Against Eggs? Weak hate at best. It costs 3 mana, when Negate/Stony Silence/Rest in Peace is just 2. Besides, UW control decks already have great matchups against Eggs. Render Silent is just overkill.
The advantage it has over other counters is that if Eggs tries to beat you with Silence or casting 2 Sunrises, this stops them for one turn. However, the Eggs player still gets to resolve at least 1 Sunrise, advancing their board.
Against UWR Control? That deck is so full of instants, a Silence effect is worthless against them. Remember, you can cast spells in response to Silence.
Unfortunately I don't think this card has much of an impact in Modern. 3 mana counterspells are pretty unimpressive.

What it does do vs Eggs is stops there Lotus Blooms from resolving
Example they have a Lotus bloom about to come out and cast silence in response to the suspend trigger, you Render Silent and have just 2-1d the Eggs player

I guess Render Silent punishes those Eggs players who don't Silence first and would rather hoard Twincast instead more harshly (hit the first egg you can or Reshape--if you hit a Sunrise, they're Twincasting in response, but at least they can't keep looping that turn).
Render Silent also isn't bad against a non-flashed back Think Twice (they can't flash it back that turn unless they counter Render Silent), although jamming in more threats is probably the better way to attack Wafo-Tapa Control.
Render Silent is not good enough for modern. There are better options to hate out eggs. There are better counterspells at 3 (counterflux) and 3 mana for a counterspell is very slow. When your opponent casts a Dark Confidant and a Liliana before your counterspell comes online, you will probably regret playing it (unless its Cryptic Command).
God I hope Melek, Izzet Paragon isnt real. on turn 4 if it hits you it has 6 different options... Seems too good for 3 mana. I mean least it doenst have hexproof, but still. Annoys me that blue gets that raw efficentness.

Agreed. In the decks that would want to play him he's good in almost every conceivable matchup. This might be a controversial opinion, but I think he's potentially better than Geist of Saint Traft. Thankfully, targeted removal hits him.
Well hes basically a better sword of fire and ice.... I really hope this isnt true... And I dont think it is, because it doesnt seem fantastic in edh, which they said these were aimed for.
I don't think the Melek card is real because its rules text looks too much like Times New Roman, but I'm not certain if it would be even as good as stuff like Boros Reckoner or Lyev Skyknight, let alone Vendilion Clique. (I'd be glad to be wrong, but until we get official confirmation, I can't afford to sink time into playtesting this possibly fake card.)
(This is from someone who tested Nightveil Specter in Junk and Blue Splash Jund. It's been pretty good if it gets going and I share at least 1/2 of the colours in common with the opposing deck, but I'm not sure whether being unblockable instead of dying to flashed-in Restoration Angel would compensate for dying to Electrolyze, Izzet Charm, and Pyroclasm.)
I love the design of Melek and that's why I -think- it could be real, because it's very well done. Still not sure though.
About the card itself, at first glance it seems really good, but not as good as Geist obviously becuase of the vulnerability to Bolt and other removal. If you untap with it it could be backbreaking, and I will definitely try it as a 1-of in my Geist of Saint Win deck for drawing potential and even more removal
If Melek is real, then that's good for the format imo. Powerful gold cards should force interesting dilemmas because they offer a very high power level at the cost of forcing deck builders to commit strongly to its colors, especially if they plan on using it in the early game...
What would the rumored version of Melek do to Modern? I could foresee it getting slotted into UWR tempo/midrange in a 3/3/2 split with Geist of St. Traft and V.Clique to avoid trapping copies in your hand with the Legendary rule.
Overall, Melek is much easier to kill though. It might have most of a Sword of Fire and Ice built in, but what really makes Swords good is the protections they grant that let you swing through blockers to activate the awesome combat damage triggers without dying to removal of those colors. Sword of Fire and Ice isn't currently seeing much play in Modern and Melek is worse in some ways and better in others. I think it'd see play in Modern, without a doubt, but its not going to be Snapcaster/Confidant/Goyf/DRS, etc levels of play.
I think Render Silent will see occasional play - maybe even main-deckable - when the metagame dictates it. Gut reaction to seeing it was "that would have made Storm pretty awkward if Song wasn't banned," but then I remembered that WotC operates 6-18 months ahead of what's actually released to the public and the unforseen ban on Song would not have been considered in the design phase. I'd put it in the realm of Counterflux - run it in the mainboard if the metagame dictates it, but mostly keep it in the 'on deck' stash or in the sideboard if you expect to run into certain decks.

to be fair, its pretty solid in Duel Commander so writing it off based on its Commander potential might be jumping the gun a bit
If Melek is confirmed, be ready to preorder, new Dark Confidant incoming. I've already playtested the card in a Splinter Twin shell and the deck is beyond amazing.
The card creates dilemmas for most decks in the format, especially with 4 maindecked spellskite and 3 Melek.
Bizarrely, I don't remember any discussion on Varolz in this thread before it was exposed as fake. How is the Melek image that much more believable (besides actually having the correct artist's name on it, an actual table as a background, and actual borders)?
...And the Melek image is exposed as fake when nal2 finds that the desk background is probably not an actual desk at all, but this image (as an aside, I'm not sure what sort of person would put several boring backgrounds on their Deviantart account, even ones they created).
Time to stop trusting images without proper backstories (e.g. "I received this in my Australian FNM package" or "I cracked this in an M13 pack").
Like Shmanka said, Melek is nuts with Spellskite and especially strong in decks where you need to kill many creatures on sight. I tested the card a little bit and were frightened what a potent Kiki Pod player can do with it. There is so much synergy in this deck like Chord of Calling at the end of the enemy turn, Eternal Wittness to get Melek back from the graveyard and Spellskite to save him. Furthermore they have tech to prevent an enemy Melek with Zealous Conscripts and Linvala and Chord of Calling into Phantasmal Image can also be painfull for an enemy playing Melek.
Plus I don't like the design of the card. Cards like that force the decks into R to get access to cheap removal and sweeper.
Worth noting: Split cards now are "fused" so you can cast both if you want. For rule noting, the effects happen left to right, and if your casting it from somewhere else and not your hand, you only get one half. Suck it snappy.
Ral is very very good. he can bolt twice before dieing, and seems awesome for any tempo deck that needs to tap down some mana, or big blockers. Plus who doesnt like coin flips?
Snazzy edit: Yep, beck looks gross. Elves is back.

I like the new Glimpse (Beck//Call) the may prevents decking and ETB trigger makes tokens better
I like Ral, save his ultimate in URW with Ajani Vengeant they make a potent team

Can anyone figure out a way to abuse Deputy of Acquittals? Flash and not mandatorily bouncing your own stuff is good, but I'm not sure Whitemane Lion v.2 can cut it in Modern...

Only thing coming to mind, and it's probably been thought of before, is zealous conscripts -> attack -> deputy of acquittals. Either that or its just a lesser version of flicker
beck is pretty sweet. i wonder if this is their solution for modern: print fixed versions of banned cards? i hope not..
grapplingfarang brewed an OK version of UG Combo Elves not too long ago. It'll get turbocharged with Beck//Call. Current hunch from a little testing is that Beck is a little too close to Glimpse and will get banned from Modern.

Melek seems fun it's card advantage whenever it hits at least he will be the removal's target 1-1
Melek on the other hand could shake up some decklists.
