Agreed. There's those cards, plus Krenko's Command and Thatcher Revolt to ensure that a red-white deck has enough attacking creatures to enable Battalion.
Hero of Bladehold is just plain better in a token deck -- you're going to be running anthems, and once you've got an anthem out Hero becomes better no matter how many creature you have. Plus token decks don't have problems winning when they've got a bunch of guys out, they have trouble winning after they get wrathed, and Hero is still good in that situation (especially since normal wraths leave your anthems unscathed).
I like this card, I really do, and I'd be happy if it were good, but Modern is already unfriendly to four-drops that don't do anything the turn they come out, and Hero is going to be better the vast majority of the time even when you can justify running one of those.
One being way better seems like a good enough reason to run it over the other...
I think people are really underestimating the difficulty of having two other guys to swing with. The card will be a Phantom Monster a non-trivial percentage of the time.

When you peer long enough through the depths, the depths peer also through you.
So what does everyone think of Treasury Thrull? Draining 1 life doesn't seem like much in 1v1, but having a deck full of Extort guys can build up, especially when you have life-draining spells and methods to stall the batlefield. And of course, such a power would shine in multiplayer. Also, the Thrull specifically has a great retrieval power, getting back artifacts, creatures, and enchantments alike.

I have a big hunch that multiple Extort abilities out means you get to pay (W/B) for each one. You can't pay (W/B) to activate all of them at once.
That's saying a bit much considering we've only seen one Extort card. For all we know, the rest of Gatecrash's Orzhov cards will allow a player to make a deck that can make the most of that ability. Perhaps one could make a deck designed to stall the board and drain your opponent's life total effectively. If not in Gatecrash limited, then in Modern. I've got a black-white life drain deck that works wonders. (well, it's mostly my brother's deck)

Not necessarily all in one turn. If you make a deck geared to slow down the board and drain your opponent's life total, this tactic can be drawn out over several turns.
Look at my text formatting. See the size? One is as low as it goes. The problem is on your side, not mine. Please continue being stupid.
And extort is the worst mechanic in the block. Probably both blocks. You'd have to be trying to make a mechanic worse than haunt to come up with this ****.
There is no hope for Orzhov at this point. It's been hamstrung by having one of the worst keyword abilities ever chained to its ankles.

To be fair, Extort looks like a decent mana sink late-game--at least, if you can find the spells (or be willing to cast targeted discard when your opponent is Hellbent).
Unfortunately, since it's a "when cast" trigger, it makes your spells pretty big soft counterspell bait.
You also can't seriously cast your spells precisely on curve if you want the Extort benefits.
The only thing saving extort is maybe having it on a land.
Extort is laughable without critical mass, and neither standard, with its board wipes, nor modern's speed will allow that. Having it on anything other than creatures is just tempo loss.

Fair's fair; looks like it shows up smaller than normal in Chrome and IE. Probably a CSS-related Firefox issue then. The boldface is annoying nonetheless and I really question why you feel the need to use non-standard text size in either direction.
And, yeah, I guess extort could be good with Gravecrawler and Blood Artist. Problem is Verdict, Thragtusk, and Rest in Peace will wreck that deck pretty handily.

Detain sees how much play in constructed formats? And yet several very powerful cards have the Azorius watermark on them. Just because the guild ability is lackluster doesn't mean there won't be any good Orzhov cards.
I don't understand the hostility towards Extort. It's 1 mana for a 2-life swing.
Looking at RDW(yes, I realize RDW isn't in Orzhov, but the point remains valid), 1 mana for 3 damage is good. 2 mana for 3 damage is usable. As is 3 mana for 4 damage. That's the burn curve.
So with an Extorter(or two) out, you can pay 2 mana for 4 damage(unheard of), on top of gaining a life(bonus on top? no way). Or 3 mana for 5 damage(I wish browbeat was a good card), while gaining 2 life.
Similar mechanics like this gave been used to great effect in decks like Vamps(See: Kalastria Highborn).
The point is, aggro decks are going to love this if it gets put on any decent small creatures(1/2 drops). As with the Boros mechanic it really just relies on what creatures this ends up being on. If they're bad, the mechanic won't save them, but if they're even decent, it will make them much much better.
Options are good. Mana sinks are great. Mechanic is more than usable.
sure, but that replaces your otherwise excellent one drop. and you're also wrong about "2 mana for 4 life(unheard of)" rdw does not care about life. It's straight up and might as well say 2 mana for 3.
Now I wasnt back during the zendikar block, but I am well aware of the rampant RW being played and less board sweepers, thus increasing its potency.
If RDW is needing a manasink, it's already lategame and shouldn't be happening regardless.
EDIT: Speaking modernly, black doesn't need this trash. Do you see MBC? There's a good reason for that. Black has DR shaman, which is more than enough.
White? 1 mana for 1 life in...... White???? That's hilarious.

If you were playing it, I mean. I wouldn't put her in Tokens. I'd play her in a Lingering Souls deck, but not necessarily a dedicated tokens strategy.

I'm really mad at WotC. Orzhov probably my favorite guild and it's by far the worst in the entire block. Extort is unforgivably terrible.

Oh, look, I can psychoanalyze people too.
Also:
Because clearly one card is enough to judge an entire guild. I think extort is boring too but come the **** on.
(Spoiler: I was not trying to be clever, I was trying to be factual.)

Yes, because the idea of Orzhov being dominant in Standard with a crappy keyword is so farfetched.
