Modern has become a format that I am in love with but I can only play it at major events. I live on the south side of Chicago and would love to either find a store that supported the format or start a league that meets at a store and plays. If anyone has interest or knows of something similar to this already happening around Chicago please let me know
I've got a similar problem in South NJ, I can't find anywhere that runs modern events with regular attendance.
You may want to try the wizard's locator, you can search by format. I tried calling a few places that showed up; one or two of them sounded like they had a decent player population, but it's difficult to justify driving over an hour without a large prize pool.

Pastimes has been doing TCGPlayer modern events for a while, but it looks like there is only sealed and standard on the schedule for this month.
Dice Dojo on the north side used to do Modern on mondays but due to a low turnout has switched to a rotation of t2-legacy-t2-modern. This coming monday is the modern day and several of us are going to be testing for GP Columbus so come on out.
I will see if I can make this monday to dojo, what time does it start?
Registration is at 7, tournament starts at 7:30. I normally get there early, between 6 and 6:30 to do some early testing, trading, or a game of EDH in.
Alright guys good news, I have found a place on the south side in lansing illinois that will host modern events if we can get 8 people or more. This means we can have a playtesting group for GP chicago as well as have a place to just play modern for fun that counts for plainswalker points and has a prize pool. The owner has let me know that if we can set a time with him directly that work for the group as well as his store. If anyone is interested let me know so I can add you to the facebook group as we set this thing up.
