If I'm correct, Odric basically reads "If Odric and three or more creatures attack, creatures your opponent controls cannot block." right?
You can choose to make none of their creatures block, right?
Odric does say, "Whenever Odric and 3+ creatures attack, creatures you control are unblockable this turn". He also says, "Whenever Odric and 3+ creatures attack, you may choose to have your opponent's blockers all die to your trampling first strike deathtouch guy", and he also says, "Whenever Odric and 3+ creatures attack, Provoke that Bob who won't block into dying".
Well, not literally Provoke Bob, but if Bob is untapped and you have a dude with 1+ power, he dies.
In the meantime, since MTG Salvation just added Rancor to its M13 spoiler, I feel confident about talking about it here.
I'm personally not sure Rancor will be played in Modern. It's not played in Legacy, and I don't think Modern is that much more relaxed than Legacy. Rancor likely has the power of a low- to mid-grade equipment--it's rather like a cheaper Bonesplitter. Getting your creature booted in response to Rancor rather blows, so this restricts Rancor's viability to a few decks at most.

If Nacatl wasn't banned, you've of surely been hit by some turn 2 5/3 tramplers, and possibly a Goblin Guide with them.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
To tell you the truth, I've always thought about rancor in legacy... it would have to be something very creature heavy though, such as some sort of zoo list. Might not be great, I haven't tried, but it never seemed too bad of an idea.
I think it will be alright in modern, for at least some archtypes. Seems decent in a 1-drop zoo list, but I wouldn't go as far as putting it in jund or anything.
Rancor is pretty dope. I'm happy to see it finally be reprinted. Dunno' if it'll do anything in Modern other than be thrown into random lists for a while. I mean, do you side in Surgical Extraction and enchantment removal to deal with it? lol. I probably wouldn't.

Mhjames: mtgsalvation: I DON'T SEE HOW THIS CARD IS GOOD. I KNOW PATRICK CHAPIN USED IT AND WENT 8-0, BUT THAT WAS A SMALL TOURNAMENT. THE CARD IS TOO SLOW. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE OPPONENT HAS A SPELL IN THE GRAVEYARD
Yup, some viable Modern homes for Rancor I can think of are Hexproof Bant and Infect Pump. There's no being blown out by removal in Hexproof Bant (granted, Rancor already tries to be resilient to removal), and Infect Pump needs the speed and could use a cheap, staying power boost.
In the meantime, if a deck won't use equipment (other than Infect Pump), it definitely won't play Rancor.
Yeah. But Honestly I'm lumping this guy into standard stuff. 4+ CC says "I better most likely win you the game the turn I come in" in modern. He doesnt do that really. Hero is more explosive then him. However in Standard I call him the real deal, so who knows?
Oh jeez raccor. It will see play. I don't think Zoo likes it a ton (thalia doesn't too much) but trample is good for knights and goyfs. Id say its a go to card in zoo if aggro gets beefier... but it seems like control is finally creeping into the meta.
Odric seems playable. I play WW, and I don't want him, but W/x Tokens might? I don't know what else can reliably get enough creatures out to make use of him. I know tokens isn't a very good deck, and this won't make it T1, but he's pretty damn powerful with a lot of creatures out.
Rancor.. as already mentioned: Bant. Zoo maybe?

Modern - RUG Delver RUG - Splinter Twin UR - Jund BRG
Legacy - RUG Delver RUG - Maverick GW - SI BG
Foreigning out SI, currently 33/75. The only thing better than a T1 kill is doing it with cards no one has ever heard of and/or can't read. If anyone has any of the usual pieces, PM me. I'm willing to buy/trade.
All in all, I think Odric has a lot more potential that you think he does.
He may, you could totally right. but I can only reallllyyy see him in tokens, But dunno. I never liked master factitious because it wasn't perimanate... but now it is, so I can see it.
Cathedral of War just might be playable. Exalted on a land (a laaaaand!) may be good enough to be worth ETB tapped and producing only colorless mana. At the very least, KotR can find it.
I don't know, most aggressive/mid-range decks that would want this seem to include multiple colors, which makes it a tad bit worse in addition to coming into play tapped.

And I think knight would perfer to find steepe to push through damage, a fetch to get 1/1 with out having to attack alone, or my personal favorate people seem to not realize yet, slayer's strong hold, to make those hastey 8/7 lynxs as well.
Fetchlands only boost all KotRs. Cathedral of War boosts Traft/Goyf/V. Clique/Pridemage/Thalia/etc. and doesn't have this horrendous timing problem (should I play it now as a typical land drop or later for its utility?) that Sejiri Steppe has. I hated Sejiri Steppe for being blowsy as a typical land drop; at least Cathedral of War is unconditional.
I often make KotR search for lands at end of turn (just before my untap step) if she's been forced to stay in a blocking role. Cathedral of War should be easier on the timing than Sejiri Steppe.
I've already proxied up Cathedral of War on Cockatrice, and it's even better than I thought. Having Exalted pumps on stuff that's hard to get rid of is significant. (Of course, Exalted Bant doesn't quite like the endless Fog.dec that is BW Tokens.)

In the meantime, Thragtusk looks very promising for Pod decks that want goodstuffs. Making a Beast token when it leaves the battlefield as opposed to dying is very nice, and Restoration Angel should have a field day with it. The life gain is also fantastic.

Completely agree!
That card is the nutz for pod, especially vs. aggro. Your point about RA is also very valid. Note that it only has to leave the battlefield to get the beast token.
Yes. You basically control their declare blockers step, as far as i know.

That's so great. I can't wait to build an EDH deck around him.
But that's a post for another forum, of course.

Almost literally nothing.
That has always been the saying for legacy (examples including progenitus via natural order and jace, the mind sculptor), but I really don't believe that it applies to modern.
Ranger of Eos, Thrun, the Last Troll, Hero of Bladehold, Bloodbraid Elf, and Restoration Angel are examples of this. They are good, but they don't win you the game the turn they come into play (usually). In fact, off the top of my head I really can't think of anything in modern that costs four mana that wins you the game, barring stuff like past in flames.
All in all, I think Odric has a lot more potential that you think he does.

Funeral needs to throw it into the Troll Worship primer as well. This has me rather excited.
