I wish valakut was legal so I could ramp into primeval titan to get 4 valakuts out, then play two mountains.
I don't think valakut is that broken. I think they should bring it back. Sure, it was a consistent turn 5 or 6 win in standard, but I feel like this format has better hate for it.
Primeval Titan + valakut would not be the problem in modern. I would be far more concerned about valakut and Scapeshift, Prismatic Omen or no. I don't think it would be anything the format wouldn't be able to adapt to and deal with, but it would just force decks to be built differently and it would probably be too strong and too consistent for WOTC's tastes.
Apart from Blood Moon, I don't think modern has great non-basic land hate. And I sure as hell don't want to see Valakut on the field with a Titan again.
The reason it was banned in the first place was because of 2 reasons;
1) Valakut for a long time was the 'best' deck in standard. Most of the bannings reflect depowering the 'best' standard decks like Faeries and Affinity.
2) PT Philly was for a while going to be an Extended PT, and then WotC changed it about a month out (which was good because I had done no testing for extended). Scapeshift and Jace+Stoneforge were the only real decks that people had tested for extended, and they didn't want people playing scapeshift.
I would love to see Valakut unbanned because I love the card, and scapeshift is a far slower and less versatile combo than say Splinter Twin or storm.
At the PT I would have probably been fine with Scapeshift decks existing, they would have been far less oppressive than the stupid infect combo deck (which was a pretty good matchup for me, playing zoo).

Definitely agree with this, but I don't think it was the right thing to do.
I did at first, because they were indeed very scary powerhouse decks in standard, but after playing this format for a while and seeing what it's capable of, I think they should let some of the boogey-man cards back in that they just auto-banned because it wrecked a type 2 format for a while, valakut included.

A big reason I never really got into Modern was exactly because of this. Bitterblossom, Valakut, Jace, Ancestral Vision, Grave-Troll, Green Sun's Zenith... almost half of the ban list could be gotten rid of, imo.
This has drifted to ban list discussion so I'm locking it.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
