Finkel wins with Storm. Much more entertaining to watch than Jund v. anything. Surprising to see Storm do well considering how little I've seen of it lately.

Thats probably why its been so sucessful. Its exactly like Dredge in that when people don't plan for it they get screwed by it.
But that match was obviosly a case of the other player not pulling enough agression despite having answers for days. Thats the funny thing about storm. It can win on turn 4, but if you don't put preassure on the storm player they can just wait forever and STILL win despite it being a deck that wants to win as fast as possible.

It's not like the guy sideboarded poorly for it too. He Relic'd Finkel's yard away, had another in hand, and still lost, so it wasn't like he was totally open to graveyard strategies. Finkel was definitely lucky to win though. Another Bolt/creature drawn any of the 6 turns he was getting bashed by SCM would have beat him.
Karsten's singleton red deck is awesome! did not think I'd ever see Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep in a Modern PT.

Well the 5 rounds of Modern are done. I'll post some links up in the first post when wotc gives all the deck archtypes and whatnot.
3 rounds of RTR draft are left. Probably going to check out since watching the draft portion is not as fun unless you're right with the guy picking cards and watching him build the deck.
Tomorrow is 3 more rounds of RTR draft followed by 5 rounds of Modern.

The only time I think Shinka could be usable is with giving Zo-Zu first strike. I guess.
Other than that, Karsten's deck is the epitome of "this concept is so insane it just might work". As fan of RDW, I am really excited to see something like this. If anything, it shows that red's card pool is incredibly deep in Modern.
The guy who has balls of steel is the guy who went 8-0 day one with eggs, granted 3 of his wins were draft.
He knew he was going to play against jund (he said so on the steam) which has artifact hate, graveyard hate and discard. I don't understand how he thought that was a good deck to play.
At least the singleton burn deck has people talking, and if he found out ahead of time people were playing messengers over finks, it's a pretty good meta game call to play burn.
This just means one of two things:
1) The Eggs vs Jund matchup is not as bad for the Eggs player as you think it is.
2) The Eggs player is a luck sack who won 1 token round against Jund, and the rest of his 4 rounds were bye matchups.
Personally, I believe it's 1). When you put yourself in the combo player's shoes, hate seems insurmountable, but the truth is that your opponent needs both pressure and disruption to beat you - if he only has pressure you can race him, and if he only has disruption then you just keep sculpting your hand and board.
I don't like the Highlander burn deck. I would have expected a Pro player to build his deck with winning in mind, and not take into account arbitrary considerations like not playing more than 1 copy of each non-basic land card.
Karsten is 1) in the hall of fame and b) located close enough to Seattle that the cost of running a fun deck isn't higher than the fun he gets out of it.

I just said 3 of his wins were from draft. I'm not sure of the amount of people playing messenger over finks, but i know CFB is on messenger and so is the stream team (2 people). So quite a few jund decks are more suited to race combo decks. So maybe he got lucky and didn't face the messenger decks? Also jund has jund charm to remove the graveyard. I know cedric has 4 leyline of the void because he was scared of dredgevine.
I can't think of any product for Modern that wouldn't be insanely overpriced. Not that I would be unhappy with one. FTV: Goyf n' friends would be pretty appealing at most any price point. (always MSRP at my LGS)

According to this, Jund is the most popular deck, even in Day 2, while Affinity, UW Control/UW Restoration Tempo/whatever, "Kiki-Jiki Combo" (since "Splinter Twin" is further down and Twin Pod/Naya Pod/No Black Pod is nowhere to be seen, I'm praying this means Twin Pod), and UG(r) Scapeshift ("Scapeshift" is further down) round out the top 5. Filling in the Top 10 are UR Storm, UWR Delver, Infect, "Scapeshift", and RG Artifact Tron/Karn Tron.
Somehow, only 2 RUG Tempo Thresh decks show up--Eternal Command is more popular than it, at 5 players.
Some form of Dredgevine takes up 8 decks total, with 3 of them being Jund-coloured.
"Second Breakfast" is probably mislabelled at 8 decks and likely should be 4 decks.
4 people were on Nivmagus Combo (that's a lot). Only 4 people were on Soul Sisters, only 4 people were on RDW, and only 4 people were on BW Tokens in comparison. Somehow, 3 of the Nivmagus pilots made Day 2 (but, then again, somehow 9 out of 11 Infect pilots made Day 2).
For the Top 5 Day 1 vs. Day 2 stats, Jund dropped, Affinity rose, UW Resto/Control/whatever slightly dropped, "Kiki-Jiki Combo" rose, and UG(r) Scapeshift rose. Encouraging for Scapeshift players and discouraging for Jund!

He's playing Charge Across the Araba.
He had martyr of sands because it lets him race jund and delver. And it's good with squadron hawk.
Main deck Burrenton Forge-Tender to not lose to pyroclasm/jund charm.

There's also the possibility that the Eggs player had Leyline of Sanctity in his SB against discard and Jund Charm.
