Stony Silence honestly doesn't hurt them that much in this format where it doesn't shut off (most of) their manabase. It'll slow them down especially if you do it before they explode, but they can still beat you down. Kataki hurts a lot more.

When you peer long enough through the depths, the depths peer also through you.
Kataki is only really useful versus affinity, but Stony Silence can also stop Lotus Blooms, Pentad Prisms, signets, equipment, and Engineered Explosives. Stony Silence is also probably impossible for affinity to get rid of.
Kitaki is generally about a million times better in that MU...It really depends what else is in your SB... Could you post a list so we can have some context?

This is one of those times where you can tell the relative power of a card by the price difference.
Creeping Tar Pit is by far the most efficient Zendikar manland, though. It even sees occasional play in Legacy. UW Control could also shore up its finishers, so it wants Celestial Colonnade. Granted, the other Zendikar manlands aren't bad.
Kataki forces an answer before they untap, or you annihilate their board.
Kataki is worth the risk, especially given the fact that a lot of affinity builds are leaning towards Erayo/canonist locks now, and ravager isn't even seeing play outside of the Affinity-Red lists.
Kataki is a better card, but such an easy target to get rid of.
I've been using 3 Stony Silence with a fair amount of success. My most common losses to Affinity are because of Inkmoth Nexus + Cranial Plating, so typically after we sideboard I have a much better advantage.
The problem with Kataki, really, is that they run a lot of basic lands. As a result, it's not as good as it was in standard when it annihilated their entire field. Stony Silence does not merit as much of an immediate response (plus, they probably don't have one) and they can still beat you down with durdles. That said, Kataki, War's Wage does more to slow them down unless they're holding removal for it.

Even if they have removal for Kataki, if you play it while they're tapped out they're going to lose several permanents removing it. Affinity generally has more artifacts in play than lands.
Who, affinity? Most times I face affinity I see one or two lands max.
Agreed. VERY rarely do I see basic lands, just the playsets of Darksteel Citadel, Glimmervoid, a couple Inkmoth Nexus, and some Scars 2-lands. You may have one or two basic lands in the entire deck but that's generally all I see.
Keep in mind that people misplay all the time. Missing upkeep triggers with Kataki can often lead to a win. Take advantage of those missed triggers. Stony Silence doesn't have that little extra attached to it.
Well Kataki is now about 10tix online. Stoney silence is 3c and actually has another good crossover use, it stops birthing pod! Guess what deck just won the last premier event? You should also be playing overlapping bord cards like cheap removal. Flexible cards are good in large formats, Kataki is strong but narrow and fragile while silence has many more applications. Plus its called stoney silence! How funny is that, its like when every one gets quiet all of a sudden after smoking MJ haha.
It really depends on the rest of your deck and how well your removal can handle a plating carrier compared to how well your sweeps can handle a strong signal pest opening. You might even just be better off running more removal or sweeps out of the board. Why not test both and see how you feel about them?
Yeah kataki is probably the best hoser for affinity but its really the only matchup she shines in.
In my non affinity lists I either run ancient grudge, disenchant or stony silence to cover for a more broad range of matchups.
Eh kataki isnt as good as when the arti lands powered the deck. Now they can pay for some critical pieces here and there. Stony Silence doesn't hurt them too much, but its good against a lot of other decks as well. It's really a meta call. If you have access to white I think the best hate card for affinity is Wrath of God.
Kataki hoses affinity. Stoney silence slows it down tremendoulsy, but does not hose it like kataki does. I'd pick kataki over stoney silence...unless I'm playing vintage.

Just like in Zendikar where all the x/blue fetches were worth more? Right. Srsly though, need a list to justify capabilities.

But possibly that's because I keep playing decks that are weak to Affinity.
