Another useful number might be "Price without Mana Base". In a few decks much of the cost is the mana base, which skews the price for many long term players that are comming it to the format. Once you have collected some shocks, some fetches, and such the "cost" of the deck (as you have it listed) is pretty irrelevant. I have been playing for several years, so I have few shocks, and have finally collected all the Zen fetches, so when I am looking at a deck's price the number is not useful.
Note: I am talking about lands that are added so as to produce mana and fix colors. Manlands, even ones like Celestial Colonnade that produce two colors, and utility lands (scryng sheets, Grove of Burnwillows) are not included in the deck list to fix the mana base.
Anyone who complains about the price of playing Modern is just too proud to play Elves, Affinity (which doesn't even really need Ravager, see Owen Turtenwald's Legacy list), Living End, Goblins ... basically the only decks that are really hard to build are decks that rely on Goyf, Thoughtseize, Clique, Bob, or perfect 3-color shock/fetch manabases (and even those only need one or two of each shock, easy for anyone who was already a heavy EDH player). Goyf is a problem, but you just don't need Goyf to win games in this format.

oh wow lol i just saw now that this was stickied. my bad for being absent...
in regards to the recent talk, i will do my best to fix things. i'm not sure if putting up B/R burn is the best idea, as most people are still playing mono-red, no? i want the database to be as helpful as possible, but if i have to pick a group of people to be helpful to, it's going to be the majority.
also, i'm not being super focused on updating the list atm, as Dec 20 is just around the corner. it will probably need a lot of work after that.
anyone who really wants to help PM me, but it's A LOT of work, as it needs just the right formatting. still, if you bare with my lecture on how to do it, help is appreciated.
even though this isn't a legacy thread, i do feel the need to disagree with you on the fact that elves nor affinity is competitive... especially elves. while they don't top 8 too often, elves is still quite a powerful deck.
I am surprised that you have no numbers on Storm yet.
i've been pretty busy, not really paying attention to this thread. i'd like to, but with only around 1000 views every two months while still being a stickied thread, it seems like not too many people are making use of it.
If you mean digital card for magic online, then yes- they are almost always dramatically cheaper. The are about 4x cheaper in my experience.
If you mean buying paper cards from an online retailer, then not really. Sure, you can find some deals if you spend a lot of time shopping around, and you might be able to find an ebay deal, but you will generally not find prices that much different online than at a FLGS. Many brick and mortar shops use online guides to determine value, so the prices all come for the same sources.
I could do the lists for two decks I've been playing recently: Soul Sisters and Martyr-Proc
BRG Loam Control (Assault - Loam) BRG
W Mono White Control (Martyr - Proc) W
