So, turn 4 you play ranger and search for 2 guys, turn 5 you play them, turn 6 you can attack with them. If you go for devil and bushwacker they'll eat 4 and the goblin will be meh.
I think he's just goblin guides 5-8.
Goblin guides 5-8 is pretty amazing for any aggressive deck. Vexing devil, though not as amazing as Goblin guides still packs pressure for a single mana (especially in multiples). I've been play testing this guy with full set of goblin guides, steppe lynx and Vexing devils. All I can say is games become shorter when these creatures come out in in multiples. I couldn't be happier with the vexing devils since they always give you an advantage over your opponent if your deck is full low cost aggressive creatures and burn. The point is to apply pressure with multiple hard hitting creatures while you cast the devil while burning away theirs. If they take 4 then I'm happy cuz they are closer to dead and if they don't and let it stick then they gotta waste removal on it and I only spent one mana doing all that. Vexing devil is even great after turns 1,2 and 3 contrary to what people think. Cards like dark confidant and ranger of eos keeps the threats coming and as long as you keep aplying pressure the devil shines.
I was just searching for ways to recycle temporal mastery but I did not realise at the time that it gets exiled when it resolved. Guess R'n'D got wind of how unfair that would have been with Noxious Revival and Reclaim.
^^^ Don't bother, after testing it with Canadian Thresh and NO RUG, that card is pretty weak. You have to work too much to make it work, and by then you've already pigeon-holed a line of play that isn't very good. I'll bet anyone that card is nothing more than $5 Novelty Mythic at best. It will only be good in Blue based combo decks in Legacy, where one turn would actually benefit your game-plan. Other wise it's merely a do nothing for the amount of work and mana you put into it, otherwise known as a Tempo sink/Skill tester. Thunderous Wrath now on the other hand, that card is good with Brainstorm. Just don't try to play it with Bob.
Actually, it's worse for you if they have 2 goblin guides. They'll do more damage than if you take 4 damage with the devils (or they will do 4 damage but still have a 2/2 in play).
That's valid in other formats, but in Modern your life is the most important resource. As long as everyone is trying to run 3-color+ decks this will be the truth. I know that my strongest deck so far has been 4-colors. The 3rd and 4th colors are nothing more than splashes, but there are still 4 colors, and the fetch shock manabase is pretty important to it.
Sure some decks like Loam and some of the Jund variants and the 2-color decks have managed pretty well without heavy shockland manabases, but those decks are very narrow, or really slow. Even the Caw-decks that used to be extremely flexible are slow and narrow compared to some of the brews I've been seeing lately. There are a lot of rather obscure cards being tried out by a lot of well known brewers right now for the next season. If anything the guys I play with are showing me is any hint, the format is going to be just as aggressive as it was when Zoo was at the top.
In this Meta, Devil is really good, and I replaced Grim Lavamancer in my list with him, and haven't looked back since. Either they take 4 when he hits the board, or they take 4 when he swings. He plays very well with Bob as well. Which is more than I can say for Goblin Guide in some lists that use Mana Leak or Spell Pierce.
To be honest, I don't care if I kill them on turn 5, 6, or even after 7, as long as I can win. Devil says, "If you get him to 4 with no second bolt in sight, you can win". Sure there are some Glass Cannon decks that can win before that, but that is what the SB is for. I'd rather have my maindeck capable of racing and dealing with the creature based decks of the format primarily. Most people do not play Tron or Combo in paper. Having a good game 1 against the fast aggro and midrange decks is more important to me than being able to stop Tron game 1.

Hey, I'm running 4xdevils as soon as AVR comes out in mtgo, not saying it's bad, but it's not overpowered and... heh... not even remotely near of being banned as I read in this thread or another.
To me it's a "burn with creatures" card, not a boros card, in boros it's playable I think but not awesome imo.
Yep. In all fairness you could life someone to death... Felidar Sovereign. Oh Yeeeeahhhhh...
But on topic. Either vexing devil causes some rage quits or Cockatrice kids have been rage quiting a lot lately.
Alllllsssoooo! Went against tron. My opponent put out a wurm coil. I topped two vexes and he was at 3 life, so ovbiously they came into the field. However if they were kird apes, Id have been dead. Since they were 4/3 I still had enough power on the field to threaten an over run.
I'd like to see some actual decklists (real or imagined) of people building with AVR. I need filler for my next article! I saw a nice "vexing bump" in the Red-x Aggro sub. I haven't found any others worth posting yet, and may be overlooking some. Point me in the right direction!
There is a Devil Proc thread, but I am not sure how far it has gotten.
Thunderous Wrath is the only Miracle card I see in Modern play. RDW or just red burn of any kind in any color combined deck will love to see it. I'd go so high as to have 3. Just to increase my chances. and if It is in the opening hand I keep it as the "just in case" card.

I have done some searches on the gatherer and of the spells that put cards on the top of your library and library manipulation these seem the best.

So you didn't kill him to life, but death?
