It's incredibly fun to watch, at least it is to me.
On-Topic: Does anyone know how the Modern side events went at the SCG Open this weekend? (The one on Saturday. The Sunday one probably didn't happen, Super Bowl + prerelease and all.)

I wonder when you will get it through your heads that the shocks are legal in legacy too....and are used by legacy players, people use Cloud of Faeries/Snap over Candelabra of Tawnos in high tide, is it optimal, no, does it work, yes, are shocks optimal no, do they work, yes, they require smarter/tighter play in legacy. Not reprinting (*insert X legacy staple*) because of the reserved list is dumb reasoning.

They struggled to get it going (it started 30 minutes later). We had 12 players I think. I'll see if I can recall what everyone was playing

I wonder when you will get it through your head that duals are not the only staples on the reserved list for legacy/vintage.
Seriosly. I play legacy. I love it, but its gonna die inevitably due to availability issues. I swear its like every hipster legacy player (the players that got into it becauase it was the cool up-and-coming format that the cool kids play) that got into is experiencing the magic version of Marx's "middle class anxiety".

If the captain told you that you could not plug certian holes in a ship, and that you could plug certian other holes, whats the point of pluggin any hole at all? You're just delaying the inevitable. Why waste your time and not just head for the lifeboat? Its a lost cause.
No one is saying that they won't reprint legacy staples that are not on the reserved list. They probably will, but not for the purpose of saving legacy, and if they did they would be wasting thier time.
Noe one is saying "don't print X legacy staple because of the reserve list" were saying "In the end, no amount of reprints will matter for the fate of legacy".

Ok then, well call me a dumbass then because I have it up too. I just heard them talking and kept hearing 5. Guess my mind isn't on the matches atm.
Melira Pod is like >$500. Mono-U Fae is >$500. UR Storm and Twin are >$300.

Pretty much. I was emphasizing the point that most competitive Modern decks will cost you more than an Underground Sea.

I didn't see the other players as 1-2 dropped after their Round 1 loss. I ended up 3-1 losing to the Boros deck.
