Yeva can't be Aluren; Aluren makes creatures free. Zero-mana Imperial Recruiters with Flash are bonkers, and I bet Modern can also break the card.
On the other hand, I foresee Yeva being good in a Caw-like UG/x tempo-control deck. How about Goyfs/Huntmasters/Finks/Thrun with Flash?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sublime Archangel looks at least as good as Rafiq of the Many. Worse power boost (how often are you getting 3+ creatures in play?), but she does fly and she has a slightly chunkier body than Rafiq. Then again, she's competing with Silverblade Paladin for the power boost slot.
Also, I've tested Jace's Phantasm a little, and it's better in the slower Modern than the fast Legacy (by the time 10+ cards are in any player's graveyard in Legacy, someone has a significant lead), but about the only times I have gotten my opponent to have 10+ cards in the graveyard in a timely fashion are when I Thought Scoured them.
I like Jace's Phantasm A LOT. I can easily see running him in a sort of UB control deck with Glimpse the Unthinkable and thought scour, and Visions of Beyond for cheap mid- to late-game card advantage. throw in some Snapcasters, Cryptics, and Spell Snares, and youre on your way to a nice deck. (Probably would also play Murder)
Don't forget Tome Scour Makes it possible 5/5 t2. If you have 2 in hand...2 5/5 t3 is pretty strong in my books. It's is possible to have even more though lol. Would be a pretty lucky/strong draw.
I was thinking instead of doing Janky Mill style stuff, you could go with a bunch of decent 1cc spells; Thought Scour, Gitaxian Probe, Thoughtseize/IoK, Forbidden Alchemy, and use Jace's Phantasm and a pseudo-delver that is a bit better late game in an UB delver shell; Snapcaster would make an appearance of course. He could act as a Tombstalker that doesn't hit you for 7 off of Bob.
Other creatures you control have exalted. (If a creature has multiple instances of exalted, each triggers separately.)
Dropping this turn three with the help of Noble Hierarch means you can attack with a 7/6 flyer on turn four. Add an Akrasan Squire and it hits for nine!
Could GW exalted be playable in modern this fall? Will the angel require to much protection because of Lightning Bolt?
Bant looks better than plain old GW because you get better fatties and disruption. Perhaps the best one is the Cephalid Constable-like Geist of Saint Traft. He may as well be a Hexproof 3-mana 2/2 that says, "Whenever ~ attacks, it deals 4 damage to defending player." Obviously, he looks better with buffs and evasion.
Sublime Archangel looks comparable to Rafiq of the Many (same weakness to Bolt, same not caring about Shock variants, same lack of evasion-granting, Rafiq has slightly better pump, Sublime A. actually has evasion herself), but if you're here for serious pumping, Elspeth still looks better because she doesn't go down to creature removal, has a virtual 5 initial toughness, and grants crucial evasion.
It's true that Goblin Chieftain and Krenko go hand in hand, and I guess Krenko can go in Goblin decks as a 1-of. Legacy has better support for Krenko, though (seriously, where are Goblin Matron/Ringleader/Warchief/Lackey/etc.).
In the meantime, I actually believe Yeva can fit in Jund as a 1- or 2-of. Stiff competition with Thrun and Huntmaster of the Fells, true, but 12+ of Jund's creatures are green, and Bloodbraid Elfs with Flash should never get old.
But I have to think that the other cards fit the roles better. Huntmaster (and nighthawk) is for an aggro filled meta, and thrun hurts control more I would think, as they cant kill it.
I think shes better in a deck thats more aggressive then mid-range.
Although I have to wonder about her... she is a shaman...
Hey guys...Worldfire. Can this be a deck in Modern? There's loads of ways to tackle it too.
O-Ring +Anything (Near Death Experience and Barren Glory are great option, or anything with haste or an ETB damage effect)
Or Suspend with Jhoira.
If I aint casting titans for 6 mana, I aint casting that for 9.
Explosive cards that are that splashy are made for edh. Cards that are little and good and on curve are made for standard. Cards they didn't realize would be really good are made for modern. Under the radar mistakes are made for legacy. Rule to live by when evaluating new cards.
So there's a rumor that Rancor is the next coreset power common (after Mana Leak and Lightning Bolt).
While this kind of discussion is probably reserved for the rumor mill, I've heard the same thing from a few different places, now. In terms of power level, the card is lightyears better than Mana Leak. Probably just a notch below bolt. I'm skeptical, but hopeful. Green could use this kind of power. I'll gladly go straight hexproof blouses if this card sees a reprint.
I disagree with that and would like to hear from Cardfather on it.
This is the M13 thread. We should be able to talk about M13 rumors.
I private messaged you and t_c on the matter.
In the future, if you have an issue with my actions, PM me or post on my helpdesk (there is a link below in my sig).
I agree. Until the cards are in the spoiler or on WotC's site, I would agree that discussion should be in the mill. Discussions about this policy should be in a helpdesk. Thanks. t_C
I tested him in a White Weenie-style deck (Mono-White Soldiers), and I basically never attacked with 4 creatures with Odric out. It was very hard to stick 4 creatures when decks either run removal/counterspells/targeted discard or kill you before you stick 4 creatures.
Thus, Odric basically needs to be run in a tokens deck to do anything with his funky ability. If I'm devoting cards like Intangible Virtue to my W/x Tokens deck, I'd rather run Hero of Bladehold. If I'm playing too many flying token-producing cards like Spectral Procession, Odric looks half-useless.
Anyways, thoughts on Odric, Master Tactician? Seems really good, even in modern (token decks, of course).
I'm with Lectrys; I'd rather have a 4cc Anthem on a stick (Hero); If his ability worked off of a Windbrisk Heights it might be different. And do you really care if Delver / Restoration Angel / Hawks are reduced to chump blocking your Procession Tokens? It would be cool to wrath their board, though (with some creative blocks); but it seems like the good token generating cards already come with evasion for the pseudo unblockability he gives your team.
He is, however, going on my radar as a mono-white General in EDH.
That would be amazing in several places; Mono G Stompy could be possible, and It could/would be awesome in Troll Worship Bant.
You can choose to make none of their creatures block, right?
