One interesting thing about this GP that has not yet been mentioned (or at least, has gone undermentioned): Attendance. This was a huge event with 1461 players, a definite high point for Modern events. At first, I thought it was because a lot of Canadians came down to join. But according to the GP Detroit page, only 185 were in attendance. 1263 were Americans. Huge turnout that was unexpected by me, the community, Wizards, and the organizers. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I would say location had a lot to do with it. Draw the east coast players along with the mid-west players. Add in being close to Canada.
So I looked at the MTGO dailies for yesterday, which is after the gp and it still looks fairly diverse...
Ari Lax wrote a good reasoning for lots of GBx in top 16 - bigger than usual amount of Twin knocked out most Tron decks, which in turn led to good GBx showing.
Ah, the perils of being lenient. How does the phrase go? "This is why we can't have nice things"?

Woah! Careful, or you'll have us thinking Modern is a popular, well-liked format!
Ari Lax in its most recent premium SCG article explained Jund success at GP Detroit because of a large number of Twin decks making day 2 that preyed upon Tron decks that could have kept Jund/BG Rock in check.
That's a pretty interesting theory.
It is certainly true that there were a lot of Twin decks running around at the higher tables. This is one of those reasons why we need more than one tournament to determine whether there's a real problem. Remember that Jund really hasn't been much of a presence at all in the last several GP's, and then here it is, all at once.
Another thing that will have to be determined is how much of this is because of Scavenging Ooze, given that decks that play it suddenly did so much better in the first GP after its printing than they had been doing before. GB Rock probably doesn't exist as a deck without it, and there were 14 copies of it in the top 8, spread among five decks. I would initially think that it can't be coincidence that its printing in a Modern-legal set leads to decks that use it doing incredibly well, but again, it's unreliable to base that off one tournament.
GB got ooze, which shored up the pod match up nicely. and sticking to GB, they can afford to play more discard, which helps with the UWR, tron, and combo match ups.

I speak in sarcasm because calling people ******* ******** is not allowed.
so, wheres my beloved u/w/r in all of this? is the deck falling out of favor? or should i go sleeve up my confidants, goyfs, lilianas, and oozes.
Idk, I'm feeling the same way, although the UWR I play is more midrange, and I don't think that it's seen any kind of top-whatever in a long time. I hope it's not on the way out though. Geist of Saint Traft needs a home or else I'm going to lose so much money on him

I think you should play what you like to play rather than change decks from this one set of results. Neither of those decks are going to be very far from the top for the time being

Play domain zoo. I can't wait to play GoST in that build.

I actually have a lot of the pieces for domain zoo. It's more of a 5cc good stuff deck than traditional zoo, now that I think about it, but I need 3 more Noble Hierarchs to finish it off. Ideally I'd have goyfs too but lol @ those prices, so KoTR gets the spot instead. It's funny though, to build it, I have to take pieces from UWR and Melira Pod so I can't have all 3 decks physically built at once hahah.

This. You will often do better with a deck that you are familiar with. You'll probably also just enjoy yourself more.

Sadly, the dominance of Jund did not result in every MTGO player receiving a free set of Goyfs and Bobs.
Legacy: UBRG Czech Pile, WWW Death & Taxes, many other things
Modern: UBR Grixis, RWG Burn, UR UR Storm, BBB 8 Rack, whatever other control deck I can force
Multiplayer EDH: RR Norin the Wary, UU Barrin, Master Wizard, UB Wrexial, the Risen Deep, GR Borborygmos, Enraged
As it should be. If you wish to compete, its going to cost some money to do so.
I think his point was that MTGO dailies do not represent much in the way of a truly competitive meta, much to your point and somehow contrary.

The GP itself was diverse.
Out of 15 rounds I played against Melira Pod 3 times and BG Twice.
Every other round was a different deck. That means I played against 12 different decks in a single tournament.
Thanks to Heroes of the Plane Studios for the amazing sig.
