So i am new to modern and have been enjoying it immensely so far. I wanted to share a new personal deck building project of mine i started today to help better familiarize myself with the cards in the format. I call it project spectrum.
GOAL: attempt to find the most viable decks for each archetype and color combination without overlapping decks. IE one deck should not be virtually the same as another deck just with cards in a new color added in. W Soul Sisters -> WB Soul Sisters
7/21/2013 - Researching Mono Black Vampire Aggro.
7/21/2013 - Researching 5 color Ally aggro.
7/21/2013 - Reseraching 5 color Sliver Midrange.
7/21/2013 - Building Mono Black Obliterator Midrange.
7/21/2013 - Formatted list and started adding some of the established/proven decks in their appropriate slots.
7/23/2013 - Added links to discussion threads.
7/27/2013 - Added more decks and links.
I like the idea, as it allows brewing new decks and gives a good insight on the format, but how can you cover, for example, U control and UB control? Isn't UB control "virtually the same deck [as U control] just with cards in a new color added in"? :\

I don't think it is as big a problem as it might initially seem as their will be fundamental difference that will make the decks distinct enough. for example UB Control can run teachings which will enable tool boxing, and flash creatures, etc. i think the issue will become more apparent when you get into 3, 4, & 5 color.
For BUG and Jund Combo, Classic Dredgevine and Jundvine respectively work.

Seems like an awesome idea! How do you treat splashes? Like, monoblue control with red splash for 2-3 cards?
i dont consider splashes. what is important is the foundation of the deck. if a color in a deck is interchangeable with another then it is a personal preference/style thing.
Cheerios is WUBRG Combo (Paladin, Retract, Spoils, Grapeshot, Noxious)
Breakfast at Urza's has a mono W foundation of Open the Vaults and Faith's Reward.
and there is Naya Zoo which plays differently than boros and GR Zoo
Affinity should be in this list somewhere, it most commonly plays UR but can really do any color combo.
Also Cheerios doesnt heavily use Green, in fact not all versions run noxious revival as it is not a necessary card for the deck. its really is more WURB

Decks (All Budget)
Modern
WSoul SistersW
RGShamansRG
Ajani Jund is a GWRB midrange deck.
Breakfast at Urza's has a mono W foundation of Open the Vaults and Faith's Reward.
Gruul Zoo is a RG aggro deck, and 4cc Gifts is a GWUB control deck.
ill be turning deck names into links to their discussion threads at some point soon.
for slots that have no decks i will be trying to come up with ones for myself.
Also i have been adding and linking many decks. please double check me to make sure i am not incorrectly classifying decks.
Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
I think Infect would be a superior GU deck.
Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
so for mono white Martyr Proc, or Death and Taxes should probably be in over mono white control, they perform better
for GRB or GWRB Combo you have Living End
RB combo or aggros (probably same classification as infect) you have Elemental Combo
URB combo is basically Reanimator
UWB Mid range Esper Caw Blade
Scapeshift is RUG combo
Domain Zoo is 5C aggro
and there is Naya Zoo which plays differently than boros and GR Zoo
Affinity should be in this list somewhere, it most commonly plays UR but can really do any color combo.
