Doesn't really seem like it's consistent enough (is there a backup plan to the Elemental?) to ever win anything, but the T2 win is back in Modern! (for a few PT rounds anyway)
EDIT: Kiln Fiend too. That makes sense. Tainted Strike would be sweet. Still never gonna play this deck.

Foreigning out SI, currently 33/75. The only thing better than a T1 kill is doing it with cards no one has ever heard of and/or can't read. If anyone has any of the usual pieces, PM me. I'm willing to buy/trade.

They also have Kiln Fiend, and Flamekin Harbinger which finds Elementals.

Agreed. Its just not consistent either. We just saw Brad eat it hard cause he never really drew any action after his one creature died. Same with Thompson. What are these pros thinking today? Just goes to show you that pros are humans too and that they can be wrong sometimes just like everyone else.
The SCGblue deck seems so bad if you expect a lot of jund.
Which is pretty much every large modern tournament ever... There is no such thing as a small amount of Jund. Only less jund than usual.
Everytime Jund eats it is a victory for good magic. There is nothing more boring and thoughtless than "pack all the best cards in color XYV into this deck, who cares about interesting synergy".
Conley got hit hard. If that were a grim he might have had more of a chance, but he can't hit creatures with Shaman.

That's why I was wondering if someone was going to suck it up and play the white life gain deck that has a favorable match up against jund. I guess no one was man enough?
Naya pod is also favored, but I haven't heard the reason why that deck fell out of favor after CFB did well with it at GP Columbus. I just heard it fell out of favor with no explanation.

Exactly my thoughts. Even before the stream started it was one of the easiest metas to predict.
Abrupt decays is gonna see play, thus pushing Delver down a little. Less delver makes pod even better. Jund maindecking Abrupt over any other piece of removal they play is also good for pod.
Naya Pod just makse so many of Junds plays ackward. "Inqisition you? Oh... so I guess I can't hit half the relevent cards in your hand, not to mention the most relevant, pod is off limits..." Same deal with abrupt decay. It can't hit Pod, or any piece of the kiki combo.
I can't tell you how many times I have poded Finks into Resto hitting finks, repeat, and then just watched the Jund player across the table die a little on the inside when they realized almost nothing they can do could match that.
Naya Pod is probably in the best position it will ever be in. Now is its time to shine.
Do we know how many people are in this tourny - ie how diverse the meta actually might be?
Is it like the world cup with 20 people or is it a 100+ person tournament? I'm not sure on the strucutre of these things. Would love to see all the 3-1 deck lists after day 1.

And even more so that the messenger's decks are playing more IoKs over thought seizes, since they take so much damage from their mana base trying to cast messenger on turn 3. Though I think most people will have all 8 cards in their 75.

I would like to know that too but...
We don't need to see any numbers to know that Jund running Abrupt is going to make a large section of the meta. Jund is always a very common deck at any competative meta.

Even better for Pod is the fact that so many Jund player have switched over to playing Shaman over Grim. Its almost like Jund players want to lose to Pod, like they are actively trying to find more ways to NOT interact with the deck. I mean, at least with Grim you can interact with the Pod chain.

No info on the meta yet, they probably won't release that till all 5 modern rounds are over.
there are 383 people, 4-4 record or better makes day 2.
I'll update the OP with frequently asked questions

383? That's great, that means there will be a sufficiently diverse meta and we'll see if there are any surprises or whether the meta has been defined. We'll also see Valakut's impact. Awesome. I'm excited to see what rises to the top.

Uh, did many jund deck's play lavamancer? I just checked some decklists that won dailies, it's not there. Though Cedric Phillips has forked bolt in his sideboard. Lavamancer is not good with tarmogoyf so jund can't really play it.
It'll be interesting to see CFB's deck and what they cut out to put in the shamans. I believe i saw liliana's in PV's sideboard, so maybe that's what got cut?
Deathrite shaman does crush a pod deck, melira pod...

Shaman lets you hit a T2 Liliana, which is pretty insane.

Melira Pod fell our of favor so that a moot point right now, but no it doesn't. In what way does it crush it?
And shaman shrinks goyf too. Maybe not as qiucly but it still does.
EDIT: To answer your first question there were quite a few that played Grim. Not all though, in that you are correct and probably not a majority. But since Shaman fits the 1 drop slot it seems only logical to draw comparisons because they compete for the same space.
I hope we see a UW deck. I like that deck in modern.
Agreed, that is the single most interesting deck in modern right now. It seems like the formats best kept secret. No one really mentions it, but its deadly serious and definitly tier1 in terms of powerlevel.
