I need some help deciding on a modern deck. I have around a $320 budget. I dont really like RDW, and like to play more of a control style deck. I am kinda looking for something fun and obscure that is not likely to get hit with bannings. Any ideas of a deck like that?
EDIT: I also dont mind playing midrange strategies. Just nothing to aggro like RDW.
Midrange right now. Cawblade and Esperblade with lingering souls are the only ones that come in mind. Not too many control decks being played. A lot of Tron and combo seeing play right now though. Jund is out of your budget so if you have some standard swords or left over cards from previous rotation. Caw blade may be the way to go

I personally feel like Caw Blade can be very powerful. I tried it in 2 PTQs and was a play mistake in each (a match loss in each) away from top 8.
He may be able to afford Jund simply because he lists Jund in his "Extended decks," so he may have most of the pieces.
The first deck that came to mind for me was Splinter Twin. I still think that this can be a very good deck in the right hands.

Ehh, I wish, the 4 Goyfs and Bobs say "SCREW YOU DEATH GAARA!" I play classic jund with no lilianas since I cant seem to find them lol. But no one plays extended so.....
Yeah I guess $400 for a playset of Bobs and Goyf is out most people's ranges.

I tend to say Death and Taxes, when these questions come up, but read about it first. It is fun, and challenging to play right, but it is not in a great postion at the moment (tier 2 at best). It does, however, have a vibrant and active following and recently there were some big changes to the popular form of the deck that are making it more of a serious deck. It is a pretty cheap deck, even if you are going for things like Kataki in the SB.
Also Aggro Loam/Assault Loam are getting some attention right now.

More like $600.

In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Melira Pod should be in your price range I would guess maybe a little over, its close, but since you play pod in standard its worth considering. And your EDH decks imply an preferance toward recursion.
RG Tron is like $100 not counting the groves (the deck is like 4 karns and a bunch of commons/uncommons and 2 eldrazi)
UWR Delver is also good but I have no idea where that falls in budget. Geist/snapcaster being expensive and all.
For a budget the other question is what shocks/fetches do you have, in general you dont need more of any 1 shock, but fetches are core
There's not a whole lot in that price range sadly. Personally If I were starting fresh with no cards and that was my budget I'd go for GW aggro based off of Kibler's list here.
It's around 400 without sideboard, but you could make a few tweaks to bring it down to the 320 price range. It would be easy to trade out of in the future, the majority of cards in it are modern/legacy staples. Or you could eventually build it into Junk or Bant if you wanted to put more money into it down the road.
A ridiculous aggro/combo/control/midrange/life-gain deck that can land 6 damage and up to 21 life gained on T2, and still has a solid end game due to Emeria, the Sky Ruin and Proclamation of Rebirth. It destroys aggro, is strong against midrange, delver decks can't get over our life-gain, and a well-built list has an excellent chance against combo. The only truly abysmal matchup is the tron.
The mono-white deck can be purchased for about 200 if you go with the snow land package. A W/r/b or W/r list will cost more like 300.
Play enduring ideal! Its very cheap (minus lands of course), is extremely obscure, fun to play, and is combo-control(esc)
Or D&T... Cheaper and far more controlling. "but it's sooo mainstream ugh"
I don't know that I would call it exactly mainstream if you are playing it carefully. It can manage some unexpected things if you are experienced enough to pilot it right. It is no Enduring Ideal, sure, but it is still relatively rare, and does not make my head hurt.
Zoo and Jund are mainstream, D&T is rare and requires a fair amount of skill/knowledge to do well with. Popularity shouldn't really keep you from playing a deck though. The important things are that you enjoy it, it's in your budget, and does well. The latter not as much though, I know people who would rather lose playing with a deck that they enjoy playing than win with a deck they find boring.
MartyrProc, for sure. Within your budget, and seems like it is suited more to your style. (Control-ish, tempo-ish.)

This is why I started playing magic in the first place. It wasn't PT aspirations just making noobs cry by doing things that are perfectly fair.

Having just built UWR Delver I can tell you that the lands are at least as expensive as the Snapcasters/Geists.

...this is EDH. If you aren't trying to kill someone in the most ridiculous manner possible, you're doing it wrong.
EDH: Go Crazy or Go back to Standard.

Griselbrand is pretty straightforward (in the same way that a nuclear holocaust is straightforward); just draw some cards, beat some face, bathe in the blood of some innocent, and repeat.
EDIT: I also dont mind playing midrange strategies. Just nothing to aggro like RDW.
