Hello all! This past December I jumped back into Magic after being away from it for quite some time.... I've been playing Standard exclusively as I didn't have the money/cards to play more formats. But I'm looing to break into Modern as I saw the judge at my local card shop playing a R/G aggro deck I really liked. So my question to all of you is: What is this format like? I've looked through the decklists in the forums posted above and have a basic grasp about what each is about, but if you guys maybe wouldn't mind explaining them a bit that'd be neat! But also whats the format like? Is it aggro heavy? Is it control dominated? Does delver dominate the format here as well? I guess what I'm trying to say is, whats the format like? And someone at my shop mentioned that Modern isn't "in season." Would someone mind explaining what this is about?

I assume that last "Standard" was meant to be a "Modern?" ^^

It's got some nice variety, but mostly you'll need to be prepared for quick decks that try to win in a few rounds. There are a handful of tempo and control strategies but they are generally taking the backseat to more creature and combat-oriented stuff.
Is it aggro heavy?
I wouldn't call it aggro heavy, and aggressive creature decks are doing quite well - Zoo was pretty dominant until the last banhammer - and Delver is quite good.
Is it control dominated?
Not at all. Control has a smaller role in the format right now, and I'm not sure there's a viable straight-control deck (Draw-Go style) that holds up against the aggressive starts of other decks.
Does delver dominate the format here as well?
I dunno about "dominate," but it's quite good. Modern just has a wide variety of answers and a decent amount of variety in the decks Delver will face.
Personally, I do like playing control in the format - I have a pretty decent Grixis control deck - but the high quality, cheap creatures strategy Wizards has been pushing for set design has resulted in a more creature-heavy format.

This is why I started playing magic in the first place. It wasn't PT aspirations just making noobs cry by doing things that are perfectly fair.
Delver is the most played deck in Daily's because it has the best chance against Tron. It's not really the best, although it has a lot of really good match-ups.
I did mean Modern thanks for pointing that out >.< Anyways, if you guys wouldn't mind telling me about the format as a whole it'd be appreciated? I'm looking for this to be a guide of advice for not just me, but other players looking to break into Modern!
Also if you care to test a bit, and watch some live games, you can always check out my monthly free touri Lantern Invitational Opens. Great way to test competitively.
I will have about 200 tix to spend at the moment and how I can get the best out of that?
200 tix can get you just about any deck that doesn't have tarmogoyfs or dark confidant's in it, with the exception of some of the decks using both geist of saint traft and snapcaster mages. Either way, most decks run about $200 dollars, especially on MTGO. I'm not positive though, I haven't checked MTGO prices of anything lately.
Unless it has very effective ways of disrupting your opponent in the earlier part of the game, yes.
I wouldn't know what disruptive cards to play but there seems to be a ton of effective ones in red and black.
I had a terrible idea to play BR tron to use the new m13 tutor on turn 5 to tutor for two more towers, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and fervor, casting fervor on turn 6 and attacking with a hastened Emrakul on turn 7 and 8
although I probably don't need the fervor because people take damage from shocklands and fetches and can cut red completely?
not exactly sure what I want to do with this deck yet, but the idea of tutoring for 4 cards on turn 5 and playing Emrakul on turn 7 seems like a good one to me

Why not just play with Gifts Ungiven or Eye of Ugin as your tutor? You could also get a hasty Emrakul with Through the Breach on turn 3.. I know it's not T1, but UR Tron is still a sneaky good deck to play with. I could PM you a list if you want since I doubt you'll find one in any recent tournament reports.

Foreigning out SI, currently 33/75. The only thing better than a T1 kill is doing it with cards no one has ever heard of and/or can't read. If anyone has any of the usual pieces, PM me. I'm willing to buy/trade.

I didn't think of using those two tutors because my thought process was trying to find a way to make the new m13 tutor usable in standard or modern... and my first thought was Tron (because tutoring on your fifth turn for 4 cards for 7BB would give you a lot of options as to what you could play on turn 5)
I did have an old standard Kamigawa/Ravnica UR Tron deck I was trying to make work, but nothing really came from it (My finishers were Ryusei, the Falling Star, Keiga, the Tide Star and Invoke the Firemind). I would appreciate it if you could pm me a list of a current UR tron deck

This is a very interesting idea, thanks. Might be trying to build something like this... UBW Tron sounds neat.

Three colors could be possible for tron, but one of the three would have to be green
