Keep in mind it's all wild speculation that Fetches won't be reprinted soon, or even in the next set. It would be a pretty good move to include strong non-basic land destruction along with Fetches in an upcoming set so players have the option to play Fetch/Shock in standard but can be punished for doing so.
Well, you could definitely get away with it, but it still isn't optimal, especially if you ever get blood mooned. I'd say if your gonna get fetchlands for your deck, you might as well go the extra mile and get the right ones. No use getting off color fetch just to save a couple bucks. Besides, its well worth the investment.

It might be speculation, but it's hardly "wild" to believe they wouldn't want shocklands and fetchlands to be simultaneously legal in Standard. Not to mention the fact that Wizards of the Coast has repeatedly shown themselves to want land destruction to be weak, so the idea of them suddenly making it strong goes against what they've been doing for years and years.

Although I hope they reprint some strong non-basic land hate (not necessarily land destruction), I agree that fetch and shocks and the same format would cause standard to be extremely crazy.
I would absolutely advise against this. You may find 40$ steep, but do what you can in order to accumulate the fetchlands now. They will only increase in price by next season. Do not believe anyone who claims that they will lower in price, Ben Bleweiss has been reported to be buying out all the fetchlands from multiple stores. This means SCG is buying out the lands during Standard PTQ season.
Trade in parts of your collection to get the lands you need, get another part time job, stop going to the bar some weekends or find another method of collecting some funds.
this was key for me
i was building the mono black vampire build (nocturnus, nighthawk, etc)
but i decided to jump ship to Boros Landfall
i traded off money vampires as well as various other cards i wasnt using (day of judgement, w.e) to get 4x scalding, 4x mesa and 4x marsh flats.
if you have any sort of local store, i might try hanging around there
of course, i was trading while they were still in standard packs, so they were much more plentiful probably.
I don't think they'd make Modern mana bases anymore greedy. It would just make Shard decks as good as Wedge decks at answering Blood Moon.
I personally think the format, one day, will need Allied Fetches to be printed just because Enemy Fetches will be incredibly expensive.
(I would even like it if they reprinted both at the same time, similar to how Shocks are done)
They play very well with the M10/INN Check-lands, and i don't think they'd make Standard mana bases too strong (together).

Yes, but those all have a much lower threshold where they choke themselves out and lower the benefit that shocks/more fetch's will give you. *shrugs*
