Anger of the Gods feels like it'll suffer the problem I have whenever I wanna try and slam Volcanic Fallout down, for some reason by the time I hit 3 mana and want to sweep I'm already dead. Dunno how people manage to survive with 'spout, but whatevs...
Agent of fates also seems pretty strong - there just needs to be a way to turn on heroic without resorting to playing terrible cards. With that said, due to the heroic clause being "cast" - you should still get value out of targeting the agent when your opponent sacs something.
Someone posted over in the other thread of Agent that Flame Jabbing it could be an option. It went from $1 to $2 just today so people are onto it.
Completely forgot about Darkblast. All very good points you've made.
Apart from not being able to swing in for the full 3 damage, along with the loss of jabbing again on their turn (given you've got a land to pitch) whoops sorcery, Darkblast it is! Ultimately it's going to depend on the type of deck you build to cater to the card.
He, the Agent, doesn't look like something you can just stick into any existing (popular) archetypes though. Having Deathtouch is very respectable to say the least.
Has anyone else noted how disgusting (-ly good) Gift of Immortality is on Geist of Saint Traft? Hell, you could slap it on a Snapcaster if you had to.
Without flash, haste, or 4 toughness, I just don't see it. Costing 3 for an easily removable creature with no immediate impact, and a mediocre effect even if it does stick...
Maybe it'll find a home somewhere, but it looks like a standard staple to me.
Yeah, its unfortunately not good enough. If both the power and toughness were variable, it could see play.
I dunno. In any deck that will play it, it's a must answer or else its an absurdly strong beater that will end games quickly. I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Thoughts on swan song when spell pierce already doesn't see much play at all?
Sorry if this has already been answered - you guys are hard to keep up with sometimes

I think spell pierce is still the better card in most decks
The problem with pierce is that there are a bunch of decks that run so many creatures, making it situational
I'd just like to say, for all the crap people gave this set about being a standard set and probably not going to contribute much to modern...we've gotten a LOT of tools that have at least the potential of seeing play.
Maybe no swiss army knives like DRS but...honestly...does anyone really want another DRS?
But yeah, Firespout just got outclassed hard...and that was a fairly popular card.
Since it is a replacement effect for dying, the creature never gets a chance to be destroyed and thus the totem armor shouldn't work correct?
The creature is dealt 3 damage and a replacement effect is made such that when the card checks to see if damage is lethal, instead of being destroyed it is exiled. This happens before totem armor even has a chance to do anything.

I agree but the 2 cards play differently.
Early game you definitely want Spell Pierce more. That 2/2 can be scary. However in the late game, Swan Song is a hard counter where Spell Pierce is often dead. Depending on the deck, the 2/2 matters less in late game.
That said, I don't think Swan Song will see much play.

Swan song is a super powerful counterspell - it unconditionally counters a lot of important spells for just 1 mana - but it is only situationally good.
If you can use it to protect a combo that will kill immediately - who cares if you're giving them a 2/2 flyer? Conversely, if it counters a combo that is going to kill you immediately, who cares if they get a 2/2 flier?
I'm going to be testing it out heavily in my Fish deck as a sideboard option against Living End/Scapeshift/Splinter Twin/etc. I also want to test it out and see how it does against G(r) Tron which is a pretty all or nothing deck. I would much rather they get a 2/2 flyer than their 3rd land, especially because they don't really do anything at all until they combo off, it's not like the 2/2 flyer is going to let them achieve critical mass for their army.
Swan song might also see some play in a deck that can reliably nuke the field shortly after using it. If you know a pyroclasm or fallout or something like that is happening next turn, the drawback is minimized pretty quickly.
Firespout also fits in easier in UGr Scapeshift Combo and RG Tron, although not hitting Mirran Crusader may be enough reason to switch for other decks.

Darn, I wish Triad of Fates didn't have to tap for its abilities...or didn't die to Bolt. Taking 2 turns to boot Scavenging Ooze or protect a Pod combo piece is painful, but it can't protect itself and it's a 4-drop that dies to Bolt? Booooo...
Firedrinker Satyr miiiiight rejuvenate Shamans (again), but otherwise, it's Jackal Pup with half-powered Firebreathing. Probably not good enough, or will it sneak into Zoo?
Pyroclasm deals only 2 damage to each creature. The 2 damage is such a dealbreaker that Gruul Zoo boards inVolcanic Fallout, which also deals 2 damage to each creature.

And what is Zoo going to cut for it? Goblin Guide? Loam Lion? Kird Ape? Steppe Lynx? Deathrite Shaman? There are many other better 1 drops than this card.

Yeah, Firedrinker Satyr is sort of third-rate for a one-drop, but Gruul Zoo plays all sorts of weird guys in its flex slots (Grim Lavamancer, Strangleroot Geist, Scavenging Ooze, Vexing Devil), and at least the Satyr is an efficient 1-drop that can pump itself late-game.
STILL, might be a good card.

Ok maybe I should hold back on that...

An that is why I pre ordered a playset!

If you have fliers and the opponent does not, you can just pay R for Firespout to kill their board and save yours.
So I think its still a good card, and not strictly worse than Anger
Pyroclasm is still indeed a card...

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
