What about it being a "may" ability makes it worse?
Never said it was worse, said it was cool the interaction that if you have a BBelf in hand, (assuming it was the next turn) you can choose not to draw it and then just play BBE to cast it for free)
fireman avenger has to be playable. free Lightning Helixes is just the sort of thing that can be insane in this format.
i knew Boros Restoration was gonna get something good.
seems bad. Like a worse resto or BBE. The only deck that might want this is a midrangy zoo, but then bloodbraid elf exist.

"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
Well, at least battalion does seem kinda cool, so i expect that oen or 2 rare weenies will have a good battalion effect.
A pity, since free helixes looked sweet, but if a want a free helix, i´ll play isochron scepter, not that bad angel.
Firemane Avenger seems cool in some sort of Token.dec. Maybe WB tokens will splash red for her since her surviving a turn could lead to no less than a 6 proverbial points of power in a deck like that for a bargain price of 2WR. Hell its possible she could spawn a whole new WR (minor black splash just to flash back lingering souls) that utilizes tokens, lightning bolt, lightning helix and FMA. I wouldn't completely count her out because she dies to bolt or doesn't fit perfectly into already established decks.
Angel isnt playable. Well it is I guess, but I think there are better ways to go about it. Hero of bladehold seems to do what she does (end the game at the top of the curve) better. She costs the same, but in one color requirement. This angel acts as removal, but in red you have grim lavamacer that sorta does it better.
She WILL however be a house in standard. Which is cool. Because I like her.
But kiddos! Battalion! Oh yes. Thank you for boros to deliver. if there is even just one good card with it, Zoo can easily pull out a 3 creature attack. Midrange or aggro. WRB aggro seems pretty cool to abuse it too.

FMA cast Lightning Helix. LIGHTNING HELIX. FOR FREE. That's gotta be good!
Him costing 2WR is kinda an advantage in my eyes, you can splash him better - Jund should be proof that 4 color manabases aren't that much of a problem
Here's the thing. If you have zero or one other creatures, this is a vanilla 3/3 while Hero of Bladehold is swinging for 7 or more. If you have four or five tokens, this is pretty good, but Hero pretty much wins the game when it swings.
If you have exactly two other creatures, this is probably better than Hero, and with three they're about on par...but otherwise Hero is just going to be better.
A four-drop that doesn't do anything the turn it comes out is rarely what you're looking for in Modern; even Hero is hardly a format staple. Even restricting it to red and white, this competes with the likes of Hellrider, Hero of Oxid Ridge, Restoration Angel, and Elspeth, Knight-Errant which all do something right away. It's going to be quite hard to justify this over them.
I think it's good in Standard (gogo Lightning Mauler) but here? It's too slow most of the time, and worse than Hero of Bladehold even when slow is okay.

To be fair, red-white is creature-oriented aggression so Firemane Avenger are just fitting the flavor of its colors. Creatures like this seem to work well in decks designed for their abilities. I'll bet that none of the Battalion creatures will be good unless they're in a deck built to reliably have 3+ creatures swinging. And with the protection of white and burn of red, having a battlefield advantage shouldn't be that difficult.

We shouldn't forget there's Lingering Souls and Spectral Procession. There might be a BWR deck, depending on what Boros and Orzhov get this set.
I feel like she's extremely easy to enable. And giving her haste with Lightning Mauler (one or two wouldn't hurt) doesn't seem unreasonable for the result.
But I won't be surprised if even a one mana cheaper battalion creature out-classes her in every way. You guys' criticisms are definitely apt.
I think there will definitely be at least one good Battalion creature and while this is an almost example (build in haste and this woulda been rockin!), I think something for 2 or 3 mana is going to be the staple of boros decks, at the very least in Standard but quite potentially here.

Agreed. There's those cards, plus Krenko's Command and Thatcher Revolt to ensure that a red-white deck has enough attacking creatures to enable Battalion.

I have a feeling the Modern-playable Battalion creature will be a 2- or 3-drop. The 1-drop probably won't survive more than one combat (it probably dies to Deathrite Shaman, and that guy doesn't tend to attack), and 4+-drops are pretty clunky.

Bloodrush is gonna be sweeeet.
I'm like 90% sure Bloodrush is Channel a combat trick, not Landsarecool.ability.

competes for slots with Restoration Angel; I guess you could nix Baneslayer for her, but Baneslayer seems better at the top of the Curve, idk.

It's just a pity FMA dies to Bolt.
I'm interested in the 1- and 2-drops with Battalion though.
