Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
The new 3WW Mythic Angel could be an interesting top end in Martyr Proc, it provides a nice pseudo-anthem, but it could just be win more as well
The new Angel would have been decent in Melira Pod if she worked with Murderous Redcap. As is, I don't think she'll get a home.
I've currently made room in all of my Pod decks for 1 Scavenging Ooze in the assumption that it is confirmed (I'll put the Chord of Calling back in if it's refuted). From my testing, it's been a house against aggro and control, and it still has some value against combo (Scapeshift runs sweepers, Exarch Twin Flame Slashes stuff).
she still goes infinite with Kitchen Finks though, maybe playable in GW hatebears?
And notably, infinite +1/+1 counters for all of your non-Finks creatures. Including herself, an evasive creature. She definitely deserves consideration somewhere.

That's an interesting concept. Turn anything else huge. Melira and Viscera Seer get +1000/+1000 and swing.
I think she's too slow for proc.

Still pointing to dragons maze, but they should be working on that.

Scavenging Ooze will be format defining. Deathrite Shaman will still be the premier GY disruption due to its ability to mana accel. Ooze is an amazing answer to Goyf, hard to play around with 2-3 mana open, becomes a huge threat, and the life gain mitigates early aggression.
I don't believe decks like Gifts, Loam, or all in aggro decks will be viable anymore. They were not the top decks to begin with, but these rogue strategies just lost all hope after Ooze is in Modern.
This will be Ooze's effect on the metagame: pushes away rogue strategies from being possible and hampering decks that rely heavily on Goyf & Snapcaster. When I say format defining, I mean Modern will remain the same as it currently is pushing all other possible decks away from casual tops.
The question for green decks now will be, what is the better 2 drop Goyf or Ooze?
Ooze isnt a format defineing card. It is very good, but hardly as good as you think. In legacy it was awesome for a while, but mostly due to maverick use of green sun Zenith. Zoo ran it too, but as goyf 5-7. And this was all before deathrite shaman became a card. Now the card hardly sees legacy play, because deathrite took its place. If you even look most maverick, the only deck it still sees play in, runs 2 ooze, 3 deathrite.
My point is, it gets killed turn 2 by bolt. turn 3, it still gets killed by bolt. turn 4 it can be a 4/4 that survives bolt, saying theres creatures in the yard for it to eat and you like paying GGG1 for a 4/4. Its not nearly as good as people think he is due to his legacy play. Goyf will still be the beater of choice, as hes bigger earlier on and with less work. Deathrite will still be the GY md hate of choice because of his other options while also being able to splash him super easy (Ooze says to have to be primarily in green, not only a dash)
Now dont get me wrong, he is good, infact, I'll be adding him as a 2 of to my zoo deck at least. But in a world where everyone and their mom currently packs 4 lighting bolt, deathrites still better at oozes job, and GSZ is banned, he becomes harder to play much less warp the format.
I guess it's the end of Gifts+Unburial Rites? * lucashungaro is a sad panda now.
Dredgevine and Living End also aren't happy.
Also, Pod is getting a lot of good news, right? This makes the deck resilient to Pyroclasm (survives it and can start a chain for Redcap/Finks -> Ranger of Eos). I recently read someone arguing that Pod will only naturally get better with time, as more and more creatures are printed (of course), increasing its already awesome toolbox.

But if he does I'm glad I got a playset.
This is why Ooze will be format defining IMO. Decks will need to be able to either interact with Ooze or not be bothered by it. He takes decks like Living End, Sunrise, Gifts, Loam, Burn, and R/G Aggro out of the format. Decks that play Bolt could careless about it. The decks above don't play Bolt or would rather use it as burn. Ooze is a sufficient creature like Goyf, very little support needed to make him good, but he happens to disrupt the GY, gain life and get bigger which hurts these rogue decks.
No thats exactly not what I'm saying. I'm saying ooze did a lot in legacy before deathrite took his place. I cant think of a single deck in modern that would rather use him over deathrite, maybe budget goyf, but hes not where near as good either.
Pod will just use deathrite as they have. They may use it as a single chain. off and on.
Control wont use it.
Jund will use deathrites, and goyfs, not him
Zoo will use it as a 2 of, or not at all, if it needs some more "Beats" with added utlity
G/W hate bears will use it as a 1 of, ONLY if they also run fauna shaman, otherwise with out GSZ its not worth their time, just as goyf isnt.
Junk is the same as above, but with the added bonus of they use Deathrite so the need for him is even less.
RDW doesnt care, they use spells. Deathrite is just as effective.
Lifegain doesnt care.
Scapeshift doesnt care.
tron doesnt care
twin doesnt care
Rug Delver, maybe likes him, but still perfers tarmo
The only decks that want him (maybe), are zoo, g/w hate bears, junk. and again hes pretty meh.
The decks his lifegain hurts would be affinity, Burn, and Zoo. that being said, 2 of those 3 runs removal so meh? and Affinity would probably over load the board before he did anything anyways.
The only decks that care about his super grave kill is gifts, dregevine, storm, and living end. And all sans living end can kill him, or win through other means.
Scavanging ooze is a good card and a tool for people to use when deckbuilding green. Format warping, absolutely not.
Was a reprint of the Ooze necessary? Honest question.
I mean, there are already plenty of graveyard hate... there is Deathrite Shaman as well.

Common sense is the most fairly distributed thing in the world, for each one thinks he is so well-endowed with it that even those who are hardest to satisfy in all other matters are not in the habit of desiring more of it than they already have. - René Descartes
Do you guys think that the Commander version of ooze will lose a lot of value? I picked up 2 when I heard there was a reprint and there was speculation that it was gonna be printed at mythic. I don't realize it was gonna be a promo.

I would guess yes.

Current Decks:
Modern
Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Legacy
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
The Angel is certainly not the best way to go infinite with Kitchen Finks + a sac outlet, but that doesn't mean it has no potential; in particular, it goes infinite with Spike Feeder without needing a third card. And keep in mind that, in addition to your infinite life you get infinite damage as well if you can force a creature through. I think this has a real chance of being an actual thing in Modern.
The question is whether it's just worse than Kiki-Jiki since that's also a two-card combo involving a five-drop, and the fact that you want to have a bunch of dudes means you're probably playing a similar build to the current Kiki Pod decks. The upsides are more colour flexibility and the fact that you're slightly harder to hate out; the downside are your combo pieces aren't as good on their own and you don't get to play tricks with Deceiver Exarch and Zealous Conscripts untapping Pod.

Probably not che, but they're introducing it to Modern and, while it's impact may not be huge, a good card is always welcomed in. Maybe they'll unban GGT since there's so much GY hate right now.
Scavenging Ooze is seeing a reprint in M14. Will this be a powerhouse in modern? What decks want it? Do you think it will shoot up in price if it's playable across all formats?
I've not seen that this is confirmed seeing print in m14. Would you mind linking to the confirmation? I didn't see anything credible last time I checked the rumor mill post about it.

Kiki pod could potentially run Scavenging Ooze over Deathrite Shaman. Ooze's CMC is more desireable since it can pod into both three drops and four drops and is able to set up a next turn combo win. Also, Ooze is much better in Pod's midrange game (when combo is impossible).
Yeah, Ooze is great in Pod as a chain end. It's very hard to think of a match-up where Ooze both stays small and can't yard hate, which is good for it (Exarch Twin probably comes closest, but it still runs red spot removal).
I suspect Ooze will hurt Melira Pod significantly more than it helps it (Linvala and Shriekmaw are your most viable ways to neuter it, but you need them fast or you die to a 5/5 Ooze), but it turbo-charges Melira Pod's aggro plan against combo through the roof, just like Voice of Resurgence.
