Right. Garruk 4.0 fits no existing decks, tron could have used him, but alas, green creature clause. Itd have to be a new deck that needed his abilities.
On the flip side... Chandra, Pyromancer is the name of the promiced "actually good red pw". Hopefully she adds up (BOLT EVERY TURN!)
Heck even +1 Shock would be good.
For those of you who read the "cardboard Crack" comics..

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I know they took it back from Red, but I would adore
+1: Faithless Looting
Perhaps-
-2: Add RRR to your mana base. Take 3 damage.
They'd never do that for Chandra. She's a pyromancer. Look at the abilities from all of the past Chandras. All of them involve either direct damage or instants and sorceries. Same goes for all of the cards that have Chandra in their names. What I'm hoping for is..
Chandra, Pyromancer 2RR
Planeswalker-Chandra
+1 Chandra, Pyromancer deals 2 damage divided as you choose among up to two target creatures or players
-2 The next time a spell or ability you control would deal damage to an opponent, prevent that damage. Put a 3/1 red elemental token with haste onto the battlefield for each 1 damage prevented this way.
-8 You get an emblem that says "If a red source you control would deal damage, it deals twice that damage instead"
5

Of course they would not do it, it is probably way broken, but it is the kind of thing that Modern needs from a R planeswalker. If they just slap on some conservative burn then who cares?

what you suggested is hardly broken. its actually pretty bad. a 3 or 4 cmc with a +1 forked bolt is much more broken.

I speak in sarcasm because calling people ******* ******** is not allowed.
So Fiendslayer Paladin seems pretty solid. Do lifelink and being bolt-proof make him playable over Mirran Crusader which sees little play now despite good protections and double strike?
So Fiendslayer Paladin seems pretty solid. Do lifelink and being bolt-proof make him playable over Mirran Crusader which sees little play now despite good protections and double strike?
That guy is a serious truck. Humans might become playable with this guy alone. And Knights will love him to death.

Lifelink
Fiendslayer Paladin can't be the target of black or red spells your opponents control.

At least Pyroclasm still hits him, but boy is that guy awesome.
To be honest, I am much more excited by the new blue Sliver. I'd have to take a look at the Slivers now available in Modern, but this tribe is looking increasingly viable. This guy alone is really pushing the aggro envelope:
Galerider SliverU
Creature - Sliver
Sliver creatures you control have flying
1/1
Yep that's right. 1 mana for evasion on your entire horde. Couple that with the redundant lord effects of Predatory Sliver in M14 and Sinew Sliver of Planar Chaos, that deck is looking really awesome.
So Fiendslayer Paladin seems pretty solid. Do lifelink and being bolt-proof make him playable over Mirran Crusader which sees little play now despite good protections and double strike?
I'm personally doubtful about Fiendslayer Paladin's viability. Some of the perks of Mirran Crusader are that it has double strike (so it's pretty decent against combo) and it roughs up Melira Pod (especially with an Exalted boost or two). I don't think lifelink on a 2/2 and protection from Bolt/Helix/Electrolyze/not Ajani Vengeant will compensate.
Banisher Priest, the 2/2 nerfed-trigger Fiend Hunter, looks decent in more offensive decks but can't deal with Elesh Norn like the 1/3 Fiend Hunter can.
Xathrid Necromancer actually looks promising (at least in Humans tribal). Assuming its triggers are similar to Blood Artist's (can't see why not), they have to boot this 3-cmc black 2/2 before they board wipe or you get your entire army back as 2/2 (tapped) Zombies. And against Jund, all your guys get sacced, zapped, and squashed twice.
Galerider Sliver, of course, looks awesome in Slivers. If Modern Slivers will become viable, it'll probably be Bant because of this guy, Predatory Sliver, and Sinew Sliver.

Meh. I think I would take Paladin en-Vec over that any day. Lifelink is nice and all, but full protection trumps it I think.
I really like Xathrid Necromancer. Seems like a solid card with a lot of syngergistic applications. It may find a home as a singleton in pod decks as well.
So are you guys still against Savage Summoning? I can't be the only person that see Modern applications of this card, what with all the Blue running around the format these days.
That's what I thought. I figured it'd still work because if the creature leaves the battlefield before the exile resolves, then "until Priest leaves the battlefield" can never be fulfilled. Because there's no Priest to leave the battlefield anymore.
Any creature based strategy that has access to green mana? This card would give GW hate bear type decks a fighting chance against American Tempo. It's never a dead card. Worst case scenario is a marginal blouse.
I think Young Pyromancer is good enough in Storm, that you can potentially, and actually replace something like Pyromancer's Ascension.
For example, tinkering with Finkel's list taking away the 4 Ascensions, 1 Increasing Vengeance, and 1 Peer Through Depths and replacing them with 4 Young Pyromancers and 2 Goblin Bushwackers gives the deck a different feel, but one I've been comfortable with. While the con is that sweepers become a problem, they are easily played around since your opponent absolutely has to get rid of just one YP. You're gonna be playing your draw spells anyway, so losing Pyromancer and some tokens means little.
Plus, taking out Ascension means you're less immune to graveyard hate...which many decks already maindeck with Deathrite. In addition to the fact that Ascension can be clunky on its own...whereas there's nothing clunky about YP. He comes down turn 2, and can grizzly bear his way to victory...or you can ritual into him and get immediate impact.
Young Pyromancer is the goods. And I don't even feel bold in saying he'll see tournament play. I don't think tempo is necessarily the place (especially in RUG Delver, which is just a bad deck anyway, much as it pains me to say it), but I do think tempo decks will build around him, if they do (Grixis being the likely candidate).

So are you guys still against Savage Summoning? I can't be the only person that see Modern applications of this card, what with all the Blue running around the format these days.
I see it as a niche sideboard card. Cavern of Souls is easier to fit in to a deck, and while the flash is nice and so is the +1, I am not sure it is enough to merit taking other things out of a deck or sideboard. I think I am not going to take a firm position yet.
So are you guys still against Savage Summoning? I can't be the only person that see Modern applications of this card, what with all the Blue running around the format these days.
The only Modern deck I can see Savage Summoning seeing play in is dented42ford's Dredge Ooze Combo deck, since it wins if it sticks a Necrotic Ooze with specific guys in the graveyard (and it wins in response to removal, graveyard hate that's popped after Ooze resolves, lethal Bolts to the head after Ooze resolves, etc.). Thus, Savage Summoning acts like an uncounterable Silence. Even then, it's a sideboard-only slot--I'd rather consume flex slots trying to kill Scavenging Ooze (as those cards also kill other creatures, and in Drown in Filth's case, self-mill).
Otherwise, it gives creatures Flash and pumps them a bit against decks without counterspells (such as Jund, Affinity, Zoo, and Bogles) at the cost of a card. And when you run a real risk of your Savage Summoning'd Bob getting killed by Bolt or Terminate anyway, that card is pretty costly. Not many creatures in Modern can dodge Bolt if they're Savage Summoning'd, and they're most commonly found in Zoo, which will start losing games against combo making its guys more expensive with Savage Summoning.
Seems good in a Loam Pox shell and Dredgevine, but is Fecundity just better in those decks is the question?
Some people will look at this card and say "Meh, bad Fecundity variant". There's some truth to that, especially from a combo perspective. But they key with this card is not that it's a bad Fecundity. It's that it's another playset of Fecundity in a deck that already wants to abuse the card. The added redundancy might make a huge difference for decks like Blasting Bridges and Dredgevine; Bridges especially is looking very attractive with this card added as a new engine.

My thoughts as well, was jam this with Bloodghasts and Gravecrawlers, whether that also incorporates Bridge From Below or it incorporates Vengevine is unknown
It does make a Standard deck like Aristocrats seem more plausible to port over in Modern, since that deck seems like the quickest deck that you can build a good shell around with Dark Prophecy
A thing to note is that it is a one sided Fecundity, which can be quite relevant especially vs decks like Affinity and Pod
