I liked all the ideas bouncing around on the poll, and since we had such an overwhelming success, I'd decided to go for it. Below are the rules and requirements.
Rules:
1. All Modern Rules apply here, as well as normal magic rules.
2. This will be best of 3 games, single elimination rounds(You win 2 games you move on to next round). You may sideboard between matches. Should there be a tie, it will go to game 4.
3. Winner of the Tournament will get an invite to the later in the year "Burning Pumpkin Brawl" Invitational Contest to duke it out for 2012's Best Modern Mtg Sal player, aka the Reaper King Crown. Details about it will be announced later.
4. Second place will get 3 points, and 3rd and 4th will get 2 points, for the wild card spot.
5. If you already have been invited and win, the initiation will go to runner up. If they also already have an invite, the semifinal players will play for it.
Part 1: Pre-game
1. You must have Cockatrice downloaded, with all sets updated, and registered on the main site. See http://cockatrice.de/
2. You must post your cockatrice name, deck code, , via post this thread.
3. You must send me your cockatrice name, deck and Decklist Via Private message. Deck list must be copy pasted from deck editor. AFTER THIS YOUR DECK IS LOCKED IN AND CANT BE CHANGED.
Part 2: Playtime!
1.When the pairings go up on Sunday, its up to you to message each other and figure out when you will play, and who will create the match.
2. When you find a time for both of you, post up the time here, so we can get a judge, or at least a member of the community to view the match.
3. When you create the match, title it "Lantern IQ (name) vs. (name), make it so spectators can view the match, see everything and chat. Set a password to: Lantern This way judges, and spectators can watch and interact if need be.
4. If someone is more then 9 minutes late, and did not reschedule ahead of time. it is a round loss.
5. The winner of the best of 3 will advance to next week. If a Current Official Judge is present, they will message me the results. If not, then both parties must post up the result.
EST Times, according to this. This all happens in one week.
Saturday 8:00PM (5/12/12)- Cockatrice name, deck list and code due.
Sunday(5/13/12)- Pairings go up.
Wednesday 12:00 pm (5/15/12) - Latest match times due
Monday 12:00PM- Saturday 6:00PM (5/14/12 - 5/19/12)- You can schedule your matches at anytime during the week.
Results are to be messaged to me on here, by BOTH parties, if none of the official judges are not present.
Questions and Concerns that have been brought up:
Is Avacyn Restored legal?
Yes it is in paper, the set is on cockatrice, so its totally legal.
Where is my Deck Id?
There is two ways to do it. the easiest is to build your deck in deck editer and it will say it on the deck. This is the way I prefer, because I can pop in your deck list (which you PM me) and I can make sure its the same. The second way is to upload your deck to the server once you connect. Don't do it that way, do it the first way.
What are the points used for?
by the end of this run, we should have anywhere from 8-12 players. But wed rather have the end of the year Invitational be 16 players, thus there will be some "wild card spots" These points will go to that.
Is my decklist going to be revealed at the end of this?
Yes, unless you tell me not to. This is to furthing testing and community, so it will be. Let me know if you dont want it to.
Why do you need the Deck Code AND the Decklist?
Decklists are used for a couple reasons, one being I'm going to put them up at the end so everyone can learn and adapt for the next one (And modern in general) Also when you start a game, you load the deck in. the chat will say "Lantern Loaded Deck! (XXXX111XX)" Thats how we verify its the same. Anytime you enter a card into deck editor, it changes that code. Depending on how big your deck and SB are it can even add more numbers (thats how I caught the cheater). But luckly, unless someone is hacking or clicking cards until the correct code comes up, no one can see the decklists. That means one person (like me) has to take the decklist, load it into cockatrice, and check to see if the code matches the decklist.
Hey there. Really glad you're doing this - me and my friends are pretty excited.
I just need some clarification before I send you my decklist.
So at 8PM EST (You may want to change the OP to say EST, it's more commonly used) the pairings will go up. We have until Wednesday at 12PM EST to tell you when we are going to play those games? And then until Saturday at 6PM EST to finish them.
Am I correct in all of this?
Thanks again, I'm glad someone made it possible for everyone to play.

So youd have til this Saturday, 6pm to get me your name/Deckcode/list. Then pairings will go up. After that you'll have the whole week to play the match, but have to post up your match times BEFORE that Wednesday, so we can organize judges and what not.
So you can post up a time for Tuesday, get it a proved by a judge on time, and play early on in the week. But the latest you can post up the time would be that Wednesday.

I see. Wonderful, thanks again. Now I just have to decide which deck to use lol. Will you be posting the decklists of winners? What about the # of each deck type. For example, 3 Trons/2 BW Tokens/11 Junds/1 UR Storm
I hope you don't mind my questions. I can see this being really fun for everyone, and very useful.

That's the plan! and since its cockatrice, people can change their decks every tournament (not weekly mind you, just every time a new one opens up!). I'm sure Blippy would love the results as well.
Remember guys! You need to sign up first and foremost. Get cockatrice, registrar and and post up here your cockatrice name and deck code. Then message me your decklist!
I would really like to, but i'm afraid time zones would make it very difficult for me to play.
Yep. I did conciser that, which is why I left it up to the players to figure out a time. Not the perfect solution, but its better then mandating a time.
Also, no points system to fill in the last four slots? Sixteen pairs down better than twelve, so I think the Invitational should have sixteen players.
Adding you to the judges now. And sure, that sounds good. Say second place gets 2 points and 3rd and forth get 1 point? That way it can keep the races closer?

I'm not really sure. I was thinking three and two, but it depends on a few things:
Should two third-place finishes equal one second-place or more than one?
Should two second-places equal three third-places or two?
I think that you should still give points out farther own down than 2nd and 3rd.
We will have to see how many people sign up. Currently there is only 4. We will do 3 points to second place and 2 points to 3/4 until we see more people signing up. then we will reevaluate it.

All judges can play. The reason for this roundabout deck check, is so I'm the only one verifying the decks to keep decks private so more people can play.
And about more points, I wouldnt mind giving 1 point to 5-8th place if the event was big enough to warrant it.

You should come up with some sort of cut-off for that; Like in a 32 player event 5-8th gets 1 point, or something like that.
And then come up with a thing for X amount of points gets you to the 'Invitational'. So theorectically if 8 points gets you to the invitational and you run 8 events before then; lots of people could que up (more than 16); So, you'd have to try to come up with a way to make it as close to 8 more people or less (who didn't que via 1st) are able to que up via points. Make it less possible to do seems like the best way considering it's easier to grab two people with 7 points to fill the last few slots as opposed to deciding between a group of 10 people who all have 8 points.
Are there any rules regarding privacy? There might always be that person (not me) who doesn't want his/her new deck/techs to be talked about among participants.

Like with any tournament, scouting the field shouldn't be 'against the rules', at least between rounds. Say I'm BFFs with one of your opponents, if i ask how his game went, i feel like he should be able to tell me about the heat your packing. It'd be hard to enforce the rule otherwise. Afterall, the decklists can't be altered between rounds.

Yes. If asked not to reveal at the end of the tournament, it will be left out. I'll add that to the OP since it was a good question. As far as the deck codes, you cant replicate someones deck based on it (unless your super hacker, in which case, you'll be able to get it anyways), only verify its the same deck as they entered. Thats all handled by me only.
