They said that this set is 100% reprint and will be Modern legal. Now the question is would they reprint cards that has never been in Modern to make them Modern legal?
I am leaving this thread to discuss Modern Masters Ed. While this set is obviously going to impact prices, please refrain from ban list discussion and keep it civil. t_c

No, they specifically stated the time-period they are printing from, 8th to shards, I believe.

Tantarus: It didn't make the gaka greifer level, so it should be fine
It's going to be a limited print run, so while they're finally throwing this format a bone, it's a small one that probably won't put much of a dent in the prices if cards that get reprinted because the reprints will actually be rarer than the originals.
I dont know how much of an impact these packs will have on prices of cards like Bob or Goyf, and honestly, i dont really care either way. I own playsets of bobs and goyfs and will hold onto them no matter what happens to the prices, so to me thats not at all important. What is important is that this will, in all likelyhood, actually make modern a format people want to play, and for that i am very happy
Even if it doesn't bring down the prices, either way it's win win because it expands the player base.
people will want to draft them, people will want the staples. It's all modern legal.
I would go ahead and invest in your Zen Fetches if you haven't already.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Why are so any people under the assumption that there will be playable cards throughout these packs? Wizards still likes to cram their product with unplayable crap. Look at the last couple FTVs, which are supposed to represent the best of the best? Legends and Lands had dead weight in there. It's just what they do.
The best we should hope for is that the crap is at least cute, potentially usable crap. Living Death is a deck that sees play - are we going to see those mana-intensive cyclers here? That's what I'm thinking.
Seeing that I just got tarmogoyfs, I hope the second market value of them won't drop below $50...and it probably won't given they're still in really high demand and this set isn't getting printed like a normal set would. It's sort of like a from the vault set except on a larger scale.
Since they said it's draftable, and will be similar to cube drafting, I think that means it'll be well worth the $7 bucks a pack. I mean seriously, if a regular pack contains something along the lines of a lightning bolt, a path to exile, and maybe one or two other playables in modern, I'd be perfectly happy with paying seven bucks for what I know is mostly going to be somewhat playable. Of course, I'd imagine that not 100% of the cards in the set are going to playable, but the majority of them probably will be which will probably worth the price.

Sell them now while theyre hot, and buy low. If you are really trying to make money off a hasbro card game. This isnt real estate. I would expect the new goyf to settle around $30. Thats were geist is at mythic, and theres enough of him to go around.
Kira is played in Merfolk. At least in Legacy, I'm not sure about Modern.
Besides, Modern Masters is a draftable set, so I won't expect every card in there to be Constructed playable. There's got to be some Limited fodder like Grizzly Bears or Goblin Piker in it (although it would be great if the set had "strictly better" Limited fodder like Nest Invader and Tin Street Hooligan.)
"Modern boosters" would be super sweet and a fun limited format to boot, like Masters edition online! Just fill em with hits from Mirrodin to Alara, even staggered across a couple editions so they can pad it out. They could even re-introduce older cards to expand the card pool! This could then be an anual product moving down the ages as new sets become old. These would be a huge hit with commander players as well. I can think of no reason why this is not a great idea, win win! $$$
This will be especially sweet for modo as they cant limit the run, I really hope filter lands are in there.
Whether or not it drops prices of staples at all is entirely dependent on exactly how 'limited' the limited print run is.
For example, there are 24 packs per box, there are 15 mythics in the set (1 of which is Tarmogoyf), and on average 1 out of every 8 packs contains a mythic, then for each box there is a 20% chance of opening a Goyf. That leads us to:
# of Modern Master Goyfs = (0.2) * (# of boxes produced)
The Expected Value of a box worth of cards will likely change substantially based on the value of the rest of the cards in the set, of course. With Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Vendillion Clique, etc in the set I'm sure the EV will get there and Tarmogoyf's price will fall a bit. Maybe not down to $30 as some are hoping for, but then again, the price fall will largely depend on the size of the print run (and also the number of Tarmogoyf's currently in circulation from Futuresight, a number that also seems hard to find) and the value of the other cards in the set.
Modern Masters is awesome but I don't think this will have the huge impact on prices some think it will. At $7 a pack and a limited print run this isn't going to put Cliques and Goyfs in the bargain bin
You'll still have to shell out a fair amount of money for singles or packs, sorry.

In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Let's just hope they print enough of it to keep the cost of the new versions reasonable. If the new printings reach the same prices as the old there wouldn't be much of a point, as anyone unwilling/unable to get into modern for cost reasons finds himself right back in the same boat.

Whats in zendikar that isnt already readily accessable at reasonable prices?
With Wizards reprinting shocklands, that gives people more incentive to play Modern. So the demand/prices of fetches will go up in the near future.

Goyf will still fetch 75 without breaking a sweat.
the set is likely going to be full of playable cards.
your'e okay with paying 4 dollars for a pack and usually getting garbage
but 7 for a pack with mostly good cards is unreasonable?
don't understand the logic.

I don't know about Kira. Kira isn't played in modern from what I've seen. I can say that Elspeth 1.0 will probably be on the list tho.
